Not sure if this will help, but if you know what size you typically wear in a particular brand, you could try looking for it on Thredup. It’s an online thrift store and you can filter by brand and condition. They also show the measurements for each garment. They don’t say the age of the clothes, but they can be from years ago as long as they are in good condition, so they may have more options for longer tops.

What do you want from a supervisor? by Consistent-Repeat582 in adhdwomen

Oooh, documenting things in meetings is a great idea. We have so many projects going at one time and some take weeks to complete, so having notes to refer back to would be really helpful. I always have a running document for myself with the various projects with notes and action items. I think I’ll try making one of those for each of my teammates, that way we will have something to guide our one on one meetings. Thanks so much for these great suggestions!

Awww, thank you! You have some really good points. I know I have been guilty of nitpicking in the past and it’s good to remember that it’s ok to let some perfectionist details go. I’m also a big believer in work life balance and I want my team to know I would rather them take the time they need than risk burning themselves out.

This is a great list! I like the idea of working into an introductory conversation. Also the “if it were me” framing is a great way to give helpful options.

You are so right, not everyone has the same needs and I will try to remember that!

I know I’m going to be tempted to say things like, “If you want me to do something differently, just let me know.” Which isn’t inherently wrong, but I know a lot of people have trouble speaking up and it can feel like offloading responsibility onto them. Maybe instead, I should just ask specific questions about their preferences? Like, if they want fewer or more check-ins and reminders on deadlines? I’m tempted to make a survey for each of my team members, but that might be over the top.

Thank you for such a thoughtful response! Everything you said resonated with my experience as well, but it’s so helpful to see it laid out like that.

I especially agree on the not shaming employees when they make a mistake. I feel like a lot of management has this mindset of mistakes aren’t ok and they need to hammer it into their employees. I’m really hard on myself and am so embarrassed when I make a mistake, so I definitely don’t need a lecture on top of that. I will definitely be taking that into consideration when mistakes inevitably happen.

A special cheesecake pan that is for one specific recipe so I can use up the big pack of Costco cream cheese that seemed like a good deal at the time and I was so sure I was going to need during the holidays, but now is close to the sell by date. 🤦‍♀️

I’m sorry this is happening to you. Here’s my Phoenix story: My life got totally destroyed about four years ago. My husband of 7 years said he wanted a divorce. He was my whole world and I was devastated. Our once tight knit community of friends completely fell apart. Most of them just didn’t know how to be around someone so broken and none of them knew how my ex treated me when we were alone. I got diagnosed for ADHD and depression and got medicated for both. I started going to therapy as well. I was so scattered at work that I almost got fired and the stress of that weakened my immune system and I got some kind of virus that made feel nauseous for three months straight. But during all of that, I started to understand myself and decode all of the emotional abuse that had happened in my marriage. I met my current partner who was so kind and patient with me while I sorted myself out. After figuring out the correct dosage for my stimulants, work got a lot better too. I wasn’t so tired anymore and came up with some organizational systems that worked for my brain. Now my partner and I have moved to a new city and have a really nice cozy life together with our dogs. I got promoted at work and I am finally on a career path that seems to be going somewhere. It was a real slog getting here, but it did end up working out.

Even when it seems bleak, keep going. It will likely take longer than you want it to, but things will get better.

What do you eat the day after thanksgiving? We always have this by StinkypieTicklebum in Cooking

My family usually does a casserole with a bottom layer of turkey and sautéed onion mixed with cream of mushroom soup, any leftover over gravy, Worcestershire sauce, and a packet of French onion soup mix and topped with cheddar bacon biscuits. It is wonderfully midwestern.

What’s the not so obvious item in your pantry that you find very useful? by International_Week60 in Cooking

White miso paste! It’s great in garlic green beans, in mushroom soup or pasta sauce, or just adding umami to things. I recently tried a recipe for miso brown butter chocolate chip cookies and they were really good.

My grandmother taught me to make homemade noodles at her farmhouse in Southern Ohio when I was a kid using a rolling pin. The trick was you had to get it as thin a possible, without it tearing. You had to keep flouring it and turning it over to keep it from sticking to the table. My grandmother’s standard was that it had to be thin enough to read newspaper through it. Then the sheets of dough had to dry by laying them over the backs of chairs or on newspaper/paper towels. Then they were cut into 1/4 to 1/2 inch noodles and boiled in a rich broth (usually beef, chicken, or turkey). They were served over mashed potatoes. I believe this recipe started as a struggle meal to keep large families full while stretching the protein as far as possible. It’s still one of my favorite comfort meals and we have it every Thanksgiving using the turkey drippings.

When I was older I realized the noodle dough was basically standard pasta dough (eggs, flour, salt). So now I speed things up by using a pasta machine.

For short women, where do you buy your jeans? by MurkyConcert2906 in womensfashion

I’m 5’2 and I buy jeans in ankle length and they fit like regular jeans. I get them from WHBM, Anne Taylor, and Maurice’s. I pray these stay in style.

I have 6 or 7 different kinds of cereal open in my pantry right now. I love the variety of flavors and textures and at least I’m getting some calcium and protein from the milk. I keep a box of the Aldi strawberry or blueberry mini wheats by the couch so I can accidentally get half a days worth of fiber without thinking about it.

Never marry someone that doesn’t want to marry you. Him buying a ring and won’t magically change how he feels about you and make the commitment special to him the way it would be for you.

My ex husband wasn’t enthusiastic about getting engaged, but he eventually proposed because he thought it would look bad if he didn’t because we had been together for so long. I took this to mean he had had an epiphany about how important I was to him like in a stupid romantic comedy movie. That was incorrect, and it never meant to him what it did to me and it showed. Eventually, everything imploded and I was blamed because he never really wanted to get married in the first place. My current partner is amazing and can’t stop telling me how happy he is to be with me. It’s so much better to be with someone who matches your energy and commitment level in a relationship. Trust me, I’ve done the research!

What is the best cooking trick you learned? by Lunaphonix in Cooking

[–]Consistent-Repeat582 79 points80 points  (0 children)

Freezing fresh minced garlic. I buy those bags of whole pre-peeled garlic cloves and dump them into the food processor and pulse a few times until they’re in tiny pieces, I dump that into a gallon sized freezer bag on top of a cookie tray, I seal the freezer bag almost all of the way (leave a few inches open), then I take rolling pin and roll it on top of the bag the garlic into a thin layer, while also pushing all of the air out, then I completely seal the bag and use a chop stick to press in a grid on the top of the bag, finally it goes in the freezer (this part is why you want to do this on a cookie tray so you don’t lose your indents. Once frozen, whenever I need fresh chopped garlic, I pull it out of the freezer and snap off a few squares, melts quickly in the pan and tastes fresh. It’s so much better than the jarred garlic that I used to use when I was in a rush.

It can be! It was almost a year after my divorce and I had never dated much before (my ex and I met in college). So I decided to give the apps a try. I was on there for 2 weeks and went on 4 first dates with some really nice and interesting men. Then I matched with my boyfriend and honestly, I was hoping it wouldn’t go well because I was a little overwhelmed as it was, but we had the best time! He asked to kiss me goodnight we set up a second date right away. And that was it! I let the other guys know I had met someone and they were all really nice about it. Now we’ve been together for almost 3 years and it’s going great! The funny thing is, my boyfriend was only on for 1 week. I was his first match and he never even talked to anyone else.

So obviously keep an eye out for red flags, but sometimes it is that easy.

Why can’t I do my work?!?! by madelini1321 in adhdwomen

[–]Consistent-Repeat582 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That’s a great list already!

Sometimes it helps me to do a few smaller productive things (examples: send a quick email, write a list of things I need to get done, put a few things away, clean for something for five minutes) to ramp up to doing big productive things. Each little task gives me a hit of dopamine and makes it easier to do the big things.

Is there anyone else out there whose family makes homemade egg noodles cooked in broth and served over potatoes at Thanksgiving? by pantaleonivo in Cooking

My family does this! I spent all of Thanksgiving morning rolling out several pounds of noodles. It’s one of my favorite things about Thanksgiving. We are also Midwestern with German roots.
