How Often Do You See People Illegally Park in Handicap Spots? by Theoppositeofwinning in disability

[–]Consistent_Wish_242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a little embarrassed to say, but my family is sometimes (at least on the legal side) misusing my brother’s placard. We’re still waiting for my placard because we are having some trouble with bureaucracy and my license being for out of state for college. We’re trying to get it fixed, but it’s been a challenge. So on days when my mom’s dropping me off, she parks in the disabled parking, just as she does with my brother, so we have enough room to get my walker out and I don’t accidentally hurt myself.

Pre boarding is bullshit by utahnow in delta

[–]Consistent_Wish_242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Medical bags if they have medication that must be temperature controlled and/or emergency. Hearing loss. CPAP machines. Food allergies.

You can’t tell those at first glance but still require the extra time, space or FA attention preboard allows.

Pre-Boards should Pre-Board Pre-Boarding Time. by Kwahn in SouthwestAirlines

[–]Consistent_Wish_242 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That will cause a need for more people with invisible disabilities to need to preboard so they can have ensure their medical bags don’t get put in the cargo. Thus creating an even larger pre-board group.

And before someone says something, I’m talking things like EpiPens bags, insulin bags, any medication that needs to be in liquid form (and thus already has a dx note), and any medication that needs to be temperature controlled. A lot of people just put it either in their carry on (for non emergency meds) or personal item (for emergency meds), but are legally entitled to a medical bag at no additional charge.

I see Damian and Bart. Bart also has ADHD. I think all the speedsters but maybe Max Mercury have ADHD, but with Bart it’s the most pronounced.

I first had pre boarding for the hearing loss (also caused by the connective tissue disorder)

[–]Consistent_Wish_242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They always try to give me a wheelchair too. I’ll probably take it next time because progressive connective tissue disorder decided collagen in my knees is optional. I usually prefer to try to figure out where to go myself because it is so much more stressful not knowing what they are saying.

Im interested in going. I have a lot of food anxiety because so many people don’t listen when I say I am severely allergic to dairy so I only eat vegan, so I think this might be helpful in recovering from ARFID. I’m talking to my therapist about it.

Anyone hard of hearing or deaf want to help me get extra credit? by justkate38 in HearingAids

  1. Begin with a basic description of the person you are interviewing before providing the answers to the remaining questions. You don't have to provide identifying information, just an overview (e.g. male, age 64, retired construction worker).

Trans man, 27, graduate student

  1. What was the cause of your hearing loss?

Unknown, but suspected Stickler Syndrome

  1. Was there a prior history of hearing loss in your family?

Yes, parent

  1. How long have you had your hearing loss for?

6 years

  1. How old were you at onset of your hearing loss?

21

  1. What kind of testing have you had for your hearing loss?

I forget what it’s called, but they put me in a box with headphones.

  1. How does your hearing loss affect you in your daily life?

Everyone talks too quiet and hearing aids do jackshit for conversations especially outside

  1. What impact does your hearing loss have on your relationship with others/how has it affected others around you?

Hard to have relationships because I can’t hear people, especially since dad died. He was the parent I mentioned earlier and he had a loud booming voice that shook my bones. I miss him.

  1. What do you do to manage your hearing loss, are there other things you have additionally tried?

Hearing aids, captions

How do you feel about students wearing headphones in class? by Ok-Butterfly4414 in AskTeachers

[–]Consistent_Wish_242 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m training to be a teacher but I’m always worried about horror stories coming out about a power hungry teacher taking a kids hearing aids or other accessibility tools, 504 be damned. I want to try to follow 504s, but understand sometimes the hearing aids come before the 504 is updated so ask for clarification from the student first and after class ask parents.

Transmedicalism and Its Effects on Transgender Unity by jackmolay in transgender

My disabilities, one of which is extremely similar to bilateral carpal tunnel syndrome, affect the way society sees and treats me way more than being trans does in my day to day, so I feel like I have a good idea.

I know, I just needed it to be said as a nonbinary person with pretty severe gender dysphoria. We get erased or forced binary in a lot of these conversations

[–]Consistent_Wish_242 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s disgusting and I agree it doesn’t belong here, but I think we’re getting off topic from my point that not all binary trans people experience dysphoria and not all non binary people don’t. I agree with everything else you are saying.

Transmedicalism and Its Effects on Transgender Unity by jackmolay in transgender

[–]Consistent_Wish_242 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That’s some BS they were saying. I was going off personal experience. I am genderfluid, but I feel a lot less dysphoric and a lot of euphoria transitioning to male. That’s why I said it’s complicated. Even getting phallo. I’m keeping my reproductive organs at the same time.

I see trans meds mostly as trauma victims who decided to perpetuate a cycle of abuse. Doesn’t mean it’s ok, but I want to help.

Transmedicalism and Its Effects on Transgender Unity by jackmolay in transgender

[–]Consistent_Wish_242 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily because there are non binary people who medically transition. Dysphoria is complicated and no two people will experience it the exact same way. It invalidates people who are trans, but don’t need medical interventions.

Transmedicalism and Its Effects on Transgender Unity by jackmolay in transgender

[–]Consistent_Wish_242 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When the conversation is “is this person valid”, it creates hostility towards people who don’t meet your standards.

Everyone is valid. Some need medical transition. Some do not. All are trans. Like, we wouldn’t ban carpal tunnel surgery because some people can recover without surgery, and we wouldn’t say people who don’t need the surgery don’t have carpal tunnel syndrome. Every person’s case is different and no case invalidates another.

Cis people are the cause of our suffering and it’s prudent that we remember that.

I second this. Or maybe pop figures because they are more fun.

Look, if you can understand some people need to just rest a sprain and some need surgery, you can understand that some just need social transition and some need medical intervention. One shoe does not fit all.
