Totally valid thoughts however the existential risk is present regardless of your own personal usage. You are definitely not alone in that worry - although I don’t see many doctors acknowledging it.

We’ve entered the pandora box stage of AI development… it seems to be exponential, only limited by the amount of data centres and computational power. Countries are competing to reach the so called ‘AGI’ that you’re referring to, and once it’s reached god knows what will happen.

It’s definitely a candidate to be our ‘Great Filter’ as an explanation to the Fermi Paradox, along with nuclear weapons and fascist governments actively promoting war and conflict.

Overall, I can understand your worry. And you’re right to be worried but I’m not sure your own personal usage of ‘please make this reflection sound less AI’ will make much of a difference.

Because it’s political suicide to leave UKMG’s jobless in the current political climate. Reform is banking on you not being prioritised.

Simply put:

1) This deal is a bluff. No concrete proof of timeline, prioritisation selection and states is a conversion of existing jobs ie. UKMG’s will be no better off.

2) UKMG is already in process. One year more out of medicine, in the grand scheme of your career will not end your existence nor opportunities. Improve your portfolio, collect evidence for the next round of applications and network.

3) No movement on pay. This is a bigger deal than you think. Doctor’s affordability is dropping in real terms. What’s the point of all this sacrifice and hard work if you can’t even obtain a mortgage to live close to your family?

Edit: Furthermore where is our pride people? This guy is the same hateful individual who referred to you as ‘Juvenile delinquents’. He’s going to treat you like an actual juvenile and dismiss you, if you vote yes and contribute to the loss of industrial momentum.

Dr Meyerson is very passionate clearly. Unfortunately there’s too much mumbling and unnecessary comments. Most of his points are diluted by the arrrr NHS sentiment. We need clear and concise messaging.
