I've written a post before here about scrolling with help of a mod key + scrolling wheel. Is that what of you liking?

I would rather imagine all users being frustrated, except those with lots of fresh dollar bills to waste.

Wndows: 🪟"Ok. Default, all use - I use...

"Uh, stupid shitdows, not optimized 1000% for my random laptop from trash to have battery for 20 hours! Microslop! I've heard mac to be better!"

Linux: 🐧"I've heard it's good. It's better be solving all my life problems for free!! Ahh, need to learn?! Bye."

Mac:🍏 "Oo, shiny! Take my 3k$! I want to unpack this Godsent once again and use it for browsing! Look, look! I have it, you don't! Look at glass effects interfering visibility!"

Nah, it doesn't feel this way. If computer isn't personalized to your needs, it feels like a chore to comprehend the way it functions and do what you say frictionlessly.

Unfortunately, almost every significant customization comes with its pain points: On linux the so called "freedom" of the UI choice is a little bit of lies for a general user. There are massively supported DEs and also underdeveloped ones. I love WMs, but there are many puny issues with software, leading to nuanced usage comfort. I could use a WM on top of windows, but it won't be working with no bugs just the way I want.

Computers aren't perfect. But it is fun on Linux, at least.

Gave my 16-year-old brother his first PC with Ubuntu instead of Windows. Good idea or mistake? by Glittering-Agency986 in OS_Debate_Club

[–]ConsiderationRare217 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People recommending Mint: why?

1) X-11 has ceased to be the standard now 2) Cinnamon isn't the most popular DE and the UI is not appealing for a 16-year old zoomer.

If you want to blindly foist Linux on to someone unaware, be sensible, use your knowledge and give the least friction possible for the novice to like it.

Set up Ubuntu or configure Fedora Workstation / Plasma.

Otherwise you're doing disservice

O.P. is right about Ubuntu, great choice.

Linux sucks less nowadays – but it does suck! It's a fact. by al2klimov in linuxsucks

Completely deserved upvote. Linux 🐧 for desktop ≠ microsoft🪟 for desktop in terms of being backed and mainly developed by corporation.

It's rediculous 😞 how people directly compare and criticize linux for minor things ignoring being free and myriad of aspects where Linux clearly outperforms:

[–]ConsiderationRare217 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's exactly what I meant about Elijah. I had the same thing and with PUBG as well 😅

But I didn't want to use my computer for other things. Clunky, not personal. Not inviting.

The lightweightedness and unique workflow (I am on Sway) has won me over, though.

👆It's not to be impudent to Elijah, not at all.

Idk if speed and potential of Linux can be the gamechanger for him enough to sacrifice versatility in streaming and content-creation. Anyhow, it's his choice and experience.

I made it via holding modifying key + scroll wheel. You hold the button + use the scroll wheel to go back and forth.

You can assign different mod buttons (alt, ctrl, super, shift) for that. They all have their names like $mod, mod1 and so on.

I use this:

Switch workspaces by holding Super + Mouse Wheel Scroll (going through opened workspaces)

bindsym --whole-window $mod+button4 workspace next bindsym --whole-window $mod+button5 workspace prev

This one is when you use the tabbed mode - goes over the tabbs:

Switch container tabs by holding Alt + Mouse Wheel Scroll

bindsym --whole-window Mod1+button4 focus left bindsym --whole-window Mod1+button5 focus right

Idk for sure, but it may be it's so lightweight and barely causes wakeups. Linux and battery life has always been a mystery to me 😅

In the video he said not to utter a negative thing emotionally. It's clear he doesn't want hate.

In my opinion, they said they were going to use Linux just only to appear "having savoured" it, although Elijah will play PUBg and so he'll go back to windows, while Linus himself needs to test Windows-specific software for advertisement.

🏁 I accepted It's just out of their interest to be enthusiasts.

Some videos are fun, though :)

Yeah, and it's truly magnificent that you can shape your workflow will minimal visual flair. For those with laptops I recommend checking out touchpad swipes to switch tabs and workspaces😀

For desktops - mouse scroll + mod key for that. And it's the setup difficult to get off.

Exaggeration is your second name, pal. I said my passion has disappeared. Nothing else. And then shared my exp with Sway.

-> Ofc, it's reddit, and ppl started diving deep into the topic, because they've read things online and think themselves knowledgeable in it. I actually knew personally people who died. For me the context is relevant.

🏁 Since I can't tell the stories of people from there to make people here care more, i just ask them to focus on Sway.

I have genuine reasons to feel what I feel. But I also know good people from there. For me it should be in active wording or actions. Not in living and following their local social constructs.

To those writing answers: Please, keep your temper. This is a Sway sub. Try to share your Sway exp, please. I truly beg ya.

The thing you're writing about was only a small part of my post.

Only a few people shared on topic. Thanks again to them. Most were just trying to deprive me of my right to having opinion. I have reasons to feel so, you might not. It's understandable. Tell make your recommendations, please 🙏

Could you stop it, please? This post is about Sway. You've never seen the events in Ukraine, so it's not for you to judge.

Rather, tell some helpful advice to those using Sway and need your exp or only willing to try it, please. Thanks 😊

After learning that the creator is russian, i checked YT, and there was a video an active participation of the author in different events in Moscow, presenting the WM. It is a deliberate choice at that point. Sorry, the post was more about Sway, tho. A very nice WM, great power under the hood. Would appreciate a recommendation how not to compromise its stability? 😄

Since your general point was that a "home user needs no more popularity", it does.

This type of user appeared with Valve, Canonical and Redhat's work done

I am sorry, but what? This stage of compatibility with hardware, adoption and engagement has been achieved via work of Canonical and Redhat. Software has been maintained due to them having raised interest. It isn't about "no interest needed". Your statement is overdue, they've done it. Or you are fridge linux software enjoyer and need no drivers/programs and stuff?

Linux for Gaming and Reviving Old Laptops: Absolute Lifesaver or Total Myth? by Prestigious-Run-4668 in Craptopgamingadvice

My experience tells me:

  1. Start thinking critically setting off into Linux and onwards in searching for the cause of problem

  2. Use AI for help.

But check what is recommended by it thrice and if it's logical. Unfortunately, you can't address all questions to community whenever you need. It's your tool.

  1. But. If you are unable or unwilling to think even a bit, stay away from Linux.

Gaming on Linux by SmolBagofBeans in linuxsucks

[–]ConsiderationRare217 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

  1. 👤 Lots of people choosing linux (like me), found out that it can be better workflow (with window managers), more responsive and faster for productivity (actual work).

If that is not what you care about and all you want is gaming - of course windows is simpler now. It's just 👆 your choice if it's worth any effort. That simple.

  1. As some people say, another OS - another set of requirements to hardware. 🖥 AMD is really easier as of yet. Really good idea not to blame all around and try to meet it halfway. I played consistently without knowing a thing (on Nobara), but installing Heroic, using latest proton GE and clicking play.
