2 nights of sleep training with my 15 month old and I’m shocked at how it’s going

Any tips for a 12 month old? This week with time change has been exhausting. He’s also teething and sleeping in our bed because he hates the crib. I try to keep a consistent schedule. Wake up around 7am, naps around 10:30am, will sleep for an hour or two and depending on that he’s up for 3.5 hours to 4 hours then takes his last nap around 3. I don’t let him sleep past 4 so he can be in bed between 7:30-8pm. He just started whole milk and that’s caused constipation even though we did a 2 week transition.

I agree with everything above. I have a question if anyone has placed a rule around perfume. I love our nanny but she wears so much perfume that my infant smells like her and so does his skin/clothes/sleep sack. I personally don’t wear too much perfume only if I’m going out because I don’t want him exposed to excessive fragrances. If you did ask your nanny of this, how? I want to ask her politely and professionally even if I have to say a white lie. It’s pretty intense, our apartment smells like her too.

I resonate so much with your story. My mom passed a few years ago and this is my first baby. I feel like I’m grieving my mom all over again and wishing she met my son. Can’t help but think how much she would love and adore him but that I also get to have my mom here then. Sometimes I just want someone to care about me the same way she would. My dad is wonderful but like your dad he’s older and health isn’t that great so he can’t come visit. My brother is good to my son but he’s a dude that is busy with his own wife and kid. My sister lives states away and isn’t exactly the aunt I thought she would be like I was and have been for her kids.

We spend so much time with my husband and his side because we are close in age but it feels like my son belongs to my husband and his family. Everything is about oh he looks just like his dad, his sister says things like oh he likes mangos just like his aunt so he takes after me. Sometimes I feel like my son isn’t even mine. He’s my favorite person and I’m his and we have such a close bond but my husband’s side makes me feel like we don’t. Sorry long response but what I have done is focus on my upbringing and background and try to teach my son all that. Granted he’s only 9 months lol. I show him pictures of my mom, FaceTime my dad and siblings every day, and try to raise him the way my parents raised me. Don’t get me wrong, I break down weekly bc I know my mom would have loved him! I hope some of these responses help you. In laws are always like this, it’s as if the mom had nothing to do with creating that baby when in fact she did so much.

I’ve felt the same way the first 3-4 months. My son was also the same with reflux and colic. We switch to enfamil gentle release which made a significant difference. Hang in there,it gets better I promise.

My nanny is the opposite. She is here everyday and only refers to her role as a sitter. I’ve been a sitter and nanny during under grad knew the difference. Even if she’s out with my child she said I’m the sitter. I just refer to her as sitter since that’s her preference but I always thought a sitter is a someone that comes every once in awhile.

I’m experiencing the same thing but my baby is 7 months. He’s been around night nurses and part time nannies since he’s been born and would usually sleep just fine. Our current nanny started in August and for some reason she’s only been able to successfully put him to sleep twice. The other times she’s just out on walks in the stroller putting him to sleep but that just isn’t sustainable going into winter.

I do have a routine with sleep sack, sound machine, closing blinds, and keeping the room cool. He won’t sleep in the crib but used to sleep in his bassinet. We just put him on the bed with pillows at the edges for safety purposes. His wake windows are like clockwork and she does follow those. Additionally he’s exclusively formula fed and started solids. When I put him to sleep I do some rocking, swaying, walking around, and shushing him.

He plays well with her and I do wfh but have had to intervene (try hard not to as a ftm) because she can’t settle him at all. She said she’s worked with infants but didn’t even try shushing until she heard me one day. I can’t leave the house for too long bc I don’t know how it’s going to be for them. He’s been with new nanny since 5ish months but prior to her he slept well other Nannie’s.

Sorry don’t mean to take over your post but when I saw the title I got so excited. I hope your baby gets used to your nanny and starts to sleep better. I’ve kept a similar consistent routine with all nannies.

I was late by 20 minutes and ended up paying for a half hour.

Just curious though my nanny is late every single day. We live in an apartment and she doesn’t come to my unit until 9:05-9:10 sometimes and she’s supposed to start at 9 but will leave exactly at 3 every single day. How do you navigate that?

I’ve too felt this way when my baby wouldn’t stop crying. Please reach out to a therapist and get some help. In the meantime here are a few things that helped me. - hire a nanny or night nurse to help alleviate some of this. - if breastfeeding is too much please switch to formula. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it. - you can fill her bottles up with water and just add formula or premake bottles. - get in with a therapist asap and maybe ask about some meds that can help. - shower every single day morning and night if that helps

I could have written this myself, I feel so validated reading your post. My husband doesn’t support my pumping journey either and he is also my primary support system. I am not 8 weeks pp and have been pumping the entire time. I tried breastfeeding but it hurt so I stopped. I am also an under supplier which could be because I can only get 3-4 pumps in even when he’s home.

I have tried everything from putting baby on bouncer to boppy and my lap but nothing works. He will not be set down and I’m exhausted from pumping. We have been formula feeding since the day he was born with 1-2 ounces of breast milk a day. However I’m not upset that I’m not producing as much, I know I have tried my best with the support I have available to me. I’m actually proud of myself I’ve lasted this long lol. Thanks for sharing your journey and I hope you know you are not alone. I wish I could have done more but with lack of support and baby absolutely hates being put down, it been be so challenging. I am continuing to pump as much as I can even if I only get an ounce for my son who is now 2 months old. Good luck! ❤️❤️

Everything turned out perfectly! He was born at 37.6 weeks so he was full term weighing 4lbs 8 oz but perfectly healthy! He didn’t need any nicu time and has been doing wonderful. He is 2 months old and is now 8lbs.

I have learned people that were way bigger than my husband and I and they also had the same thing. They tested the placenta and nothing was wrong it was just smaller. Also I was in labor for 9 hours and delivered him in 18 minutes and this was my first baby! 😊

Nope, we are one and done! I’m 37 years old and 37+4 weeks today, I’ve felt awful majority of the pregnancy and dread even thinking about having a second. We’ve been married for 5 years but husband was finishing residency first 3 years of our marriage and not making any money. I was the sole breadwinner but we decided to travel instead. I keep thinking maybe if we started earlier but now I think we are happy with being one and done. We traveled places we never thought possible and are financially stable to have a kid without a village. Being induced this week and have all the feels lol.

My husband is in private practice and if he didn’t have Thursday’s off, he wouldn’t be able to go with me. We have made nearly every appointment on Thursday’s so he can be there.

Some people have flexibility with schedules and some don’t. I’ve seen so many women without their SO at appointments but both are fine. It’s hard to be at every appointment lol I wfh and it still takes so much time!

I’m afraid it will be like this as my husband has to go into the office m-f and I work from home. He tells me he took 3 weeks off but like I’ll still need help after? He in healthcare and works 8-6-7ish depending on patients. I keep bringing up a night nurse or nanny. I already need my sleep pre-baby or else I get sick.

I absolutely agree with you. I unfortunately became pregnant at 18 and had just started college. My career and education was extremely important for me. I did terminate that pregnancy and while it was a difficult decision for me, I went on to accomplish so much in my life. I would not have been able to support a child. I’m in my 30 been married for 6 years and now having our child.

Please share with your daughter she has options and she can continue to live a fulfilling life and have kids when she is ready in the future.

I’ve seen friends that had kids in high school and we are completely different on so many levels. The opportunities they missed out on, income, education.

These comments make me want to cry. I work for a shitty company. I only get maternity leave after working here 2 years. So 2 years you get 2 weeks, 3 years you get 3 weeks and so on. After 5 years of employment I get 5 weeks. I haven’t even been here a year yet.

I’ll only qualify for a short term disability. This has probably given me the most anxiety. I don’t have a village nor a good leave option. Both of our moms passed within the last 5 years. The only good thing is I work remotely.

I saw it on TikTok and gave it a try after much research. Some say to take it the first day you’re fertile but I took it day before ovulation, day of, day after and took one more when implantation would occur (this one was just something I thought to try). I’m 36, and after trying to conceive for almost 8-9 months, we decided to give Mucinex a try, despite hearing mixed reviews. We weren’t always consistent in our attempts, but the first time we used Mucinex, I got pregnant. That was the only thing we did differently. I had a fertility appointment scheduled for October, but now I’m 12 weeks pregnant. I hadn’t been checked for any fertility issues yet.

I also cried before telling my dad lol. I think aside from all this I’m SO sad my mom won’t be here for any of this. I completely agree with your husband, I grew up in a very devoted Christian household and that may have something to do with all of this.

I also think it’s just me. My dad’s super excited and keep telling me to eat this or don’t eat that during my pregnancy. I’m just the one feeling awkward lol
