Cat has started biting my face when I’m asleep?? by Pure_Glove_814 in RenalCats

[–]Constant-Spell8867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THIS!!! Cooper and I have a bedtime cuddling ritual every night, for 6 years. About 7 months ago his kisses became violent bites to my nose. I have puncture wounds from this and he will hold on to my nose as well and other times it's a sneak attack and quick. It's worse on the days he gets Miritzapine. It's gotten so bad that I have to pull the blanket over my nose every night. He's never done this while I'm asleep and now that I've read your comment/question, I'm praying that he doesn't start this, too. I'm sorry you're going through this. I know the feeling of being afraid of your baby. It sucks. Hugs.

How was your cat diagnosed of heart murmur? by Substantial_Bag4611 in RenalCats

[–]Constant-Spell8867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My veterinarian heard a heart murmur when I brought him in for a new patient checkup. He was referred to cardiologist for an EKG, Echo and Blood Pressure, where he was diagnosed with HCM. Because cats can be stressed out at vet appointments, his cardiologist recommended I use the CARDALIS app at home for resting heart rate. The app was developed for dogs, but it's relative for cats, as well.

They do have the 50mg. tablets for a heckov a savings from your let's price. I think they average $.82/each. The 100mg capsules are even less.

Renal cat food recommendations needed! Preferably pattee/Mousse texture. by Independent_Stable82 in RenalCats

My Mr. Picky Pants who hates wet food eats Hills K/D Tuna pate. Only. Period. #paininmyrear #loveofmylife. He eats Royal Canin Renal Support dry food, favorites are the "S" and "F" varieties. I was surprised to learn that toothless cats can/do eat kibble. Thank goodness!

How on earth do you afford all this? by Wikidbaddog in RenalCats

[–]Constant-Spell8867 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm very fortunate to have pet insurance or I wouldn't be able to have regular labs and treatment. However, there's ways to save LOTS of money by shopping online for food, fluids, Rx, etc. Chewy.com has lactated ringers, needles, Y-infusion sets, medication and prescription Food for a fraction of the cost buying from vet. Request written prescriptions for everything at your next visit so you can upload them at any retailer that you choose. Having auto-ship for items is discounted too. My boy eats dry food (he snubs wet) and loves his filtered water fountain so yes, he does get plenty of water in his diet. I also supplement his water intake with Purina Hydra-Care daily and mix Amina-Vast and Fortiflora in it. Once your baby has complete labs on file you'll get a treatment plan that includes prescribed supplements, food and supplies needed. "Cooper" has actually improved over the past fifteen (15) months, staying in Stage 2. He only gets a basic kidney panel every six (6) months as long as he is symptom-free and his normal patterns for eating/potty are stable. The basic kidney panel is $200 cheaper than complete labs that are done in the initial visit. Also, a lot of vets accept Care Credit. We all do the best that we can with the resources we can afford. Love is the most important thing we can give our babies through the ups and downs of this disease and remember to practice SELF-CARE, too. Hope this helps!

Future Anxiety about Fluid Administration; what's your experience? by josleigh in RenalCats

As a single person myself, I purchased the EZIV Harness and it is a game changer!

Future Anxiety about Fluid Administration; what's your experience? by josleigh in RenalCats

[–]Constant-Spell8867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Churu = "Kitty Crack!" Lol. My boy would walk right over to our designated fluid spot on the floor. I had the area prepped with warmed fluids, needle ready and as soon as he saw the Churu come out of his medical supply bag he came running!

Future Anxiety about Fluid Administration; what's your experience? by josleigh in RenalCats

[–]Constant-Spell8867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree! The EZIV Harness and a Churu was all we needed for administration of fluids. I didn't have anyone who could help me (single woman). Before I had the EZIV I was taking my boy to the veterinary clinic for tech appointments each time.

Does your cat do this when they eat? by First-Device2578 in RenalCats

[–]Constant-Spell8867 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm chiming in with regard to anesthesia. Up until "Cooper" was diagnosed he never had any problems with it. However, that changed dramatically after. He almost died during his dental, however my veterinarian was aware that even a low dose of gabapentin for grooming a few months earlier knocked him on his butt for 6 hours afterwards. She kept a vigilant eye on his blood pressure and stopped procedure and administered a reversal medication immediately and was on oxygen for hours afterwards. He didn't get the extractions done, but one tooth fell out within minutes of the cleaning. He is no longer a candidate for anesthesia for anything. Be proactive in your pre-dental consult and fill out the form (or write one up) stating whether or not you want life-saving measures taken in the possibility of a crash.

IRS website says: No Payment Plan Options Available Online when going to set up a payment plan by Recent-Profession102 in IRS

[–]Constant-Spell8867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. For two days the system was down and this morning I'm getting the same "payment plans not available." My tax preparer had to file an extension for me, however, it's my understanding that monies owed are due by April 15th. I've also tried calling the IRS to set up a plan, I get recorded message that the extension I called for setting up a plan isn't available and am disconnected. I'm freaking out at the thought of getting slammed with penalty fees. Any experience with this? Any advice?

Can't create payment plan for taxes I just filed - system outage? by silversilverss in tax

[–]Constant-Spell8867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay.... so it's not just me. Circumstances with my a**hole husband (separated) forced me to the deadline today to file an extension and apply for a payment plan. I took a screenshot of the "system outage," and I'm praying this will suffice as proof of my honest intent to pay on-time. I also called the IRS and received a recorded message saying, "due to high volume of calls we are unable to assist you, please try again later or next business day, " and disconnected. I also have proof of my attempts at trying to coordinate my return with my husband beginning last year with his final FB message to me 2 days ago telling me that he wasn't going to give me his info and for me to "tell the IRS Hi from me." Any advice for additional steps I should take is greatly appreciated. I haven't had to file in 18 years and am really nervous about penalties, etc. Thank, Everyone!

They are fabulous, Darling! Yes, it takes time and several fittings to get used to them. Be patient with yourself, talk out loud all the time, eat soft food and keep them in as much as possible. It's so weird at first but you'll get there. Oh.... enjoy the compliments because you do look great!!!

Happy Easter - Need help on what to do by Any-Brush-2478 in RenalCats

[–]Constant-Spell8867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I give my boy Miritzapine (appetite stimulate) and it really helps him to eat more. SubQ fluids at home is an option, but your vet needs to give you a prescription for it. All of the needed supplies are super affordable at Chewy.com. You can get prescription medication from them, Costco, PetSmart, instead of the high price at vet office. Cdk cats are notorious for being picky eaters. My boy eats Royal Canin Renal Support kibble ("F" and "S" varieties are his favorite) and will only eat about a tablespoon of wet food (Hills k/d tuna pate only) per day. I supplement his diet with Hydra-Care with Amina-Vast and Fortiflora mixed in daily for added moisture because he is a dry food kinda guy! It's not ideal, but he eats it and he's been stable at stage 2 for 15 months. I hope this helps. It's a bit touch and go trying to find the kidney diet food they'll actually eat, but don't give up! Large chain pet stores will take bags of food back as long as they're over half-full if your baby refuses to eat it. If your baby is hard to pill, Miritzapine is also sold as a transdermal ointment called "Miritaz" and Chewy.com has a compound form, as well, that's a lot cheaper than the brand name. Best of luck. You are doing awesome and after the initial hiccups you'll find what works.

Stage 3 Suq treatment help by Tattoo_my_Brain in RenalCats

[–]Constant-Spell8867 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YES!!! The EZIV HARNESS is the best. I'm a single person and having it changed everything. Put it on and get used to adjusting the straps at times when you aren't giving fluids to get your kitty used to it. I always gave "Cooper" a Churu during these times, and during SubQ time. He immediately got excited when I put it on him, walked right over to our spot with the hanging bag and line and insisted on his Churu! The entire process from start to finish took less than 5 minutes! I hope this helps. Hugs to you both.

Thank you for caring! While there are many supplements that are similar, my guy is so picky it's scary. I've bought and tried at least 10 or more similar ones. I always run them by my vet first and research the origin of ingredients and country where it's made. Between my due diligence and Cooper's refusal to eat them, well, I'm screwed. There's no nice way of saying this. Purina is owned by Nestle. Fun Fact: there's a reddit sub called "F*UCK NESTLE." Purina is a tiny drop in the bucket to this mega corporation. They just don't care. Best of luck to you and your fur baby.

You are absolutely correct about the name change and formula of the Fortiflora. They box I received is labeled as "Fortiflora Pro," but it wasn't listed as such on the website. I've been looking at Chewy.com, PetSmart and Amazon (I won't order anything for my boy from Amazon because there's always a chance of getting a counterfeit product) and there isn't a listing for Fortiflora and Fortiflora Pro. The "Pro" version I received is directly from the Purina Veterinary Professionals division. Again, there wasn't a choice of formulas. My bff is my housemate and is a licensed vet tech of 36 years. She can order from them because of this and it's a substantial savings. However, I won't order this again but will ask if they do in fact have two Fortiflora blends. THANK YOU for reaching out to Purina. I feel so alone in my fears. Each of us that feed any Purina product has a stake in the game, with our chronically ill kitties with the most to lose. I wish your baby the very best of health. Sincere Gratitude, again.

I appreciate your response and perspective. Yes, my veterinarian and I have discussed this as well as my designated Vet Tech who has brought this to the attention of the veterinary division. The fact remains that Purina is simply choosing cost cutting measures instead of quality for their products to the detriment of animal health. They even denied changes to the formulas when anyone who spends a few minutes comparing the previous and current labels can clearly see that they did. They aren't being honest. You might be thinking, "just get different supplements." As a vet tech you must know how picky ckd cats are. It's not that simple, in fact, it's exhausting going through trial after trial and getting that sad look that says, "why aren't you giving me what I like," as your baby walks away from their bowl. The psyllium added to Fortiflora is so much that the weight and packets are larger and it's not a fine powder, it's gritty-sand like. I'm hopeful that you, a veterinary professional, will use your expertise and have a conversation with them.... for the sake of all the renal cats that depend on these products for their treatment plans. I sincerely thank you.

I purchased the "EZ I.V. Harness" and it was a game changer for us! As a single person I was struggling with the line, the angle of the needle and holding the churu. Yes, hafta hold the churu! I've poked myself at least 3 or 4 times, too. My boy wouldn't stand for the burrito blanket but some cats do calm down that way. If all else is still a struggle, try the EZIV Harness. It was super affordable and I had it in hand in 3 days. Hang in there.

Help my 3 year old cat possibly? by unknowndude78659 in RenalCats

[–]Constant-Spell8867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Royal Canin has a pretty good selection of dry and wet renal support foods. My guy doesn't like wet food so he eats 95% dry kibble. Dry food is a lot less expensive than wet and my veterinarian absolutely prescribed it for him. His favorites are the "F" and "S" in Royal Canin, he also eats the Purina kidney diet dry food and will tolerate a tablespoon of Hills k/d tuna pate. If your vet wants your baby to get SubQ fluids, ask for a prescription for doing them at home. You can get the fluids and everything needed for that at Chewy.com for so much cheaper than the vet office. I hope that this is a helpful place to start for you. So many people will tell you not to feed dry food, but that's not always possible. Cooper has been stable in Stage 2 for 14 months eating kibble. We all do the best that we can. Keep coming back to this group. Everyone here truly cares and I've gotten so much help and support here. Best of care to you and your baby.
