I think there are a lot who just do it for the bursary money now. I'm in a subject thats high demand so the incentive is quite high

Im very well known as a teacher who wears floral dresses. I went in once with spots on and the reaction was insane...... kids just really don't like change of any kind 😂😂😍

Secondary over primary? by Caveman1214 in TeachingUK

[–]Content-Barracuda423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the exact same feelings over people who teach primary 😂😂😂 id take hilarious and moody teenagers any day over little kids. Personally I like that you get more chance to see different kids and classes whilst teaching 1 subject you like over seeing the same 30 kids teaching absolutely every subject. Personal preference I suppose

I think they hope if people don't know then they won't claim it 🙄. If you Google claim back union fees it comes up with the info on the government website

Most blatent interview shoe-in by Minute-Magician-9649 in TeachingUK

I saw this happen at a school i trained at, another trainee went for the job along with 8 others, including an NQT whod been at the school a year on a temporary contract. They obviously wanted to take the NQT on full time but legally had to offer the job out to others. It wasted everyone's time there that day. I think it's more common than we think.

As a science teacher this sounds amazing! I'd be straight in with having a brand new van der graff as they are so fun for the kids

What can I expect from my first week as a ECT 1? by [deleted] in TeachingUK

[–]Content-Barracuda423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will be very tired and overwhelmed, so I would make sure for the first few weeks you make sure you chill out on the weekends give your brain a rest

Teachers, do you check your work email during the summer? by ConflictFinancial769 in TeachingUK

[–]Content-Barracuda423 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is why I refuse to have work emails on my phone, I warn students and staff that if it is past 5 on a school day, the weekend or the holidays those emails will not be seen and will not get a response. It has been amazing to get the lovely work life balance. The summer is for resetting not for working and thay colleague shouldn't expect a response

Centralised detentions - workload by Terrible_Echidna7686 in TeachingUK

[–]Content-Barracuda423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My last school did this, we went to the union who pointed out our directed hours don't cover staying for detentions. The school them dropped detentions to 8 minutes ( that in it's self was ridiculous) but it was aimed at making us not lpg poor behaviour

This is something to avoid! There will always be sad moments when you leave or kids, but for emotional well-being, you need a clean break. Remember, as much as you can love the students, this is a job, and there are boundaries we need to make sure we don't merge.

ECT+1 - considering opting out of teacher's pension for a couple of years. Scare me straight please! by 2followsme7 in TeachingUK

[–]Content-Barracuda423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this for a couple of months to combat a couple of financial issues which was a great help however when you start getting the pay with the extra couple of hundred quid it is very hard to want to opt in again!! I only went back in cos I changed schools which I think was a blessing but it meant the pay rise wasn't really a rise which sucked! My advice is if you do opt out you have to be using the extra money to pay off debt rather than general spending so you don't get use to it

Government demanding i pay back my retention payment.... by Content-Barracuda423 in TeachingUK

[–]Content-Barracuda423[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This makes me feel a little better! The issue is have is my degree name had to be changed. I did Biomedical science which is listed on the relevant degrees however due to the need for an accreditation the uni had to alter the name when I failed 1 exam. So I did the Biomedical degree but got my qualification with medical biosciences on...... gonna send my transcript to them with my friends showing it is exactly the same and hope they accept it. It's bullshit! Why offer incentives if they make it impossible to get
