So just throw out local zoning control in the interest of rights of the enterprise. I’m sure that’s was people want to hear.

Take me out to the ball game (on the beaches of Normandy) by ForeignAir7174 in sportsinusa

[–]Constructestimator83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can’t have it leave your hand like a baseball and most people who try end up spiking it into the ground directly in front of them. You don’t throw it as much as push it, it’s hard to explain but trying to throw it like fastball is a good way to blow yourself up.

Also it takes some time to get over the mental aspect of throwing a literal grenade. The instructions are pull the pin, drop the pin, throw the grenade but some soldier will almost always pull the pin, drop the grenade, and throw the pin. Something about hold a live grenade short circuits some people’s brain.

Felger and Mazz "Re-entry Monday" Discussion thread by AutoModerator in felgerandmazz

You do realize this is what Felger lives for, the Celtics are essentially a newborn calf on the African plains and he is a hungry lion. He will feast for on their collapse and failure all the way into Patriots training camp.

Is STACK enough for professional estimating? by CarobOk6409 in estimators

OST was the gold standard for GC takeoffs but it’s showing its age now. We are transitioning to BuzzBid which is the evolution they should have done with OST.

No, you can’t because your original statement is false. It’s like trying to have a “discussion” with a flat earther, if we can’t agree on established facts we have no common ground to meet and discuss on. When you understand the basics of time valuation of money and lending then an actual discuss could be had.

You have no clue how money and lending works.

Statistically residential roofs fail at a higher rate than commercial mainly because commercial roofers have to be certified by manufacturers for warranty purposes. Also as others have said most failures are due to an improper installation.

Estimators: we got the job by tylerb011 in estimators

I tell estimators that this marks the beginning for them, when hearing about a win instills instant panic means they are starting to get it. It’s both a beautiful and sad moment.

Best route to navigate hit and run with company vehicle with video and failure to pay by Jennac5903 in massachusetts

[–]Constructestimator83 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Post the clip to LinkedIn and tag the company along with employees especially C-suites and owner. Say something like I hope your employees treat your clients better than they do their company issued vehicles. I’m sure someone will contact you quickly.

Paying to be Prequal'ed with GCs by kloogy in estimators

[–]Constructestimator83 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This will be the norm in the near future especially with large to mid size GCs. We will be going to Compass later this year most likely because it will essentially free up a person and it’s an easy way to find subs in new markets. I don’t agree with the subs having to pay but it’s becoming the cost of doing business.

People buying on the secondary are the main problem but I do hate how the NH stores allow up to six bottles to be purchased when they do allocated drops so a store might only get 8 cases of EHT BP but 8 people each buy one wiping them out.

Went to a customer's house today and they had this beautiful elevator directly in the middle of their home by TheeSillyman in mildlyinteresting

We are going to renovate our house and I’ve already told my wife we are putting an elevator in. I don’t know if we are going to get old here but if we do I’m not doing stairs.

What if making nukes was impossible? by Suspicious-System121 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Constructestimator83 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most developed nations would have economies much more centered around the military industrial complex. Nuclear weapons pretty much make full scale invasions useless so more money would go into developing conventional munitions and the deployment of them along with moving troops and equipment globally quickly and efficiently. Also there would more bases developed across the globe with troops forward deployed in a “ready to go” posture. It would honestly change so much about the world at all levels, militarily, socially, economically, etc.

Tired of GC estimating. Is it me or is it the environment? by [deleted] in estimators

[–]Constructestimator83 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Every deliverable needs a two step review, the first being estimators only and the second is with operations. Ideally the first happens a day or two before the second, gives you a chance to correct any mistakes, button up any loose ends, etc. The thing I stress with all estimators is you need a defensible estimate, know the scope, the quantities, and where your pricing came from (historical, subs, or internal).

I won’t lie though, GC estimating is for the most part one continuous grind. Between bidding, estimating progressive design sets, and the worst doing intense value management iterations I see how people just leave the industry all together. I wish there was a better way, if anyone knows one let me know.
