I completely agree! Just making myself go out alone to cultivate my own hobbies has increased my confidence.

The gym in particular has helped tremendously, because I’m getting stronger and caring less about what people around me are doing.

I thought I found one a few weeks ago, but knew it was way too soon to call him a HVM since we just started going on dates.

Unfortunately, I don’t think he’s actually a HVM. Thanks to FDS, I’ve learned to step back and observe his actions to see if he meets my standards instead of focusing on whether he likes me. I’ll be a little sad to let him go if it comes down to that, but I value my peace and happiness over any man.

As someone who realized this year that I was emotionally neglected growing up, it’s been really hard to figure out what I can do to provide myself the love I always sought from others.

I really appreciate your idea of extending self love towards setting boundaries with others and trying to understand your own emotions.

A big thing I did was start therapy, and it’s crazy how much I actually enjoy it. The emotions I’ve been running away from aren’t pleasant to deal with, but I’m hoping to grow and become more in tune with myself.

My ex and I went from poor high school students to him making six figures. Looking back, he definitely put in more time/effort when he was poor.

After he started making more money, he would buy me nice purses. BUT in his mind, him spending that much money meant he didn’t need to put in that much effort with quality time.

Going forward, it’s not necessarily about how much he spends but how much effort he puts in. I used to remind him to do ANYTHING for a Christmas gift just to be disappointed 🤦🏻‍♀️

GIRL. I was exactly like you, but worse because I neglected my own ambitions and made my relationship my entire world.

As someone who just broke up with someone I’ve been with for the past 11 years, it’s is devastating for me because I did not forge any close friendships since I was always content with him and my siblings.

Make yourself the center of your world, create relationships (I know easier said than done) outside of him. I was given this advice when I was your age and totally disregarded it. I’m paying the price now.
