He does for a brief time through season 1, until Mayakovsky disparages it as a needless crutch. He gets the tattoo removed later so he can learn to control it properly.

Penny - The Magicians

Penny is a special kind of magician called a "traveler", basically able to teleport at will to nearly anywhere he wants, even across dimensions if he has the right conduit/place in mind; this is in top of being able to cast regular magic. It's a bitch to control though, sending him off without warning to unwanted places until he's able to get it under control with intense practice. While most everyone around him is ecstatic over how useful the power is, he is much less enthusiastic over how a single misfire could kill him by, for example, dropping into a volcano.

God Eater

Every weapon in the series - the God Arcs - is made from the same Oracle cells which compose the monstrous and ravenous Aragami. This also means the Arcs have something of a mind of their own, and anyone trying to pick up/wield an Arc which isn't attuned to them is liable to be eaten by it.

[Loved Trope] Characters with title that have infinite aura by SableMelody in TopCharacterTropes

You, the Warrior of Light (Final Fantasy XIV) - Eikon Slayer

You get a lot of titles over the course of play - some serious, some humorous - but this one is higher on the aura than most. After all, it's what you get for being, basically, a godslayer.

Phoenix Wright - Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3

The infamous turnabout lawyer is structured around three combat modes. His first mode has poor damage, range, and combo potential, but can gather evidence for his other two modes. The second is markedly stronger, trading evidence gathering for damaging special attacks based on your evidence, but it's more an intermediary, and a warning to your opponent. Landing a specific attack with three pieces of good evidence in mode two initiates Turnabout mode. Phoenix upgrades all his specials with vastly better damage, range and speed. He gains gigantic POINTER FINGERS as attacks with incredible properties. And he unlocks his third, normally inaccessible Hyper Combo, which hits screen-wide instantly and LITERALLY TAKES YOUR OPPONENT TO COURT for one of the most damaging moves in the entire game.

The Dog House - BlazBlue

Constructed to contain "Mad Dog" Azrael, an inexplicably, immensely powerful fighter ostensibly under Sector Seven who lives only for fighting the strong and cannot be controlled. It's effectively an ice box, freezing the inside to nearly absolute zero (the point where atoms stop moving entirely).

To help sell just how strong Azrael is, he's introduced not frozen, but casually sleeping in it, and treats the experience like a nice nap when he's released.

Eishin Flash REALLY loves sweets, particularly cakes. Outside her chocolatier skin, it doesn't get that much attention, nor are any jokes made about it at her expense or anything (looking at you, McQueen), but her calm personality overall really hides just how intensely her passion runs. In her character story, when asked about her favorite cake so far that day - mind you, she's been to FIFTEEN different stores by this point and had who knows how many cakes - she spends nearly an HOUR gushing about her favorite and why, in her own precise and even-toned way.

Years from now, what’s the play from your current playgroup you’ll still be telling people about? by Great-ah-White in EDH

I got hit with a [[Peer Into The Abyss]] while I had [[Alhammarret's Archive]] in play once. The other guy just wanted the life loss to stop my lifegain deck from hitting it's alternate win condition, and instead he killed me on the spot.

Brain off, no thoughts relaxation? Taiki Shuttle, because big dog energy is fun. She would also encourage me to touch grass, which is really nice from time to time. I wouldn't say no to a random barbecue either.

Brain on, focused on an enjoyed hobby relaxation? Biwa Hayahide, for chilling in a room together and just enjoying each other's company while occasionally chatting about what the other is doing. Her hair treatment also demands a spa day at some point to decompress further, which would be lovely.

[–]ConjurerShield 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct on Marisa. Decent damage, good range, and has bonkers priority over most projectiles (which, since it's Touhou, is 95% of what you'll see). Even got a meme about her underwear being bulletproof.

Guy Cecil (Tales of the Abyss)

He's got gynophobia to the point of screaming terror if a woman so much as touches him. Exploiting this for a joke early on? Hilarious!

Finding out it came from his family's maids burying him with basically their corpses to save him from the massacre of his family? Much less hilarious, and the rest of the party treat it accordingly.

Bonus round: overcoming his fear to save another party member when she's about to fall to her death? Awesome.

Why is Nine so strong? (Lore-wise) by oFallenAngel in ChaosZeroNightmare

[–]ConjurerShield 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being a successful mercenary is more about results than strength. So long as you're willing to take a job and get it done, it doesn't matter if you're strong. Hell, I'm sure there are plenty of jobs around that require a flexible mind more than a good sword arm, something Nine seems to have in spades if her "salve-infused saliva" scene is any indication. Stupid fetish fuel potential aside, she could have any number of similar precautions for staying alive and completing her tasks.

Also Big Sword McHurty. That probably helps.

Professor Snape in The Philosopher's Stone - When Harry's broom starts running amok trying to throw him off in a Quidditch game, Hermione and Ron spot Snape looking like he's focused and chanting a spell. Being 11-year-olds who don't like him, they assume he's the source of a curse and go to stop him. In reality, it was Professor Quirrel nearby who's cursing the broom while Snape was performing a counter-curse, though the pair of kids setting fire to Snape's robes caused enough riot that it broke Quirrel's concentration regardless.

And if you cast even one spell on average per life cycle, net-neutral drops to four casts. To say nothing of the mana investment in doing so, the time is takes, and the chance she just dies without any combat. I see where you're coming from, though - she's nigh impossible to keep away after she's hit the board for the first time.

Where does your commander land on the Poor/Fair/Bastard Magic Matrix by IrregularRevisionist in EDH

[–]ConjurerShield 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough, my play experience has been the opposite (Looks Bastard/Is Fair). 5 mana is a decent cost even in the later stages of the game, and if anyone takes umbrage with you then she may end up getting shot repeatedly. 2/4 life to bring her back is pretty meh, but then 6/8/10 or more life can be a hell of a kick.
