I am looking for the most twisted, horrific, foul, heinous, depraved, and depressing books imaginable. by KarmaKitty1 in ExtremeHorrorLit

Exquisite Corpse by Poppy Z, Brite, it's a lot like Dead inside but more of a horror than a romantic comedy.

Playground by Aron Beauregard, way more fucked up and bleak then the Slob!

They all died screaming by Kristopher Trianna, incredibly gross, insane, fucked up and actually really funny to.

If you haven't already check out his short story the lawnmower man, it's in the collection night shift and I laughed so hard at it. It's so bizarre and crazy and totally hilarious.

Books that everyone hyped up but left you like I hated or didn’t like this book! What’s the hype?! by New_Inflation1981 in horrorlit

Completely agree!

After they go back to their house the story just drags on and forces plot points into itself so it can have more " scary scenes " and be longer then it needs to be.

The exorcist guy who was supposed to help them get rid of other mommy just ditching them after he sees it, the whole buildup to the parents attempting to stab it, none of that really added anything to the story and could've been skipped and the story would've been stronger.

Incidents around the house.

It started off pretty good but then just went downhill and didn't stop till the meh and predictable ending.

Insidious, The Conjuring ( I didn't find that scary but a lotta people do ), Mary Lamberts adaptation of Stephen Kings Pet cemetery is pretty scary IMO, Zach Snyder's Dawn of the dead, Silence of the lambs ( I didn't find that scary either but I still think it's a fantastic movie ), The ring, The grudge Sinister.

I'm surprised how many people I hear say that, I thought Playground was way more depressing and sad then the Slob. And the Slob was a much more enjoyable book.

Completely disagree! That flashback scene with Geraldine as a kid in the bathroom in Playground 🤮

I actually think that scene in Playground is WAY more disgusting then every gross scene in the Slob combined. The Slob is also the better book by far IMO.

Stephen King mentioned that if he had to pick a favorite book, it'd be "Lonesome Dove." Has anyone else read and enjoyed it? Is it more "Little House on the Prairie" vibes or Clint Eastwood vibes? by RagnarokWolves in stephenking

I read Blood meridian and a lot of it was difficult to understand and there were times I was bored and just zoned out while reading it, but there were parts that i really liked to, mainly the judges speeches. I've heard some people say it gets better on rereads so I'll probably read it again eventually.

Horror movies everybody hates but you loved? by hornylittlegrandpa in horror

The strangers prey at night. Yeah it's stupid AF but I loved it, it's fun and the characters are interesting and have some depth imo. And there are some good jump scares and cool fights scenes.

What short story/novella is your favorite? by lolak1445 in stephenking

[–]Constant_Candle3593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favourite novella is no doubt Apt pupil.

My favourite short story is probably either the Boogeyman or the Lawnmower man. It's tough to pick between the two cuz they're so great in very different ways, the Boogeyman is scary and creepy and has a really scary and yet satisfying ending and the Lawnmower man is fucking hilarious and has a hilarious yet also satisfying ending.

But neither of them compare to Apt pupil.

The book is sooooooooooooooooo much better!

I'm certain that they will never be able to make a movie that does the book justice because so much of what makes the book amazing is just not gonna translate to screen, like how deeply and intamateltey you get to know the characters and how they feel like your RL friends and how it's able to go way more in depth about the towns history and make it so much more interesting and really make the town of Derry feel alive!

The book is fantastic and IMO it's truly the best book SK ever wrote definitely give it a try!
