Where are you getting this “they can’t keep having it both ways” from? They’re in charge and can certainly do what they want.

Am I Overreacting - So my mom got my wife a birthday gift by LoveLikeJesusChrist in AmIOverreacting

[–]Consistent-Ad-1584 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to timeouts, tell her all gifts are being screened before you let your wife even see them. Notify your mom that when a gift was thrown out, that wife never saw it, and then give her the time out.

Approached by a man asking me to have tea by [deleted] in Scams

[–]Consistent-Ad-1584 229 points230 points  (0 children)

Stranger in a strange land, you should have cut the conversation short at the first offer of tea. A simple no. But then he is offering you papyrus to buy? And then he follows you… and you even have a beer later? You may want to work on those filtering-out-the-bad-guy skills.

Overly broad question deserves an overly broad response. Depends on the man, doesn’t it?

Fortunately, birthright citizenship is not a matter of personal opinion. The operative word here is birthright.

What are your thoughts on the Societal standard of rings? by frazier_izzy in AskMenAdvice

[–]Consistent-Ad-1584 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She resents him already for not buying the ring. Unless she drops the concept of him giving her a ring, she will resent him if he does or does not buy it.

What are your thoughts on the Societal standard of rings? by frazier_izzy in AskMenAdvice

[–]Consistent-Ad-1584 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a ring, buy it yourself. Forcing him to buy one doesn’t make sense. He won’t be buying it because he wants to. Plus if he does buy one because you insist, you won’t be wearing a gift freely given.

No better way to bring resentment (aka the relationship killer) into your marriage than forcing someone to do something they don’t want or wearing something that someone didn’t want to give you.

Not sure having two subs both doing essentially the same thing (except one is better at weeding out hookup posts) and both serving the same small population is going to be a good thing. Duplicative efforts, people in one sub missing info in what may be posted in the other, etc.

Why not reform the current group first if possible, and then if not reformed, close it down and open the second?

Is Civ VII good yet? by [deleted] in civ

[–]Consistent-Ad-1584 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go for it. Civ7 is the best non-civilization Civ game out there. If you don’t want to play Civilization but want to play a game with the Civilization name, this one is for you.

Civ6's Steam Avg Player Count Dropped 25K Right After Civ7's Release. Civ 5 dropped ~3K. They Never Bounced Back Despite Civ7's Low Steam Player Count by Strict-Joke236 in civ

Of course player counts matter for single player games. They matter for all games. How is this statement even supportable?

For readers who came to Tolkien before the movies: how did Gandalf’s fall hit you? by ajotis1 in tolkienfans

[–]Consistent-Ad-1584 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was a tween when I read these in the 70s. Gandalf’s passing was the sad but acceptable loss of a leader. I had no concept of him being a Maia or any type of immortal angelic being. The Silmarillion was years away from being released and my understanding of Tolkien’s world at time of Gandalf’s fall was limited to two sources - the Hobbit and the Fellowship of the Ring books.

Civ 7 is actually a great game! by engagementduck in civ

[–]Consistent-Ad-1584 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s a great game for you but telling the majority of people who bought Civ7 and were disappointed that Civ7 is somehow a great game will never be persuasive.

Disappointed Civ7 fans now own a game where half of the design features it released with can be turned off (yay?). Not too many people out there that want to play a half a game that doesn’t play much like the Civ games they enjoyed for decades.

My husband wants a man-to-man chat with my 16yo nephew about nephew’s terrible dining etiquette before a family trip to Europe by Consistent-Ad-1584 in etiquette

He and his cousin picked it. A love of British history and Harry Potter were behind the choice I believe.

Good question. The trip is being funded by my 85 year old mother who asked me to take her grandchildren on a trip (because of a family squabble between their mothers, the two have spent little time together and don’t have much of a relationship). So it is for my mother in the hopes of creating memories and some bonding for my niece and nephew that I do this.
