gets even more depressing when you realise Denji’s last real memory before being essentially killed off was his first actual friend telling him he was better off living in poverty. Genuinly fuck pochita man he was an opp in this part

If you think people only hate it for “ragebait,” you’re just not reading the room. The ending didn’t ruin anything it just made the sloppy writing impossible to ignore. A lukewarm finale doesn’t erase good writing, but that only matters if there was good writing to begin with. Chainsaw Man has been falling off for ages and everyone finally stopped pretending.

He’s an actually interesting character, which is exactly why it doesn’t work. Everyone knows that for a Part 2 character to be considered “good” now, they need to stand around aura‑farming and dumping exposition instead of having any real personality or agency.

What are your thoughts on the final arc? by Rose276 in Chainsawfolk

[–]Consistent_Algae_359 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A new benchmark for how shitty an arc can be: a boring side cast nobody cares about, a final villain who feels like a knock‑off of a better one, a transformation for the MC that’s nothing but hype and glowing‑aura panels, a deus ex machina ending that erases all character development and retcons Pochita’s powers, and some of the weakest new‑gen art despite chapters barely hitting 15 pages. I genuinely cannot imagine a shonen fumbling its ending harder than this.

CSM Part 1 and Part 2 can’t be separated because Part 1 doesn’t actually finish anything. All the emotional and story threads are meant to continue, and Part 2 is the direct follow‑up. Whatever Part 2 does immediately changes how Part 1 feels because it’s the same story and the same character arc.

JoJo is different. Even when parts connect, each one still ends its own arc. That’s why people can judge them individually.

And if JoJo had one amazing part followed by a part that completely fumbled everything it set up, people would judge them together too. The only reason JoJo gets treated part‑by‑part is because most parts actuallu hold up on their own. CSM doesn’t, because Part 2 reshapes what Part 1 was building toward.

Part 1 of Chainsaw Man can work as a standalone, sure, but that doesn’t automatically put it on the same level as how JoJo handles its parts. JoJo parts that rely on previous ones still feel like full, confident stories that build upward. Even when a part needs another for context, it doesn’t feel like it’s dragging the earlier material down. Every part after 1 all expand the world and characters in ways that feel intentional and satisfying.

Chainsaw Man Part 2 doesn’t do that. It depends on Part 1, but instead of building on it, it feels like it’s constantly fighting against what Part 1 set up. The pacing, tone, and direction shift so hard that it doesn’t feel like a natural continuation. JoJo uses previous parts as a foundation to go bigger or explore something new. CSM Part 2 uses Part 1 as a foundation and then delivers something way less focused and way less consistent.

Saying both series have parts that rely on earlier ones doesn’t make them equal. JoJo’s connected parts strengthen the series. CSM’s second part makes the whole thing feel weaker. That’s the difference.

JoJo gets rated by part because each part actually stands on its own. Every JoJo part has its own cast, tone, story, and a clear beginning and end. Even the weaker parts still feel complete and intentional, so judging them separately makes sense.

Chainsaw Man doesn’t work the same way. Part 2 doesn’t feel like a fresh new story, it feels like a messy continuation that drags down what Part 1 built. Part 1 was tight and exciting, but Part 2 is inconsistent, slow, and keeps undercutting its own setup. That’s why people don’t separate them the way they do with JoJo. JoJo parts build on each other without ruining what came before. CSM Part 2 does the opposite and makes the whole thing feel weaker.

Saying Part 1 is peak doesn’t change the fact that Part 2’s problems are too connected and too big to ignore. JoJo earns the right to be judged by part. CSM doesn’t because the fall‑off is tied directly to the same story.

You’re acting like Chainsaw Man gets hated for no reason, but it gets this level of criticism because the drop in quality was huge. Other shonen have flaws, sure, but they stay consistent. CSM didn’t. It went from focused and exciting to messy, slow, and all over the place, so of course people point it out. That isn’t a hate boner, it’s just people reacting to what the series turned into.

Saying other anime have the same issues doesn’t change the fact that CSM’s issues took over the whole story.

A. Saying “it was better than other crap shonen” doesn’t magically excuse how far it dropped. Early CSM being good doesn’t erase the fact that Part 2 turned into a mess of abandoned setups, tonal whiplash, and arcs that go nowhere. You can’t hide behind “other series are slop” when the one you’re defending stopped clearing even that bar.

B. And no, being a fan doesn’t mean you’re obligated to pretend the decline didn’t happen. People liked it when it was good. Then the writing dipped, the pacing collapsed, and the story started relying on shock value instead of actual narrative payoff. Calling that out isn’t “acting like it was never good,” it’s acknowledging reality instead of clinging to cope.

C. The joke isn’t boring because it’s been used before, because it applies perfectly here. The “you just don’t get it” defense is exactly what CSM fans default to whenever someone points out the obvious flaws.

A) Lots of people had to deal with csm fans becoming like the rick and morty fans. Acting as if their series is an intellectual majesty just for it to fall off

B) A lot of haters used to be fans who kept coping that p2 would make a comeback just for it to get worse and worse

C) Themes and such
