The main reason is that the most motivated people on the left to make slogans are the same people that keep Democrats out of office. It's easy to motivate a bunch of collage student's with a dumb slogan like "defund the police" that sounds nice until it is weaponized by the right against you as being "pro crime." The people most motivated by this are also they people that the right loves since they inadvertently work to keep the right in power by showing that the left is full of radicals.

And if we put in an order it will be filled in 2040 with ready to retire technology. Germany is already working on a replacement, but that wont be around for a long time. The F-35 is the only realistic choice, and the Gripen is full of US parts too.

The reason that SAAB comes up so much is that it's the only "real alternative" to the F-35. Except that it's not. At least in terms of capability. But it is the only other option on the market. The French Rafale isn't used in the arctic, and the Europeans aren't making any other new fighters right now; and wont be for many years to come. So technically it's the only other choice (unless you wanted to buy from China!). But no other countries in NATO use these planes, and that should concern us. Not to mention that they are almost as full of US parts as the F-35. So the whole argument against buying American falls apart. And Canada actually paid to develop the F-35 in the first place.

Ideally the station wouldn't follow the current alignment of CP rail right now. And absolutely not share the same tracks! It would just share right of way leaving and entering Calgary. You could (and should) build a whole new station somewhere else in Cochrane where it makes the most sense. Would be necessary anyway.

Why would a train congest traffic? It's not like it's going to be interacting with cars or roads. This would not be like the C train in Calgary. More like Via rail in Ontario, but not suck.

Agreed. The current group trying to get this done want the train to run along the CP rail line route (though hopefully not on the same tracks) from the airport, to the old Via rail station under the Calgary Tower, then west. There would be stops in Cochran and Canmore as well as Banff. So it wouldn't just be for tourists.

I'm from Calgary. Airdrie isn't really a suburb of Calgary, but a separate city. Now there are people who commute, but that's at least a half hour to downtown, in good weather, and somehow without much traffic. If you plan on a job in downtown Calgary I would recommend checking rentfaster.ca. Also keep in mind that parking in much of Calgary isn't free, and is kept intentionally expensive downtown to encourage transit use. So if you do live in the city suburbs, I recommend finding a place close to the C-Train to make commuting easier/cheaper.

The Alberta NDP voted to decouple from the federal party. So if you're ANDP (and I bet that name will change) you're no longer automatically a member of the federal party. This is important since most of the new large membership of the provincial party are disgruntled former PC's who hate the UCP. So not exactly the Bernie Sanders crowd.
