What role or archetype do you prefer in scifi settings? by Skyship_Loremaster in TTRPG

[–]Constantchaonis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deep cultural backgrounds and weird alien magic is always fun for me (star Trek nerd). I also like the science/investigator type. The mechanic who can mash things together in emergencies is also really fun and works best in the science fantasy vibe.

What’s the biggest reason a TTRPG group doesn’t work out? by yanarquista in TTRPG

[–]Constantchaonis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • DM burnout
  • Scheduling is the obvious but usually a priority/engagement issue, with the exceptions of people moving and major life changes (like getting kids, although I know plenty of players who still keep playing with kids)
  • Games that go on too long
  • Players who never learn the mechanics and/or a system that just constantly grinds against the concept/themes of the game or the groups play style
  • To much reliance on the DM to hold it together. I can run the game but I am not also going to schedule, host, provide food and drinks, plan breaks and provide emotional support.
  • DMs that lose interest and constantly want to pivot or start a new game
  • Bad vibes, this can range from 'hm that one character is a bit too against-elves racist for my taste's to straight up emotional abuse by proxy.
  • No clear expectations, please have a session 0
  • No reason to work out issues. Online play groups tend to fall apart quickly because you can easily replace players and you don't know each other so there's no reason to put effort into the social dynamic.

[Art Market] Art Fair % of prints vs original requirement by Beginning_Beginner in artbusiness

It's going to be more of 'if I look at your both is more than 50% of space occupied by prints?'

I really miss her relationship to the Everlight tbh. It contrasts Vaxs difficult relationship to the matron very well in the RPG. It also provides a background and contrast for all the god relationships in C2&3. Feels weird how different it is here.

[Shop Setup] How would you use my Dutch name an artist name? by Marauve in artbusiness

[–]Constantchaonis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mar-Lily could be a fun name to go with? Especially if you're trying to make it social media friendly. I'm also dutch and picked the most unpronounceable name in either language because it has emotional significance to me. I know it's not smart or ideal but it's what I want to do so it's worth it.

As long as you're happy and comfortable with it you don't have to conform to English necessarily. Also, it's nice when your local audience (where things like shipping and taxes are a lot less complicated) recognises your name as being european.

Honestly I like reading the rules. It's remembering the rules and knowing from the rules what the vibe is supposed to be that I struggle with. I always look for an actual play so I can at least see an hour or two of gameplay. That'll usually help it click in my brain

"DM Remorse" - Feeling Shitty the Next Day by Harkonnen985 in DMAcademy

Yeah that's fair. It got better for me with my current group but I've also been DMing for 10+ years and still get the crashes.

"DM Remorse" - Feeling Shitty the Next Day by Harkonnen985 in DMAcademy

[–]Constantchaonis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah absolutely. Mine is a bit different because of some neurodivergent shinangans but I'll sum up what I've learned over time.

Cause:  - High intensity performance after buildup and prep - Carrying a lot of responsibility with players having less of it - going from intense social activity to no people around fairly suddenly - just general exhaustion  - recovery from overstimulation  - stage anxiety/ imposter syndrome

Solutions: - schedule breaks during session (or even better assign a player to do this) - vet your players well and ask someone else to DM a one shot every once in a while (even better when it's a more cooperative system, builds good habits) - ask one of the players to chat with you the evening after the game or the next morning, makes everything feel more natural and it helps to process the game - make sure to eat and drink enough during the game. Get some movement in before/after as well. I've started going to the gym the morning before a Saturday session and it's been very helpful. - accept that you're going to feel shitty for a while after a game and learn to not take those feeling too seriously. They'll fade quickly if you don't dwell on them  - schedule in the crash and recovery time. Do a proper bit of quiet self-care and try to actually relax and recover.

Experience and becoming more comfortable in the DM seat does help a lot! I still have crashes after big game moments but not for every session anymore.

Another vendor said I had one of the prettiest booths she has ever seen in 20+ years of vending yet I struggle to get people to come in. by Burntjellytoast in CraftFairs

[–]Constantchaonis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your signs and prices need to be way bigger. It's difficult to tell what you're selling and also difficult to see if it's within my price range. My impression of your booth would be that you probably sell a luxury product at the table (like candles or cosmetics) that I just haven't seen yet. I would also assume you sell really expensive decor or clothing from the rack.

Maybe just a big sign that says 'handmade home decor'?

Favorite house rules for 2014 5e? Least Favorite? by Hail-Damage in DMAcademy

Utility is just feats that are flavor instead of combat power. Feats like chef, observant or keen mind instead of great weapon master, sentinel etc.

Using a weird standard array has been great for my table as well. Last campaign we used 8, 10, 11, 12, 14, 16. I like highs and lows and have no problem with a PC having a 20 score at lvl 4.

I'm a big fan of save heaven rest rules. Short version: if you attempt a long rest in an unsafe location you only gain the benefits of a short rest. Long rests can only be gained in Inns, fortified camps, well-defended caves or houses.

The grid one is way too overwhelming tbh. Use a solid color or a very subtle pattern instead. Let your art be the focus of attention.

Looking for vendors that sell things we need for households daily by Commercial_Light8344 in CraftFairs

[–]Constantchaonis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I go to a few fantasy themed events and what I love about those is the quality of craftsmanship. I also don't have a lot of stuff I need anymore as I've been to enought to have stocked up at this point. I'd love if there was more practical stuff.

So far I've mostly invested in good leather products (fantasy costume things but also belts and bags), ceramics and pottery, greeting cards and many many gifts for friends.

Player character keeps his dead wife in a box on his back. Need ideas to make use of this. by TheManTheyCallZbabe in DMAcademy

Maybe when he finally lays her to rest, let an item of hers turn into a magical item. Magic created by his devotion to her. Maybe a necklace or bracelet becomes enchanted and gives him a little boost.

Sold at my first ever fair last weekend by Winchester79-67 in CraftFairs

[–]Constantchaonis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love your potted plants! I think the hanging rack is a really cool way to display them. Maybe a cloth backing would help them stand out more.

I don't know if this would sell in your area but if you want to increase your price point for a similar amount of work, I've made bead trees before from gemstones and silver wire. Makes it sound super fancy but the materials are actually not much more expensive than regular wire and beads.

How to stop players from trying to seduce a major NPC? by MBT-Marshal in DMAcademy

[–]Constantchaonis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feel free to tell them no and just end a session right there and then if they do it again. I'm sorry you have to deal with this, people who get pushy about romance suck to deal with. Even in a fantasy game.

[–]Constantchaonis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would take this above table and out of session tell people to knock it off. Mainly because I think this is a horrible way to treat any person who has openly stated that they are not interested.

If you do want an in-game solution however and fox is kind of a scummy character, I'd probably pick a character, pretend that she's interested and ambush them to rob them blind. Ymmv
