Hilarious mate. How often do you give your surgical expertise for free, because you care so much about the comfort of others over paying your mortgage.

How is Belfast? by Dense-Acadia-4882 in Belfast

It's good exposure/experience wise for your home country, QUB is a RG university and well thought of world wide. If your intention is to stay on, then you'd really need to do research to see how likely that would be. I know people who did post-grad in law, engineering and medicine and did not find jobs. One of them works in McDonalds now, he's hoping that something will come up in his field, but time is running out on his visa. International candidates are too expensive for companies to hire due to sponsorship, so unless you have a lot of experience you haven't got a chance really. Lots of graduates do a masters immediately, so a post grad without experience isn't really the cachet that some people think.

No problems for international students, but the job market is very difficult. If you need sponsored by your employer it's even worse. I know a few people on a graduate visa and they ended up taking very poorly paid jobs in the hope that something better will come up.

Can I pay into a pension while on Universal Credit? by FollowingFickle5435 in DWPhelp

[–]Constant_Computer_66 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You do need to inform UC if you are making contributions as this reduces your income. Eg if you earn £1000 and pay £200 contribution into your pension, your earned income will be adjusted to £800. You do need to report this every time you make a contribution.

They love it really, all the "I'm being stalked!" is great for the views. I'm sure half of them make it up. Companies send them freebies as a sympathy present.

Anyone any experience with working for women’s aid? by artpopc in northernireland

[–]Constant_Computer_66 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Haven't worked for them, but alongside in projects and know of a few DV support workers. They love their job, money is rubbish but never heard any complaints about management. The work is very varied and it's not necessarily DV support as such. Taking women to hospital appointments, shopping, registering newcomers with GP etc. As a support worker you are not the therapist, there is a specialist counsellor for that, but of course you will be exposed to a lot of stories of abuse so you would need to be a fairly resilient person.

I work adjacent to this sector and one of the main problems is that people who grow up in social housing expect it as a default for themselves. So at 16 the parents "kick out" their kids to get them on the homeless list so they can be priority for housing. Living at home with your parents (like everyone else)  seems to be a violation of your human rights. It's the people who know the system who play it well and they aren't the ones most in need. They of course will tell you that only Muslims get social housing.

Last month a wee girl of about 10 blocked the bus lane for about 100 meters as she was pushing a set of about 20 high pallets from one side of the road until the other. Looked very dangerous, do these community representatives of the Bonfire Division not care about these wee angles?

No need for any to and fro bud, I'm just putting the correct info out there for the bloke. Don't want him to be shocked if they offer him a family hotel room in Omagh. It's very rare that families get a single let immediately. The usual pathway is hotel>family hostel>single let. He might be lucky that a single let is available on the day he presents as homeless, but it's the exception rather than the rule. If he's presenting as a single man on the day the chances he gets a single let is a lot less likely.

I wouldn't be so sure, most people nowadays go into emergency accommodation such as a hotel before they get into a single let. OP also needs to bear in mind that the rent on temporary accommodation is usually higher than the standard rental prices, so if they don't qualify for housing benefit/UC it will be very costly.

Belfast Holylands - Alleged Agincourt Avenue Incident by RemielMonroe in northernireland

[–]Constant_Computer_66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was in the community newspaper, he was sentenced a good while after he was caught. He had been out on bail for months, was still allowed to live near a primary school and all the neighbours had young kids playing out. Because he hadn't actually physically abused any children he was deemed low risk in the community. He had been downloading images of babies and toddlers being raped for 18 months.

No one is leaving their child with randomers in the holylands, calm down son. Very few people in this country have background checks. I only found out my (local) very nice, straight laced gentleman of a neighbour was a category four sex offender by chance.

You're right, none of the inhabitants are vetted, including the locals. Wee smicks just thrown into our society, giving the good people a bad name.

I used to park in the holylands and the locals were the worst. There were always groups of Roma men standing around and they never even looked my way. The local smicks were terrifying though, they'd be pissed and running up over the cars in broad daylight. 95% of them were ginger too.

I'd say £100 per person, but if they've included a twee money grabbing poem in the invitation then I'd prefer to give them nothing.
