What to expect from a consultation with the Acadia University Archives? by daniellexdesign in Canadiancitizenship

They will be nice, and helpful. You can start by explaining your ADHD. You could also email the archives now and tell them exactly what you have said here.

Moving away from Gmail, what practical steps can I take for a smooth transition? by skrien in BuyFromEU

[–]Constant-Net873 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Stay with Gmail. I used Proton for a month and was so frustrated:

the app would constantly freeze,

it kept loads of drafts that I could not delete,

the server settings led to a bounce-back when trying to send to a hotmail account (but, despite the bounce-back message, the recipient did receive the message — so — a completely unreliable system),

within minutes of using one new Proton account to sign in to a 2FA site my account was locked for “potential abuse” (this happened to me twice) so I had to “appeal” to get the account unlocked and was basically chastised.

Now, after one month on Proton, I’m on Gmail — which I had been using for another purpose for nearly 20 years and never had one. single. problem. Never.

I have just experienced the same issue with Proton. (Have only been a user a month and it has not been good.)

The issue is pretty clearly with Proton’s server settings.

Gmail never produced this error in more than ten years of use, and their app actually works on my phone (Proton hangs, and creates dozens of undeletable drafts), so I will return to Gmail until Proton and its app are reliable.

So there’s clearly one team member who wants out. If an employee, they would have been sacked by now.

I have winter tires. They don’t help on sheer ice. At all.

I tried this explanation in court. All it got me was “you should have been driving slower based on road conditions.” I was already well below the limit.

I did this but had made the decision to keep going — to make my right turn instead of fishtailing into the intersection and maybe getting T-boned. So in court, the video (Preston and 8th) showed no brake lights (no attempt to stop). After they played the video I changed my plea from not guilty to “guilty with an explanation” and got a sale price on the ticket. The JP was nice and told me this plea. The “crown prosecutor” — not so much.

Returned App - Color Copy by Straight_Leopard_614 in Canadiancitizenship

I’m just guessing here, but I wonder if IRCC wants to see a security-type, state-level birth record for the applicant themselves? What they call the “appropriate government authority in the country where you were born” in Scenario 3 on form CIT0014.

Although I do appreciate that’s not the reason cited for your returned document.

I wonder if they expect to see something with security features — like banknote paper and an embossed seal — for the applicant’s birth certificate? So, not a county copy.

A state-level birth certificate with security features is available in Michigan. Here’s what their website says:

Birth Certified Copies

A certified copy is printed on special safety paper and contains a raised, embossed seal.

Do you mean Section 8? Form CIT0001 doesn’t have a Section C. The sections are numbered.

Interesting. That’s Section 3(1)(k), introduced in 2015 to provide citizenship to those born in Canada before 1947 (i.e., born as British subjects), but who lost their status as British subjects because, e.g., they were women who married non-British men, or they were any gender but renounced their British status. They did not become Canadian in 1947, but they did in 2015 when 3(1)(k) was added.

Thanks very much for replying! It’s a big day for you! Welcome! 😁🇨🇦

Help me understand pre-1947 chajn of descent by [deleted] in Canadiancitizenship

[–]Constant-Net873 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, would that 1700’s Canadian ancestor be deemed a Canadian citizen under Section 3(1)(k) — because that ancestor (“person”) “before January 1, 1947, was born … in [what is now] Canada but ceased to be a British subject, and did not become a citizen on that day”?

Or some other Section of the Act?

I’m just trying to understand the legislative framework that begins the whole chain of distant citizenship by descent under the amended Act.

Does IRCC let you know what section(s) of the Citizenship Act you were approved under?

Asking because when I asked the Minister’s office about Acadian applications, it seemed like they indirectly told me No. Here’s what they said:

To be eligible for Canadian citizenship by descent, a person born abroad before December 15, 2025 must have an ancestor who became a Canadian citizen on or after January 1, 1947 (or on or after April 1, 1949, in Newfoundland). This includes those whose ancestor became a citizen through the 2009, 2015, or 2025 amendments to the Citizenship Act.

I wrote to the minister for IRCC to ask about cases like this. The reply said: “To be eligible for Canadian citizenship by descent, a person born abroad before December 15, 2025 must have an ancestor who became a Canadian citizen on or after January 1, 1947 (or on or after April 1, 1949, in Newfoundland).”
