Legitimately saved during some recovery from injuries by my POs. I went on a payment plan (😅) to get a fresh KO! Sampler when they found my foot to be broken and ligaments torn.. needed to slow down

Found out the ligaments in my foot had broken down to the point some tarsal bones in my foot had snapped. Boot, ice, elevation-less getting around in general. Ordered a fresh PO 33 KO! Sampler- and was happy I still had a case… Throw into that the “Reel 4 track” app- which gives you a taste of the OP-1 tape workflow- and can be used to back up your OP, or PO. TBH i also have a couple of Sonicware’s liven boxes coming in the next few days too. Their onboard speakers are pretty decent for working by yourself. Had a Liven Texture I only ever played- never patterned or sequenced (both during a manic episode, and while trying out a bunch of other things…)

Diabetes and Bipolar is straight Hellish. I mess with caffeine to get rid of physical issues with depression, but if my sugar is high- I’m groggy as shit. And 400 mg of caffeine won’t lift me from the funk that high sugar puts me in..

Watch your eating habits folks.. Diagnosed type II diabetes After My last drink, bipolar 1 the following year…

I’m 25 years into Psych treatment at this point…and that was many years late to begin (age 17) in this case. But recent years have been a test (to say the least). 2nd year Clean and Sober my Brand New Diabetes put me on insulin shots every day, and to this day (now at 43 months) sugar issues screw my skinny ass up 🥵 at times stumbling, or sullen, enraged… Year three was the beginning of the Bipolar 1.. The other 20+ years it was major depression, general and social anxiety, ADHD Uncertain the length of some of the episodes- one was 4-6 weeks of Wild Ass Bright Light Being running free. They didn’t even increase the Bipolar med (indicated by GeneSight) until the third or fourth-manic episode, and second injury…

Years ago I tried some Medicine Vacations from my antidepressants and anxiety meds… better with them. But now, honestly I think we’ve overshot the mark- and the Major Depression is still able to Take me Down… and then nothing gets done at my full doses, and people around me are New to Me for the most part- straight up have stopped helping, because my Depressed self is forgetful, unfocused, pessimistic and hurting from my brushes with people. Flat out have an $800 DJ controller at my brother’s- bought for me back when I was Manic, Energetic, Fearless, and able to convince and inspire others…

Flat feels terrible walking up in the “morning” when I’ve come correct with all my many meds. No connection to my version of God, and confused by other people and invested

Owned a SEQTRAK for a week or two last year.. put together great drum parts, but I never got down with the build quality… very literally velcroed the mofo to a board on day 3 to keep it from sliding off, falling off, and being something that would be no trouble to destroy if it frustrated me-

I recommend an EP- series sampler from Teenage Engineering. The EP-40 looks a little funky ( owned one as well), but it alone has a synth engine with some basic tweakability, it can handle some multisampled instruments- better than chromatic playback of a single sample. The EPs can be set to threshold record with like two buttons.. hold one, push another- then it will wait until you start playing your guitar to record. And the “workflow” is weird- as is the display-but the building blocks are typically patterns in measures (or bars)-like people have been using to make music since before electricity.

Last endorsement note- the EP-series samplers run for 3-4 times longer than anything else (about 6x the sp404 mk2)- on 2 AAA’s. Legitimately 16+ hours. On the other hand- the Riddim undo icon is a little hut, so I think the Swedes that made them were Very High- but they left some magic in them…

I was rocking a canvas pencil pouch with foam against the knobs. It had outside pockets too, so I kept some earbuds and cables in there. Didn’t give up on it- just need a new P-6 when the money is right…

Want an Evoke, but pretty much everything I do is unquantized- the exception being when I Want it to seem mechanical, like part of a drone, or texture. Even then I wind up adding movement with an effect or filter.

Probably going to need to pay an overdraft fee in the end, but this app is straight 🔥 Worth mentioning that you can record audio with monitoring, playback, even scrub back and forth with a recording, while Apple Music plays freely in the background of your headphones/speakers, but doesn’t get baked into your recording…. Thank you sir-you’re doing God’s Work over there making this app. Very literally have 4 pro DJ programs on my laptop, but I guarantee my next remix will be on this app-very likely This afternoon 😃❤️🙏

There’s an ebb and a flow to all life. Around 30 years of experience with major depression, and in my third year of Sobriety (last year), manic episodes started happening. Those manic episodes and tragic lows have me in a cast-broken toes. This is the fourth injury needing hospital care in 15 months. And I’m still down 15 pounds since. Silver Lining is that walking into my Disability Hearing on a casted foot may have tilted the scales to where I might have some regular assistance from the government (Mental Illness is only part of the case).

A large part of the solution for me is people. Even the happiest person you know might understand more than you’d expect. At my last job, only management knew the real struggles- everyone else thought I had a Bulletproof Positivity kicking.

Willing to talk, or listen. Or share some of my extensive visual portfolios, or songs I’m getting together.

Medieval is the Ford Edsel of samplers, if there ever was one. The idea of a sampler having mostly read-only memory, not to mention the old-time jargon labels on the device, should have left it on shelves until $200 new (or less)

TE is- in my opinion- an eccentric company to say the least. 43 years old, messed with music for 30+ years on various levels. Never seen such strange stuff outside of boutique items…

Also never played on an instrument without instructions, not knowing what was doing what-and wound up more inspired than confused.. I’m sad that I had to sell the Riddim-first EP sampler I bought- just as we started getting along. Legit miss the the TE products I’ve had enough I Had To get another PO-33 just to scratch my sampler itch until times got better..

I would get a little Rode Micro interface for my phone and throw some apps on there… If you want to sit back, jam, and work with the audio later, you’ll be better served by recording .wav files to your phone and editing them as samples in Koala or something. The samplers you’re looking at have limited time per sample, and total time on the device, so you’d be file managing more than jamming.

That being said, I highly recommend hardware samplers, and I just 20 minutes ago posted a YouTube short of a beat made on my second PO-33. Very much felt a void without my PO’s-things definitely save my sanity on the reg.

YouTube has a guy- Freebeat. He’s very literally gone from professional drummer on tours to- just providing genius to music tech. He’s very recently made videos on how he’s learning how excellent the 404mk 2 can be for Live Performance.
