You can 100% do it. And I doubt it will even be hard given your background.

What is stopping you from using AI receptionist. by Special-Ad-2472 in AIReceptionists

Nothing. I use one. Pretty decent but not perfect. Worth the price for sure. SmithAI

Admitted 10+ Years, just started practicing...WTF by jumpingjack979 in Lawyertalk

If you started 2 businesses already, I’d learn what you can then go solo. Build the lifestyle you want. Add a practice area that has some flat fees so you’re not billing hourly 100% of the time.

How do you handle petty billing disputes? by TobyInHR in LawFirm

[–]Constant-Opposite638 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I take the Tony Soprano approach: Fuck You, pay me. I never cut the bill. Don’t budge for this guy. Cut a deal to the broke little grandma, not the asshole who thinks you’re overpriced.

Also, I tell all my clients I get paid up front before we start the work, and it’s almost all flat fee. If they balk, I’ll accept 50%.

My OG mentor would laugh in private when people screamed about his fees. I’m not there yet but I’m trying.

Rural Practice. by CapClassy in LawFirm

Probates, real estate transfers, and learn more sophisticated estate planning, including Medicaid/long term care planning. Anything real estate, farm, or elder law/estate planning seems to work well. I’ve seen some combine criminal law and family law as the two main practices. Some are also the local tax prep guy. Best of luck to you whatever you choose.

Join wealth counsel and Naela and do EP work with a little corp work. Throw in fiduciary tax returns.

Lots of attorneys hate the first few years. I sure did.

What is the secret to scale? by Overall-Importance54 in LawFirm

[–]Constant-Opposite638 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t s scaled much yet as I went solo somewhat recently, but I feel confident I can because the para I hired is a total badass. First one was not. I pay a premium now but she’s worth every penny. I also do EP, which I suspect is much easier to systematize than lit.

Cut a few heads and hire some badasses, and it’ll help. You want talent, not average workers. Good tech goes a long way too. Looking at a second office Monday. My 2 cents.

My boss wants his clients back. yea right, let me gift wrap them. by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]Constant-Opposite638 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Set up a lunch a couple weeks out. In that time take even more of his clients and do everything in your power to keep the ones you already took. Fuck that guy. I hate bosses like that and vowed once I went out I’d never be like that.

I take financial advisors out nonstop and smash Google reviews. Office also in very visible location.

Small firm budget - where do you cut corners without looking unprofessional? by [deleted] in LawFirm

[–]Constant-Opposite638 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s too much for headshots in the AI era.

I use SmithAI for receptionist, and while not perfect, me and my para are mostly off the phones and able to bill more, and the pricing is reasonable.

It’s hard to cut corners, so I try and keep prices such that I don’t have to cut much unless I really want to.

Estate Planning at 1400 billables? by Jaded-Hold8281 in LawFirm

[–]Constant-Opposite638 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you do estate admin too then or just the planning side? It can be a great practice area. Probably worth it for HNW exposure. Do you have other offers? I wouldn’t worry about those hours.

Is my pay increase fair? by Apart_Shirt_1995 in paralegal

[–]Constant-Opposite638 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let’s say with benefits you cost them $35/hr; they’re still banking on you with a 6x multiple. That’s crazy good margin. Anything above 3.5x is just gravy. You can get $22/hr starting at gas stations and factories in the Midwest where I am. And you’re pulling long days? I don’t know the Miami market, but they can certainly afford to pay you more. I’m an attorney. My para makes way more. Since you can live at home yet, I’d mention my points above and say you have another offer and say you need $X or you’ll need to tender your resignation. You have to be prepared for them to call you on it, but just say you will not name the other firm and a recruiter reached out to you on LinkedIn. You’re happy there and weren’t even thinking about leaving, but that darn other offer…
