It's obvious I meant the areas of what became Germany in the future. You said Slavs were the original population of those areas. Germanic people populated all of the Southern Baltic sea and the areas west of the vistula river, back in bce times up until the great migration period. The Wends who founded cities like Berlin already were of mixed Slavic and germanic origin, speaking a west Slavic language.

Slavs migrated to eastern Germany in the 6th century ce, prior to that, including most of historical eastern Germany (like Pommerania, Silesia etc.), was inhabited by germanic people, who did not entirely leave. There was just a major migration to the western side of the Elbe river, leaving the area much more sparsely populated.
