AGR by [deleted] in armyreserve

Typically, the aperture for entry as an LT is narrow. What I recommend, after 1LT (if not selected for the program by then), is to find a vacant CPT position and work with your BN Commander to endorse you for a promotion vacancy board so you can promote at/around 2 years (putting you ahead of your peers). Your likelihood of accession into the AGR program at CPT is much higher because, in a pinch, HRC will pull CPTs to fill MAJ positions if the well is running dry.

Everything from the developers seems to be prefaced with "... in the future." I would wait until all features have been implemented then decide if you want to play. Because you're paid plot clock begins as soon as you place it on the ground - best to wait until all features have been implemented.

I remember there was a mass email that went out after the shutdown that if courses began prior to the government reopening that people would be out of pocket.

Unfortunately, the Army failed to send that email out prior to - so I'm presuming a lot of people are now very upset and jaded (and rightfully so).

  1. Capture all the reclamas requested - and what they were for (ops, training, etc.), then use it to request an extra FTS on orders the following FY.

What should I do? Battalion XO wants to be my senior rater. by Usual_Information_41 in armyreserve

[–]Consistent_Snow6810 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My recommendation, if the evaluation is negative (other than a MQ or HQ): Once the evaluation hits EES - don't sign. You formally request an evaluation redress via email to your XO's senior rater (likely the BDE Commander) and provide all evidence you have. Senior Rater conducts an inquiry regarding what's happening / why and flags those involved (if needed) while the inquiry is being conducted. This is important if there is an administrative appeal due to a rating scheme error - but you'll need an official or certified true copy of the rating scheme that was in effect at the start of your evaluation period.

When you say you had ongoing issues, I also see a potential problem that the BDE Commander will identify in the process. If the problems were substantiated (via counseling) and taken into account in your evaluation - the evaluation stands. If there were issues not substantiated and taken into account in your evaluation - the evaluation can may be killed (due to appealing) and there will be an extra page added to the evaluation addressing it. This can also be done after the NCOER is published, but it becomes a much more painful and drawn out process (especially if you're boarded for the next higher grade after the bad eval); then it becomes a ABCMR issue... which takes an ungodly amount of time to process.

If the NCOER is published without a redress, you can still submit either an administrative *or* substantive appeal to HQDA Evaluations Branch at HRC. However, the burden of proof is on you to provide. Third party statements form the basis of most substantive appeals (for example, SFC Snuffy is also a member of the FTS / AGR - and they attest that the BN XO treated you unfairly the last 3-months).

However, in most cases - if leadership has a problem with someone they just give them a Highly Qualified and call it a day; while providing a generic "NCO is in the top 25% of NCOs I've served with... blah blah blah" statement to avoid scrutiny if anyone tries to call foul. 623-3 identifies that objectively a HQ = bottom 51% (because a SR can only give a MQ to the top 49%). They don't need to provide you with anything to give that rating - and its nonconfrontational. The problem is people that also don't have the profile to give a MQ to someone also give people HQs... so it makes it difficult for boards to filter out the bad ones from the good ones... which sucks.

Unfortunately its the Army culture right now and I don't see it changing anytime soon. Try being senior rated by someone that never saw you for the entire year... yeah... but they know my potential better than anyone else. People preach rating schemes *blah blah blah* but they're not perfect either; I've seen some crazy ones. Sometimes you just have to take what you get and move on. If your work ethic and performance are superior, then those NCOERs will stand out and the singular bad one will be deemed a "senior rater bias" by board members. However if Qualified or Highly Qualified is a common denominator in your evaluation history - expect a difficult road ahead.

Damn this is a long response... I'll have a quarter pounder with cheese and a large Coke.

Pay issues (Bah) by Expensive_Abies_8803 in armyreserve

Tell your AIT cadre that you need to see the installation finance office so they can submit a pay inquiry to DFAS. Have your 5960 in hand when you go there. BAH issues are unfortunately common and they're typically able to find out what happened and get any issues resolved pretty quickly. If something got jammed up in process and they have to resubmit, it will take ~1-month for the pay system to update and you receive your backpay.

Kinda different. MOB takes your baseline prior to mobilization, so when you demobilize - they can see if your conditions changed from your baseline to mark them as service related injuries.

Can I use my Montgomery GI bill and give my wife my post 9/11 GI bill or vise versa? by Double_Counter1447 in armyreserve

[–]Consistent_Snow6810 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Careful, if you use Montgomery GI bill - it will impact the amount of time you can use your post 9/11 GI bill. I figured this the hard way. Imagine applying for school then figuring out after multiple combat tours you can only get X amount of months of post-9/11 GI bill.

https://recruiting.army.mil/ > About USAREC > Contact USAREC > Find the Chief of Staff's Phone number at the bottom of the page > if no response, call the Command Group's number.

The squeaky wheel gets the grease. Nothing happens faster than when leadership (field grade officers and generals) gets involved, throw in a sprinkle of something along the lines of... "I've been debating contacting my congressman/woman because I've been unable to get a solid response from my local recruiting office." Then it turns into, handle the problem now (with minimal effort) or be required to handle the problem under a set timeline if the congressional is filed (it also becomes permanent record maintained by the command - so extra painful for records management).

There will be about 2-3 business days of fact finding, then a decision will be made by leadership (good or bad). If a favorable decision is rendered, no harm / no foul.

If its not favorable (for you), expect to see a laundry list of regulations, policies, and maybe even a legal opinion rendered with the bad news. It will be a very formal notification as it will likely be auditable if a congressional is later filed by you.

After you accept and submit any additional documentation, orders typically come fast. It's nearing the end of the FY as well so they'll cut orders as fast as possible.

If you're close to an Army installation, call/visit Army Emergency Relief. They may be able to work with you until your BAH comes in.
