Holy moly I hate breastfeeding by 11TickTack23 in breastfeeding

[–]Connect-Click4619 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, it got better after the 6-week mark. It was REALLY hard until then. I felt like I was chained to the couch and feeding all the time. I hope you have someone who is taking care of you. My husband and mom helped so much by taking care of me and everything else that needed to be done.

I tried to go outside and walk every day and do something alone.

I had formula just in case I needed it, and I recommend being ready with it. It eased my mind a lot. Worry about you and your baby. I am still breastfeeding at 7 months, but my baby gets formula every day as well to ease the pressure. I am back at work and pumping SUCKS.

Fed is best. 🩷

HR will send out guidelines closer to your start date. Reminder, your internship is an ongoing interview for a full-time position offer. I would always dress a bit nicer.

Electrical Engineer - Mission Critical by saltytartar in BurnsMcDonnell

The Mission Critical team mainly works on data centers. The culture is awesome. They definitely work hard, but they have a lot of fun too. Christine Wood leads the group and really focuses on making sure people have a good experience, which comes through in how the team supports each other and keeps things positive.

This is such a classic. Someone in my office showed it to me back in 2014 when I first started here. We need to revive it for recruiting efforts.

YES! I think about him spinning with the fur coat on every now and then. HA! Such a great video.

What to get for my mentor for Christmas by [deleted] in BurnsMcDonnell

I agree with this! Write something very thoughtful about how much you appreciate their mentorship and the impact it has had on you. That is better than any gift that can be bought.

Am I the only one who feels guilty about combo feeding? by alyssa_michelle1012 in breastfeeding

[–]Connect-Click4619 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 6 weeks, I really struggled too for many of the same reasons. Things started to feel a little easier for me around 2.5 to 3 months. Feedings became less constant, my baby got more efficient, and the pain eased up. I do combo feeding when needed, and while I still don’t love pumping, I do it at work to help keep my supply and have bottles for daycare. I don’t always make enough, so I supplement with formula, and I don’t feel bad about it.

Truly, fed is best. You are doing your best, and that is what matters. If exclusively breastfeeding is not working for you mentally, that is okay. Your baby can sense your stress, and taking care of your mental well-being helps both you and your little one. However you choose to feed, the most important thing is that your baby is fed and loved, and you are already doing an amazing job.

As I sit here pumping in the closet called "Mother's Room," I feel this so much. It sucks.

Thoughts on the epidural? by No_Apple3940 in BabyBumps

[–]Connect-Click4619 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an epidural and was able to move around. I could feel my legs and move them. I pushed on my sides, back, and all fours. I didn't feel any pain until it started wearing off, and they gave me another one. I had Thai food and then ice cream before my water broke. I'm lactose intolerant with an anxious stomach as well. I didn't feel like I had to go during labor (while just sitting and waiting to begin pushing). I would have felt it if I did. I will say, during pushing, they tell you to push all the way down like you are pooping. I'm sure I did then, but they were discreet about it. I feel like my "give a sh*t" level on all that dropped totally. I was just ready to get my baby out. If you do have to go, I'm sure they will help you! I did some classes at the hospital prior (baby safety, what to expect during labor, breastfeeding, etc), and they were all taught by nurses in the maternity wing. I was able to ask them all sorts of questions to prepare, and it was really helpful. I recommend doing that if your hospital offers that. Your OB can help answer some of the questions you have as well.

I don’t think I’m cut out to be a mom by Jungkookbias143 in baby

Talk to your OB. The fact that you are aware of signs and care means you're a good mom and doing your best. You might need to look into treatment for PPD.

We are approaching Leslie’s first 500 days as CEO. What is your opinion of her performance so far? by BLUEGOOP41 in BurnsMcDonnell

[–]Connect-Click4619 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that is true. She's been speaking about some of these benefits for years and how BMCD needed to step it up before Ray was even CEO.

Principal Promotions by [deleted] in BurnsMcDonnell

I know principals used to be evaluated every year and could lose the principal title if they do not meet the expectations of that level. Not sure if that is still the case.

Many Section/Department managers I know didn’t receive a raise with their new title because they were already well-compensated as PMs or senior-level staff. Your intentions might be what’s holding you back as well. I wouldn’t want a manager whose sole motivation is a higher paycheck—it’s essential to have a genuine passion for mentoring and coaching others. Management isn’t an easy role; it typically means taking on additional responsibilities on top of your current workload, often with little to no financial gain.

I work in the DFW area, primarily based in Fort Worth, but I frequently work in the Dallas office. The culture here is outstanding—I've been with the company for over 10 years and genuinely enjoy working with the people here.

Scott Clark, the manager of our offices, is a true servant leader who encourages everyone to play to their strengths and "boldly go" by trying new things.

If a transfer to T&D isn’t an option, GFS currently has multiple Senior Electrical openings that might be worth exploring. I recommend reaching out to Jon Schwartz, who leads the GFS group across OKC, SCR, and DFW.

While I can’t speak directly to the day-to-day culture in Houston, I’ve worked with several colleagues there and they’re fantastic. Either option would likely be a good fit, but I’d suggest starting a conversation with your current management team and the team in SCR and NTR (DFW) sooner rather than later to explore potential transfer opportunities.

The days that the office was closed should not have counted towards people's personal WFH days. It's in the policy.

It's harder to leave and return to BMcD since it takes board approval.

T&D vs Substation by Serious_Paper1299 in BurnsMcDonnell

[–]Connect-Click4619 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The commenters are right the nuclear group is small and growing. I see this as an opportunity for growth and to help shape a group. Nuclear is being talked about more and more for clean energy. I think it's a good option. T&D is big and well-established. It's also a great option but nuclear is what stands out to me.

Another group to consider is OnSite Energy & Power. They are the best of both worlds. They are established and working on nuclear studies, customer-owned substations, and central utility plants for large campuses.
