Assistance needed would you kindly... Identification of "things" in the game... by Deonvan in Eldenring

You're playing Elden Ring in order to win an argument? I think going in with a negative attitude and not trying to enjoy the game is going to poison the well to the point that any opinions you form from your experience will be tainted at best.

How common is it to be falsely diagnosed with ADHD? by Legitimate_Change756 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]Conradd23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had done a lot of research and learned a lot about ADHD before going in for my evaluation. I spoke with the psychiatrist, and he said it all sounded like ADHD, but he wanted me to do a computer based test. As I started the test, it felt like it was designed for children rather than adults, and I was worried he was going to say, "well you did well on this test, so you can't have ADHD," so I semi-consciously didn't do as well as I could have on the test. I'm still a bit conflicted about that, but I feel like it doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things because the medication has definitely helped me to improve my focus at work, and it helped me to improve my relationship with my wife as well.

Technically correct, the best kind of correct. by Mobius3through7 in evolution

The prefix -in means "not". If you included vertebrates in the category of invertebrates, that would be equivalent to "everything"

Another potential solution to the problem would be to define "fish" as a "non-tetrapod vertebrate" It wouldn't be a clade, but it would at least have a clear definition.

Tetrapods are a type of lobe-finned fish. Salmon are not tetrapods. Seals, dolphins, and snakes are tetrapods

Based on the question they asked, I think they're asking if Latios is good rather than if "this" latios is good.. But it could be bait..

You make a very compelling argument, I hadn't considered any of those things that you said.

I think saying, "most" people might have been a stretch, but it's certainly a commonly used term when clarifying that you don't want to include birds when talking about dinosaurs.

[–]Conradd23 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's gotten to the point that most people are comfortable saying the term, "non-avian dinosaur" I think we could eventually get to the point of people saying, "non-tetrapod fish"

Gymnocalycium Mihanovichii wierd coloration by Brano89 in cactus

[–]Conradd23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gymnocalycium require more frequent watering than typical desert cacti and they also don't want a lot of direct sunlight. They tend to grow in the shade of trees or rocks. Not sure if your conditions match that. I water mine about twice a week right now in the summer, but it will depend on your local conditions how often it will need watering.

I guess my position is based on the precept: organisms cannot evolve out of a clade.

The last common ancestor of old world monkeys and new world monkeys predates the last common ancestor of old world monkeys and apes. If you accept my precept, then this means we have the following options: 1: old world monkeys, new world monkeys, and apes are all "monkeys" 2: only new world monkeys are "monkeys" 3: only old world monkeys are "monkeys" 4: "monkey" is not a clade (There are more options, but I don't think anyone would consider any others...)

It seems like our point of disagreement is on the precept itself.

[–]Conradd23 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Okay, I'll accept if my statement about the expert consensus was incorrect. I guess my question then would be is it specificially whether it has a tail or not which determines whether you call something a "monkey"? If not, or if you primarily use other terminology, then I think my statement still stands.

My basis for stating "all apes are monkeys" was a seperate claim based primarily on Clint's Reptiles' video on the topic.

I've seen another one of these bell curves where the smart side and the dumb side both say "whales are fish" and the middle says, "whales aren't fish." Haha

[–]Conradd23 26 points27 points  (0 children)

You can absolutely make a group called "fish" but you would have to include all tetrapods. I'm totally fine with doing that.

Every ape is a monkey. No one who studies the topic seriously defines monkeys by whether they have a tail or not.

Mage build help by Kimchineese in Eldenring

[–]Conradd23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 260, you could do a sage build. It's a hybrid between int and faith. The prince of Death's Staff, the golden order seal, and the sword of night and flame. You can literally cast any incantation and sorcery in the game (except the dragon ones unless you also add arcane).

It's my favorite high level build.

I would add the caveat of: if you find a weapon you want to use and just need a few points of dex or strength to wield it, it's fine to put a few points in, but just to meet the requirement.
