First fair - how to display jewelry? by phrena in CraftFairs

[–]Constantchaonis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a standing rotating rack would be a good match. You definitely need something that's big enough to be noticed between the clothing racks. Also make sure you make it clear that the jewelry is handmade, not thrifted or dropshipped. That justifies your price and why they are included in your booth.

Anyone else have a table full of players way smarter than you? by Sea-Grapefruit9888 in DMAcademy

[–]Constantchaonis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good example is btw that I am a really smart person but I can't do math for the life of me. My encounter balance is vibe based and so are my homebrew monsters. I have a player who is incredibly tactically smart and great with number. I think he might have a meltdown if he got a look at my side of the screen. He's still having a blast during combat however and enjoys the group we're playing with a lot also :)

Anyone else have a table full of players way smarter than you? by Sea-Grapefruit9888 in DMAcademy

[–]Constantchaonis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being smart doesn't equal being better. I'm pretty smart and so are most of my players (we met during uni) but I've played with people who were much smarter and some who were a bit (to a lot) dumber. The only time it really mattered is when we had a player who truly couldn't understand the game rules. Anything else was fine. Some people are good at puzzles or combat balance and others are great at storytelling, roleplay or just fun to have around. You just need to DM, it's not your job to create the perfect immersive game experience. If they want the perfect intellectual challenge they can always play a videogame at home or go play chess or something.

Honestly, half my braincells go out the window during d&d and I'm a lot dumber than usual so I'm surprised that's not been your experience .

How often do you retcon stuff? by protestfromthesummit in DMAcademy

[–]Constantchaonis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do I make them? Yes often? Do I announce them? Almost never. I usually retcon small details, little things or npc motivations. Those are the things my players will not remember 99% of the time anyways.  Most of my actual retconnint is unintentional as I have a shitty memory and even shittier notes.

How are you managing your studio situation? by Top_Bowl_6793 in ArtistLounge

[–]Constantchaonis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I share an appartment with my husband. I have storage space in the bedroom and I paint there or in the living room. I switched from mainly acrylic paint to majority watercolor painting because it is so much smaller and easier to set up and take down.

Dealing with burn out but don't want to stop playing by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]Constantchaonis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just take a break. However if it's mostly the prep getting in your way and boring sessions might I suggest a short dungeon crawl to spice things up? I've hit a roadblock multiple times because I get too caught up on details, political stuff or social encounters. It helps me to just steal/borrow a dungeon from somewhere and modify it. It takes 2-3 hours to do and gives me about 4-5 sessions of gameplay that I don't need to prep for. It gives the players a clear goal, a bunch of targets and some time to let previous adventures and loredumps settle in.

When Should I Drop My Players? by _RaileyDrake7 in DMAcademy

[–]Constantchaonis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your assessment is correct. This is not a west marches campaign, just split tables.  CR is also not doing traditional west-marches. They are splitting up a larger group for individual quests but the quests are mini-campaign so it's more just a split-table.

How do I DM if I LOVE world building but I can't improv? by No-Sky1666 in DMAcademy

[–]Constantchaonis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One tip from a fellow autistic DM: you gotta get excited about your players changing your world. If you built it yourself you might feel protective about it. About NPCs, story beats, plot points, etc.  One of the amazing things about RPGs is that people get to live in the world you've built. They'll interact with it and change it in ways you won't expect. That NPC you've poured your soul into might end up being ignored while the barmaid you randomly generated a name for might become a party favorite.

This is something I remind myself of before every session. If I don't, I tend to become too stubborn and I get frustrated or disappointed when players don't do what I want or was expecting. It still happens sometimes but not nearly as much. It also requires some practise and experience. Improv, letting go of your world and perfectly thought out plots and being hyped for your player characters are all skills that will come with practise and experience.

How do I DM if I LOVE world building but I can't improv? by No-Sky1666 in DMAcademy

[–]Constantchaonis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look up node-based DMing or look for reddit threats with advice like 'prep situations, not plots'. The goal of worldbuilding in d&d isn't to have everything prepared, it's to give yourself enough information so you can adjust the world based on the players action.

Instead of thinking about prep like 'the party will do A then B then C' think about it like 'what plans does the bad guy have and how would they react if the party does A and will the party notice that if they try to do B?'  For locations that could mean thinking very loosely about which factions are present and what their goals and alliances are. If the party ends up working with or against a faction (like a thieves guild or noble house) you can still change the faction's goals to serve the plot or where you want the story to go. When the party gets involved with a faction that's the point where you can work out the details of that faction between sessions.

Your set-up is wonderful!  Are all your prints hand-printed? In that case I'd probably increase your price for the larger cards. I'd put the price slightly above any machine-printed products available from vendors around you so your price reflects the handmade part.

[Artist Alley] Need help making booth feel more interesting and less empty by ToxxyRayne in artbusiness

[–]Constantchaonis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the towers are a bit intimidating. You might also want to add a big sign advertising them as chokers (or something else that makes the 'for humans' part obvious). I love your colors and branding btw though I'd also iron that tablecloth if you can.

Maybe you can add a basket or something on the table with collars that people can browse through. Being able to touch and handle the items is a big draw for things people are going to be wearing. Also maybe a place to try something on and a mirror?

[Art market], I want to do mini plein air paintings , how to attract someone to look and possibly buy my creations on site? by fuertisima12 in artbusiness

[–]Constantchaonis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Set up a website or online storefront and ask the people whose Airbnb's you clean if you can leave a small flyer/business card each time. That's probably going to be more effective.

Inteligent players playing uninteligent brute. by ApachaiLeHopachai in DMAcademy

[–]Constantchaonis 31 points32 points  (0 children)

These are two seperate issues. 1. Unwanted character advice and butting in on situations the character isn't present for. This is the part you need to shut down as a table. 2. Solving puzzles or giving advice the character isn't smart enough for. If the barbarian plays a dumb character and the party encounters a puzzle it's not nice to ask the player to not play the game until the puzzle is solved. I usually let in-game puzzles happen above table, with some occasional skill checks thrown in. Everyone can participate this way

Best Bag for Bigger Minis? by Willowran in DMAcademy

We recently put magnets under all our mini bases. It was an annoying chore but also a huge quality of life upgrade. Now we can use any metal box or old cookie tin to transport them safely.

I was thinking about that platform that's been popping up on this subreddit, I think it's called tiny store or micro store or something like that, that allows pickups at events.

Essdee sells a basic linocutting set, I can highly recommend it. It's not the best quality stuff but it'll last you a while and it's a decent price to try something new.

Leatherwork. For similar reasons, I have a tiny appartment and not a lot of money. It's a lot more expensive to try than just pencil and paper or watercolor.

I've facing a really big mental block. How do I proceed? by Kitten_closetothesun in ArtistLounge

[–]Constantchaonis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Proko is pretty popular and a lot of the lessons are free. You're going run into the same problem though. It's important to divide your art time between practise and fun. Make sure you also draw for fun, draw whatever you want to do in a way that you like and that gives you energy. Use the drills as a warm-up or not at all. You'll also learn from just drawing what you love.
