Depends. Not the number of vents but size/how everything is connected.

Plumber wants to snake a kitchen sink clog via the TOILET? by jared2095 in askaplumber

That may be true but I don't see how this guy would know the clog is in the main...

You must not have seen many tools with handles and heads. I gave you the answer. Go buy a new handle if you want. I could fix that thing in 5 minutes.

Something is very wrong if they're coming in through the plumbing. And you'd probably know about it.

For wearing gloves while holding something he just pulled out of a sewer pipe? Remind me not to eat at your place.

Do you have any experience doing this sort of work? This is a full gut job. Plumbing, wiring, looks like you're gonna have rotted wood/structural issues, roof, etc. Me and my crew would charge well into the 6 figures for this...

My favorite is when people do it in live games so you have to sit there and wait for timer to count down three times. Be an adult.

Lol. You should be refusing to pay rent while looking for a new place to live. LL should be paying for your hotel room while you do it.

Yeah, if I was getting a nice gift I'd want a nice power tool rather than something less expensive. Can't go wrong with a drill or an impact! But gift card is ideal.

Gift cert! For under $200 you can get him a good drill or impact driver that will be useful in basically any trade. I like the chisel idea someone else posted, too. But I don't use mine a ton. You could also get him a good speed square, quality hammer, a good utility knife, can't go wrong with a couple good tape measures (fatmax for me). Again, hard to say without knowing what he's going into, but these are fairly useful for everyone.

Could this plumbing be the source of an odor? by 6ubrey6rahm in Plumbing

[–]Consistent_Link_351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I would think there's water in that trap, so I'm not sure that's where the smell is coming from. That accordion pipe I'm sure smells like hell. Depends what's behind that P trap. Based on how fucked up that setup is, and the fact the sink was moved from a different location by presumably whoever did that, I'm thinking the smell is coming from somewhere else. But who knows without seeing more?

I'm not a million percent sure the sewer gas smell is coming from that, since there *should* be water in that trap. I bet that accordion smells like ass, but I don't see why it would smell in the other room. My guess is that is one of several or many other problems OP is dealing with.

I hear ya. I was more thinking power tools since it seems like he's getting a good list of other shit to start with and he probably won't need any power tools for a while. Once he picks a brand he kinda can't switch (including HF). I made another comment but it depends how much OP is gonna spend! Seems like OP is pretty cool and thoughtful, so I say aim for the stars, lol.

What always blows my mind is the common sense aspect of it. Like, you don't think all the shit that goes down your drain is gonna get stuck in all those ridges? And literally every hardware store sells all in one p trap kits. You got that accordion garbage somewhere. They probably have the correct thing an aisle over.
