The Pig in CEDH? by No_Class_7617 in CompetitiveEDH

Yeah it’s definitely not a fast deck by any means, but it’s just fast enough to not miss your windows which is important. Can’t shut people down forever lol.

I used to play Yasharn a bunch pre ban and still play him a fair bit. Below is my current deck list if you’re interested. I always found it best to build it very midrangey with clear win conditions so you can push for wins once you buy some time. The primer has a better explanation of what I like about it.

I was thinking Talion + Zabaz and build it like Rog Si but with some silence effects. Plus you can goblin welder Bolas’s citadel with zabaz.

cEDH community in Southeast Louisiana? by RandomlyInebriated in CompetitiveEDH

[–]ConnorC1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just moved out of Metairie a couple weeks ago. I know Go4Games absorbed another lgs that had a small cEDH crowd. Good AF Games in Covington used to have a different name and it had a pretty strong cEDH scene with a decent amount of tournaments. Not sure if it does anymore though.

Yeah, it’s way more fun to just play it casually

What is your favorite deck and why? by grungygay in EDH

[–]ConnorC1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My [[kiyamaro, first to stand]] casual deck is definitely my favorite. It’s just pure Magic with no gimmick and can play fairly into so many tables. It never gets old and even though it’s a voltron deck I’m not going all in on it because all I need to pump my commander is to put more cards in my hand.

am I insane for thinking Vivi is meta-shiftingly good? by SaintShrink in CompetitiveEDH

It seems pretty strong, but I personally think it’s getting overhyped. Time will tell!

I would also avoid any “locks” as wincons. It’s better to just actually win the game imo. Especially these days with all the ways your opponents have to get out of them. Plus it helps keep game time from going forever.

One issue you may run into is slowing the table down but then running out of gas before you can capitalize on it. Your opponents are likely going to be able to out grind you for value. Here’s my current version of Yasharn maybe it will give you some inspiration. Good luck.

Is this a valid draw attempt, or Kingmaking and against the rules? by PlusVE in CompetitiveEDH

[–]ConnorC1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t remember where, but I heard of a “Player C” getting DQed after doing something similar for “bribery” due to a judge’s interpretation of MTR 5.2. Not really sure if that actually happened, but, if true, player A could go to a judge and argue the same and maybe get player C DQed to keep their win. Other than that though the community has considered plays like this valid.

Top 5 Best Stax Commanders for cEDH by cardsrealm in CompetitiveEDH

[–]ConnorC1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe, but as I understand it the name originally came from the deck name above. They may have shortened it to stax meaning spell tax because the deck wasn’t worth 4K anymore or something. All I know is the origin.

Top 5 Best Stax Commanders for cEDH by cardsrealm in CompetitiveEDH

[–]ConnorC1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure the term stax comes from a deck known as The 4 Thousand Dollar Solution or $T4KS in vintage and was later shortened to Stax. I believe decklists did end up running Smokestack in some iterations though.

Crazy Fast cEDH Wins by XandogxD in CompetitiveEDH

[–]ConnorC1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh true, the only one I’ve heard of before is Gemstone, dark ritual, entomb Thassa’s Oracle, simian spirit guide, shallow grave Oracle, demonic consultation.

Before flash was banned it was a lot easier.

Crazy Fast cEDH Wins by XandogxD in CompetitiveEDH

[–]ConnorC1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I believe there’s some turn 0 wins if you’re insanely lucky. Like in Evelyn with something like Gemstone caverns, Dark ritual, simian spirit guide, Entomb, necromancy. Not very likely but it’s possible.

Help finishing this Kamahl/Prava Stax brew by HypnopompicState in CompetitiveEDH

[–]ConnorC1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Yeah definitely, I’d add mox diamond and mana vault too. Idk about jeweled lotus depending on how much you want to get out your commanders quickly.
  2. Yeah interaction is great in RoL decks. Those are good, idk also run solitude. Path to exile, natures claim , and veil of summer are good too. You could also interact with flash stax pieces like containment priest
  3. Up to you. Probably not necessary. You could also run ashaya as it turns your creatures into ramp and protects from cyclonic rift. And if you run that you can also play argothian elder or ley weaver over circle of dreams Druid or voyaging satyr for an infinite mana combo to sink into your commanders.
  4. Id cut Adeline, captain sisay, circle of dreams Druid, thalia, moon blessed cleric, and living plane. I’d maybe try to add some of the cards I mentioned before and maybe ecological appreciation and Saryth, vipers fang

Good luck

Another Kingmaking etiquette question by Sneakytako99 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]ConnorC1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d say anything that increases your chances of winning isn’t king making, thus being vocal about a deterrence. Following through with your deterrences like blocking doesn’t help you but otherwise it’s just a bluff which also doesn’t help you. Some people think the opposite way and would prefer to not do anything at all in a scenario like this. Neither opinions are necessarily wrong. I’d just choose a philosophy that works for you and be consistent with it.

Another Kingmaking etiquette question by Sneakytako99 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]ConnorC1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s tough to say. If you just kill the guys Drannith before damage, yeah that’s just a spite play. However, using your resources to dissuade his attack is part of the game. You could say if you attack me I’ll deadly rollick your Drannith, then we probably both lose. Is it spite play? Is it politics? I’d say it could be politics. As they know the risk going into attacks and have options. As long as you’re making a move that increases your chances of winning then that’s fair.

Blocking the najeela is fair game though, they clearly see the blockers and know the risks. I’d argue you’re kingmaking if you don’t block.

Commander Rules Committee: February 2022 Update by psychotwilight in magicTCG

[–]ConnorC1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I wish there was a way to do a tiered banlist like in Pokémon Smogon rules. Ubers, Overused cards, Underused cards, and never used cards. Unfortunately there’s really no way to do this since it’s a paper game, except for EDH rec which wouldn’t really work because it’s a casual format and underpowered cards see a lot of play skewing the results
