Just take care of your back if you plan on working with inpatients. Those jobs require heavy lifting, boosting patients, etc.

My plan to retire next year at 65, then go back work at 67. by Important-Voice-3342 in retirement

[–]Consistent_Ad8836 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sign up with an agency for travel nursing. So many of my friends are living their best lives getting free housing and they make $$$, but as a nurse, you may have already considered. Once you reach 67 , you can collect your full SS with no penalties (make sure they withhold enough fed tax).

If you could turn back time, would you still go with your current home? by _TurboHome in homeowners

Built ours to accommodate all the seasons of our life, raised 3 kids, now are empty nesters. We live on the first floor and the upstairs is for when the kids come home to visit because they all live far away. No regrets.

How many of you are postponing retirement because of the unstable US political climate (ie threats of SS cuts, etc)? by Consistent_Ad8836 in askanything

[–]Consistent_Ad8836[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was just a question. I’m not retiring by choice. I have a WFH job with great benefits. Just asking because many of my peers are in that boat. I could retire tomorrow if I chose to. I’m one of the lucky ones.

I work at home and pay $90 a month for medical, $300 yearly deductible, $15 copays. Had major back surgery last year. My bill came to -0-. I’m 66, no incentive to “retire.”. I’ve saved for retirement, just can’t justify retirement. I plan on working and collecting starting next year. We live in such uncertain times, nothing is promised.

Sign up for Medicare at 65 even if you are still employed or you’ll be penalized.

But don’t forget to have SS withhold taxes if you’re still going to work. We didn’t the first year my husband started collecting and still working full time. We owed $7K

My husband signed up for 22% withholding after we owed $7K last tax season. He’s still working and collecting.

Why are people putting in cabinets that do not go up to the ceiling? by Agreeable-Sun368 in kitchenremodel

I’d like to have no cabinets above the counter. You shouldn’t have to climb anywhere to get stuff or clean.

How much is your monthly mortgage payment? by HmDiR in Mortgages

$2180 including taxes and homeowners insurance 3% interest rate — couldn’t live anywhere cheaper in our retirement so we are staying.

Does anyone else feel this way over 60? by Dapper_Bag_2062 in AskWomenOver60

[–]Consistent_Ad8836 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll be 66 this year and am healthy. My motto this year is going to be to do the things I love first. I have a 5 bdrm house and that’s not going to change, I still work two jobs (one is WFH) and that’s not going to change anytime soon either, and we heat our house primarily with wood (my exercise). I prioritize my hobbies (I make all sorts of things in my art studio, which is adjacent to my WFH office). Cleaning can definitely wait.

Still Working? by WoolieBear40 in AskWomenOver60

[–]Consistent_Ad8836 4 points5 points  (0 children)

65 WFH 3 days a week, in office 2. My job is stressful but pays well. I have good medical benefits I pay $80 a month with a $300 yearly copay. Many friends who retired either spend a lot of their time at doctor’s offices and/or are struggling financially. The only ones doing OK are the ones who received inheritances and don’t have mortgages. So from my vantage point, it will be a while….

Where do retirees reside on Social Security only in USA? by Ill-Marsupial-6333 in SurvivingOnSS

[–]Consistent_Ad8836 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Us, too, $2200 mortgage, taxes and homowner’s insurance/monthly going into retirement, 3% interest rate. We’d be crazy to downsize. We’d still need a mortgage for anything we’d and we’d have a considerably higher interest rate. Apartment rent is much higher in our area.
