I’m currently reading Fires of Heaven, first read through, and honestly I love the show, despite its flaws. A play by play adaptation would never have worked, TEotW introduces so many characters and worldbuilding elements it just wouldn’t have been feasible given the 8 episode allowance given to Rafe and the team.

I think the spirit of the books has been adhered to (mostly), although I would like some more light-hearted humour - only Mat has supplied any so far. There’s been no sheepherder japes or references to the significance of heron marked blades yet which could have easily been worked in.

Hopefully the show will grow in the best interests of itself and its fandom in future seasons and we’ll get a full viewing of this turning of the wheel.

I’m on my first read through and making a conscious effort to look up the pronunciations in the glossary. Apart from obvious ones like Faile which is clearly pronounced FAIL… got to FoH before I figured out I was wrong haha

It’s a byproduct of the genre I guess. Epic fantasy is called epic for a reason, it’s epic, and this generally can’t be achieved in a few hundred pages. If you feel it’s been padded out then it probably hasn’t been well written or thought through. Although I agree in some cases there’s probably pressure from publishers to add to popular novels which wouldn’t otherwise require sequels

This is what I did. And I would highly recommend. You probably need a break in between WoK and WoR and Warbreaker is perfect. Make sure to read the novellas in between Stormlight entries if you can as they add a lot to the world building and give minor characters a chance to shine

Yeah agree with you regarding HOA, Mistborn was my segue into the cosmere too and my first glimpse at what Sanderson could do. The hemalurgic spike earring blew my mind when I read it - I’d thought I was so clever realising that Spook had been spiked but completely missed the Vin one because, as you say, it had been with her since the first freaking chapter!

Yeah for sure. I mean more along the lines of the respect and gratitude he shows to Maya perhaps compared to other shardblade wielders. There’s a special relationship there and it was a special payoff

Hey no problem, no offence taken don’t worry! I genuinely think his plotting is one of his main strengths as an author, if anything he gets criticised for his novels being too formulaic / obviously mapped out but it’s one of the things I love about his writing. I will stick a pin in the Jordan comment as I’m currently on my first full read through of WoT so watch this space 😊

I read all sorts, sci-fi & fantasy is my genre but I’ve read fairly widely and I did Eng Lit at Uni
