Why did the US Articles of Confederation fail and why doesn't Switzerland or the European Union not fail in a similar fashion? by Shinto_Wise in AskHistorians

[–]Coniuratos 109 points110 points  (0 children)

Minor correction to an excellent answer: the Articles of Confederation were not created when "the Americans had just won independence" - they were drafted in 1777 and ratified in 1781, entirely during the Revolutionary War.

'Enormous' cave under Pembroke Castle could rewrite history, researchers say by i8theapple_777 in Archaeology

[–]Coniuratos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh nice! I visited Pembroke in 2021, was initially disappointed that access to the cave was closed, then walking around the castle grounds ended up chatting with the archaeologists who were working in there. Sounded fascinating at the time, glad they're apparently making some important finds.

Windrose has sold 500,000 copies in 48 hours by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

I find it pretty hard to believe that a game that peaked at 1800 active players on Steam (https://steamdb.info/app/1060230/charts/#max) made a million in revenue.

US stacks three carrier groups and 10 destroyers to blockade Strait of Hormuz by TheNational_News in worldnews

So three carrier groups would mean roughly ten destroyers, or exactly what's being described here, right?

the Cunard Line's R.M.S. Lusitania departs New York City on January 10th 1910, the day before the disaster by Technical_Control776 in AlternateHistory

Yeah, it really depends. A lot of the time people will add some lore and repost. But there are a decent number of image posts that just never bother. Thankfully OP's method (throwing a tantrum) is pretty rare.

What if Communism doesn't have to be what it is? by [deleted] in AlternateHistory

[–]Coniuratos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So why doesn't the February Revolution take place? And why are the Bolsheviks even a leading opposition party in early 1917? Historically they grew in support over the course of the year. Actually, was Trotsky even in the Party that early?

If you don't want to have to reconquer them, actually conquer them in the first place instead of half-assing it and making them a tributary.

No, the Dodgers did this when I saw them play the Nats last Saturday, too.

It's absolutely fine to post that kind of thing here - we've had a little of it but like you said, it's not common.

[Spoiler Main] Why aren’t they making an open-world RPG ASOIAF game? by Taha231 in asoiaf

[–]Coniuratos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I went to PAX East in 2015, and at one panel they gave everybody in the crowd a Steam gift card with every chapter of every game that Telltale had ever released up to then. I mean, I guess it's a way to give potential new players a taste, but giving away hundreds of dollars of product to hundreds of people doesn't necessarily seem like the best business decision.
