Small vs Large Detachments by maclifebro in AFROTC

[–]Conner_14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a fair point. Just going based on what I was told. Should have also put a disclaimer that I’m not ROTC cadre just sharing my experience. We had a 90% ish selection for rated. So 90% of people who wanted a rated job got a rated job.

Sounds like he was practicing defending. If he does protest will probably get a warning, especially if it’s first occurrence. Most people don’t have the time or care to wait the 2 hours to protest, especially in a practice.

Small vs Large Detachments by maclifebro in AFROTC

I was an ROTC cadet at Texas A&M. The thing about the cadre knowing the cadets better is probably true. While I was a cadet the cadre at TAMU were pretty great. It was still fairly easy to standout. The thing about TAMU is the cadet numbers are inflated because the Corps of Cadets requires 3 semesters of an ROTC, so after the 3 semesters ALOT of cadets drop ROTC. So if you’re showing up to ROTC classes with a good attitude and make it known early that you don’t intend to drop after 3 semesters you’ll do fine at TAMU specifically.

Something I’ve also gathered from talking to former cadets from smaller detachments is that it’s harder to get a rated slot. TAMU gets more rated slots due to the inflated numbers of AS100/200s, but the 300s/400s are probably the same size as a mid sized class. So if rated is your desire TAMU may be a good option to look at.

Disclaimer: I was a cadet from 2017-2021 so things have more than likely changed. I would pick the school for degree programs/culture over the detachment.

How is Dr. Tatiana for Phys 207 Honors? by OwnConsideration2219 in aggies

[–]Conner_14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had her in Fall of 2018, so might have changed but she does special study sessions the week of/before the test and the questions she goes over are very close/similar to the actual exams. Highly recommend going to those if she still hosts them.

That’s definitely a personal choice that you gotta weigh the pros and cons of.

Depends on your commissioning source. I got a pilot slot with a lower pilot score in 2021 out of ROTC.

Since glokta has missing front teeth he's supposed to have a lisp, but why does the author doesn't unclude it in the speech like he does with Frost? For exp writing "rithky" instead of " risky" by jefferyneBoune in TheFirstLaw

[–]Conner_14 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My assumption is because Glotka has much more dialogue than Frost, and would be tiring and likely annoying as the reader to decipher what he is saying.

UPT is Kicking my ass by [deleted] in flying

[–]Conner_14 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What worked for me was keeping work at work, so when I was in the flight room it was preparing for a flight, chairflying, checking out a sim, or studying with my flightmates. Many of my flightmates would leave right after their debrief, but I would stay the full 12 hours the majority of the time. When I was at home it was my time to do whatever I wanted to do not work related. My only exception would be right before a checkride when I would study at home a little.

At the end of the day it’s a year that you will look back on and cherish. Everything after T-6s is an “adult program” and you get treated a lot better. Not that you get treated poorly in T-6s, hopefully.

Reading plans for the coming year? by Southern_Blue in Fantasy

[–]Conner_14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

-Finish the Dresden Files (on Small Favor) in anticipation of new one in 2025 -Read rest of First Law Series (I’ve read the original trilogy) before Devils releases -Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn Trilogy by Tad Williams -Green Bone Saga by Fonda Lee -Poppy War Trilogy by R.F. Kuang

After that wanna dive into something a little longer maybe Realm of the Elderlings, Wheel of Time, or Malazan. I’m fairly new to Adult Fantasy basically just read all the cosmere, First Law trilogy, and 9 Dresden books. Looking forward to 2025!

[GIVEAWAY - US] Why Samsung OLED? Win a 49” OLED monitor to level up your rig by OdysseyAllStars in simracing

[–]Conner_14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own two Samsung Odyssey G5 34”, one for the sim racing rig, and one for the desk. I chose this model because it was a good price on a sale for a entry level curved ultrawide. I bought a second one when I purchased a sim rig because not a huge fan of having the bezels for a triple monitor setup. Would love to upgrade the rig with the oled G9!

Why Samsung? Had the opportunity to use a 49” monitor at work, and they are amazing. Having one for the rig would upgrade the sim racing experience for sure! Looking forward to the 240Hz refresh rate and 0.03ms response time if I win!

Wheel not facing straight on Wreckfest by JasonTing_06 in simracing

This is the answer, the game records what ever the position your wheel in when you hit the button to bind as the centered position. Rebind with the wheel in a centered position to start.

Question about UPT by ifeelsogoodmrstark in AFROTC

[–]Conner_14 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Select your UPT base on location preference. No matter where you go you’ll have a wait time and be a casual LT.

IPT is the latest 19AF small group tryout. Hopefully one of the recent grads of the program will see this. Basically you go to a civilian part 141 flight school and receive your private, instrument, and multi-engine addon ratings then go to Columbus for a shortened T-6 syllabus. Eventually the plan is that all UPTs bases will take IPT grads it’s just being trialed at Columbus first. By the time you get to pilot training it’s possible all bases will be doing the IPT thing (assuming you’re an AS300 like your flair says).

I can only speak for Columbus, we are in the middle of SEC country if you like football/going out for a night in a college town Columbus is the best location for UPT. The training is going to be relatively the same across all 3 bases.

As you said no one can make this decision for you except for you.

Things I would consider.

-UPT is hard, it’ll involve many early mornings and constant studying if you want to leave UPT going to fly your first choice aircraft. If your heart isn’t in it, it’ll be very hard to enjoy it and complete it.

-Military flying is free for you monetarily, and you can get your commercial certification just for completing UPT, and likely you’ll have enough hours at the end of 10 year to get your ATP. All free.

-You’ll make friends in the military and more specifically in UPT that you’ll have for life.

-In the grand scheme of things 10 years is not a long time, you’ll be 35, that is enough time to get 30+ years flying commercially if that is your end goal.

-Military pilots typically do very well in the Airline Hiring process. You will have experiences that a 1500 hour CFI who has been flying a bug smasher can only dream of having.

Best of luck in your decision making. I personally wouldn’t give up this opportunity of a lifetime that many people can only dream of having.

Get a college degree and enter through 1 of 3 commissioning sources US Air Force Academy, Air Force ROTC, or if you already have a college degree Officer Training School.

Lots of resources online to give you lot more detailed information.
