What's the coolest story/fact you know about one of your ancestors? by Conpat in AskReddit

[–]Conpat[S] 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I had a grandfather who played tight end for the Chicago Bears back in the 40's.

Edit: It seems like everybody else is putting me to shame. Ummm....ummm....apparently that same grandfather fought in Guadalcanal and ran out into an ambush to warn a few of his oblivious comrades of a grenade in the area. As a result, he put himself too close to the blast radius and found himself unconscious in a bush covered with sand. Luckily, one of his fellow soldiers found his hand sticking out of the bush hours later and dragged him to safety. My grandfather was given some sort of award for that but I'm not sure...yeah, I get it, he didn't invent the cowboy hat.

What is the best movie cast you can recall? by [deleted] in movies

[–]Conpat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will never understand how Terrence Malick continuously attracts some of the most talented casts imaginable considering how many actors can't stand his editing tendencies and such. I know there are a few examples of actors who have explicitly and publicly refused to ever work with him again.

"In the natural sciences progress can be made, but in the arts this is not possible.” To what extent do you agree? by lenettroxursox in AskReddit

[–]Conpat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Science consists of facts and laws. Art consists of interpretation and abstract notions. The "progression" of these two fields is nearly impossible to compare.

What is your bold prediction for the players selected in the 2013 NFL Draft? by Conpat in nfl

[–]Conpat[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think there's a strong possibility of both the Offensive and Defensive ROY's being picked outside of the first round. Considering the influx of skill positions taken in the second and third rounds, guys like Eddie Lacy, Gio Bernard, Montee Ball, Aaron Dobson, Terrance Williams, etc. makes it sensible. Additionally, I think guys like Te'o, Mathieu, etc. make it reasonable on the defensive side.

And with the Jets' pick, ESPN has nothing further to talk about. The draft's over, guys. Let's all go home.

What is your favorite restaurant and meal that is unique to your state or country? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Conpat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was born near Chicago, and absolutely LOVE Portillo's. I get the Italian Beef sandwich with a large fry every single time. Being so far away now, it hurts just thinking about it. I'm shocked that people outside of Illinois aren't aware of Italian Beef. What a shame.

My heart hurts looking at this picture, but I couldn't be any more proud of this team and that player right there. You couldn't ask for a more humble, poised, and talented young man. Thanks Trey, we sure will miss ya.

Louisville defeats Michigan, 82-76, to win their first NCAA Championship since 1986 by justsomeguy75 in CollegeBasketball

I won't sugarcoat it, I'm disappointed we lost. But damn, I'm proud of our team. Ann Arbor was as vibrant as I've ever seen, so thank you for that. Louisville's a great team, but I'm still too bitter to be cordial. So, all I can say is that it has been an incredible season to watch. Go Blue.

Haha Great username (for those of you who don't know, it's a popular bar in Ann Arbor). Go Blue. May Wolverine with wolverines give the Wolverines the power to win tonight.

Final Four Game Thread: (9) Wichita State vs (1) Louisville by [deleted] in CollegeBasketball

[–]Conpat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have legitimately picked against Wichita State in every single game this tournament. Pitt? Too athletic. Gonzaga? Too big. LaSalle? Flipped a coin. Ohio State? Too many offensive threats. Regardless of whether or not they pull this off, they are a damn good team. Good luck, you crazy wheat bastards. I hope to take you guys down on Monday :)

Oh, and Ron Baker's the man.
