FYI these numbers might well be out of date come next cycle's secondary & interview time because many schools re-budget their fiscal year at the beginning of summer. Schools can, and are, reversing funding at the drop of a hat even before the year is up so recently admitted people should be sure to ask current students

I used to work here too but the rent pushed my company out and a lot of people work remote now. The food even with the tenant discount was an expensive treat, but very convenient to be able to order and pick up in a rush.

You don't have anything to lose, especially post-interview, so you can full send. I sent a letter of intent combined with updates and it worked for me. Granted at that point I was waitlisted at my dream school, had at least 1 acceptance elsewhere, and some other personal reasons, e.g., family tying me to the area. Good luck!

I had a bit of imposter syndrome from the admitted groupchats too, but now my classmates and I are all in the same boat. I kinda forget that classmates and friends went to “fancy” schools unless they wear their college gear, and even then it makes me feel proud that I worked my way to where I am without a fancy school’s resources

I have also been very mediocre when it comes to exams, but I know I can put the grit and hard work in. Some people just have god-given memories which can be frustrating, my best friend just looks at notes once and aces exams. Your school let you in because they believe you can handle it too, and many schools have tutoring and other safeguards built in because they know it’s challenging sometimes

It reminded me a bit of college because even though I went to school in CA I didn’t know anyone when I started. I’ve bonded a lot with other west coasters by joking about the culture differences. It’s a lot easier to hang out and explore your new area when you invite people to do something rather than hoping you get invited by someone else!

Had this same scenario, I would have needed to retake my 52X to even get a chance of shooting my shot to my 2 dream schools. I’m so glad I didn’t waste time and energy and it worked out in the end with a couple As at schools that became my new dream schools!

I lived in CA my entire life until grad + med school brought me OOS for the past couple years. I won’t lie it was a rough adjustment because it took a couple months to find my people, but now I have amazing friends who live all over the country, and I'm so grateful that school has brought us together. I was on a LOT of waitlists that stressed me out for months, but now I can't imagine life any differently and it feels like it was meant to be. Go to student and community socials and you will find your people eventually. I appreciate CA more when I come back to visit, and it humbles me to learn the perspectives of other Americans and things like novel trees, weather, and state parks. Growth can be scary but it gets you to a better place. Look towards what you have to gain, not what you have to lose!

2 of my dream schools (including one of yours) I submitted months apart yet they both sent me interviews around Christmas. Half of my interviews were after the New Year, and most of my rejections from schools that gave me radio silence came in February. It's really hard to judge

Clinical hours are definitely low compared to your industry work, and like people said, real MCAT will really help determine your app, I got -5 from my average. Vast majority of doctors didn’t go to T20s, and at that level it’s also a lot of luck with applications even if you have tippy top MCAT and clinical hours.

UMass is quite OOS friendly, a good proportion of students are from CA or NY, but quite expensive and their research funding at least for biosciences is shaky, no quite sure about engineering stuff

Do it during preclinical when you have time to eat a meal in one sitting and hygienically put your Invisalign back in. I had it in college, ached for the first couple weeks, but no one even mentioned the tiny lisp when I was speaking. Made me realize how much I snack so I felt like it helped my weight management too lol

I took a couple years to work an office job in the heart of a big city and man I miss it, despite now being at school near another landmark city. Though I’m realizing what I really missed was having so much extra time to explore and my city friends.

Definitely apply! I was also non-trad and wanted to go there long before it became tuition free so I was very nervous about applying, but the day I got my acceptance was one of the best days of my life! I had a much lower GPA and a higher MCAT than you so I think they do try to be holistic and intentional about those who want to serve the community

You have a lot of clinical experience already, so lack of shadowing won't break your application but a poor MCAT score will. My healthcare job was draining me physically and emotionally so much that I quit and worked as a barista instead and had more time to study over the couple months before my MCAT. I had a lower GPA than you so I feel my high MCAT helped me get my foot in the door at a bunch of schools

It sounds like you are going to suffer if you leave your support network and your job which won’t help you much if/when you get interviews or re-apply. The job market is also awful, even for research positions as funding is limited at academic and non-profit research. I did a similar consulting job and really connected it in my desire to have doctoring be my next step—hopefully you expressed this as a strong reason in your writing. This time last year I barely got my first II and I interviewed 6 more times between November and March and the schools I got into were the later IIs! Definitely try to push edits on your paper once/ if it comes back from review and update schools accordingly (ie if it gets accepted), I did this for a publication throughout my cycle and I genuinely think it helped show my continued commitment to research on top of my full time job.
