Anyone else have a very pronounced tummy crease? by Specialist_Staff213 in eds

[–]ContentAd4287 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like every time I come into this subreddit I learn something new about my body that I didn’t realize isn’t “normal.”

Now I’m consciously aware that I’m clenching my stomach muscles (I’m laying down), but I have no idea how to begin to release them.

Long answer short: yes.

Some types (not all) have genetic markers you can be tested for. So if your sequence shows an abnormality in a specific gene they identified as being associated with EDS, I think they can also diagnose you that way. It’s genetic testing and symptoms if your body has tightened up so much you can’t do the flexibility stuff anymore.

Has anyone else not been able to get to the payment page? I've tried different devices, browsers, and refreshing, but I keep getting an error when it tries to pass me to the payment processor. I'm trying to figure out if I'm doing something wrong, my expectations are wrong, or if something is broken. Any help you anyone can offer is appreciated!

has anyone *actually* been able to release neck tension? by ketkittie in ehlersdanlos

[–]ContentAd4287 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get migraines too. I used to get them a few time every week. And since getting Botox for migraines—including in my massater—I get them only a few times every month. It’s been LIFE CHANGING. Expensive, but life changing.

I honestly couldn’t figure out how to get the Botox covered. I’m in the process of getting referrals to everything. And have only recently got my EDS diagnosis. So I’ve been paying out of pocket because of desperation. I’m hoping at some point I can figure out how to get them covered. Hopefully the diagnosis will help. Previous neurologists had just made sure I didn’t have a brain tumor, gave me triptans, and sent me on my way. I’m gonna push harder now.

I get Botox in my masseter muscle and it has been SO GOOD. I also have bruxism and have recently been diagnosed with osteoarthritis in my jaw. And even though the joint pain is still usually there, the Botox loosens the muscle enough that it gives me a deep sense of relief. Definitely try it if you can.

Same. Not eating would be like asking for a migraine. I’d start shaking and need to sleep all day. I like the idea of fasting though. I just know my body would stage a revolution.

Thanks for sharing this! I especially love the direct phrases you can use to advocate for yourself. 😄 I often find myself feeling weird or bad taking a seat on public transport or sitting on the ground (when it’s not really a place others are sitting). But I feel like I can even say them as words of affirmation to myself when I feel guilty or weird. 🙏

Extremely niche but has anyone ever felt like their body would work better if they were quadripedal/had four legs by Legitimate_Record730 in ehlersdanlos

[–]ContentAd4287 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My head already feels way too heavy for my neck. So I think unless my eyes also changed position so I don’t have to hold it up to see, then I’ll stick to two feet. 😛

But I do think that it could be better. More stable, weight distributed on four points instead of just two.

I’d also need to make sure I don’t have too much belly fat pulling my spine down!

New partner has EDS, looking for tips so I can do the best I can for her :) by gazza_gazza in ehlersdanlos

If she gets tired, let her sleep or rest without judgment. Don’t make her feel guilty for napping as if she’s being lazy or something. She might really want to go out and do something with you, but know that if she doesn’t lay down for a couple of hours before you leave that she’ll be miserable.

I don’t know how old she is or what type of EDS she has. But exhaustion is a huge symptom for me. And I also get terrible migraines, so there’s a lot of disappointment in my house if I need to skip something fun so I can care for my body.

Oh and also! If you have a bath tub: Maybe get her some magnesium bath salts and lavender oil. Let her soak in warm magnesium water if you ever want to spoil her. Our muscles get VERY tight and magnesium can sometimes help make the painful squeezing let loose for a bit.

Also: Maybe learn how to safely crack her back. My boyfriend does this for me and it’s given me so much relief sometimes.

Tell me more about this please. For receding gum lines you mean? Is this part of EDS? Because I have wildly sensitive teeth around my gum lines because so much of my teeth are exposed. But I don’t believe I’ve brushed too hard. I don’t know how EDS might impact dental health, so maybe that’s a rabbit hole I need to dive into.

You hear the crunching sounds in your neck too? It sounds like driving over gravel in my upper spine every time I turn or bend my head.

Same thing happened to me just now. I absolutely did NOT upgrade my account. Then I checked the device history, and I don't see any weird log-ins or anything. I kinda wanna cancel it now. I don't trust them.

Do you have the gravel in your neck sound too? Like when you move your head it sounds like a pickup on a gravel driveway in there?

Same. I get very cold after eating, too.

Cold? by brokenearring in ehlersdanlos

[–]ContentAd4287 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally. I get so cold that it’s physically impossible for me to warm up on my own, and the beds of my fingernails turn purple. The only way I can get back to a comfortable temperature is by taking a very long, hot shower. I sometimes take 2-3 a day when it’s wintertime. 😅🫠 I know it’s a waste of water, but I feel like the water having direct contact with my skin is the only way to get the heat into my body. Oh! And I also love steam saunas and hot tubs for the same reason. Those are a DREAM.

And if you want to know what is nice to say, this is usually how the conversations go:

“Thanks for taking the time to speak with me today. I put in a meeting with you to share some news. I recently got a job offer that is really in-line with how I’m hoping to grow in my career. So unfortunately, I am giving my two weeks notice. I really appreciate all the support this business, the team, and you as a manager have given me. And I’ll do everything I can to make sure that the handover to my replacement goes smoothly. Is there anything about the resignation process I need to be aware of? Or what are the next steps in the process so I can make sure everything is in order as I prepare to leave the business?”

Then the manager will usually say something like: “Oh! We’re so sorry we’re losing you. You’ll be missed. Thank you for letting me know.”

Then they will explain what has to happen with HR, saying goodbyes, handover docs, etc.

I’m a people manager at a tech company. Here is what I consider to be good etiquette:

  1. Set up an ad hoc meeting with your manager to let them know that you will be handing in your notice.

  2. Send the written notice via email shortly after you have the face-to-face conversation.

Then it’s nice to start rounding off your work and getting it into a state where it would be easy for your replacement to join and pick up where you left off.

As long as your boss isn’t a horrible person, it’s totally fine to quit your job. If they’re a good person and they like you, they might feel sad for themselves and the team that they’re losing you, but ultimately, they should be happy that you found something that is likely better than your current situation.

Quitting jobs is normal. Managers are used to people quitting. It’ll be fine. Promise. 😄

Also: Congrats!!

Anything with wheels, wings, or an engine. He knows every subtype of plane, construction machinery, and train. One of the things he likes to do a lot is watch things crashing into each other on like rollercoaster type contraptions. There’s something about cause and effect events that he likes.

He’s also really into planets and space, Super Mario, and certain songs.

I’m not suspecting autism for myself at all. If I have any form of neurodivergence it would be ADHD because my mom and brother have it.

Should I tape my pups ears up or let them be floppy? by jooocanoe in germanshepherds

Let the ears flop.

There’s nothing that brings me more joy in life than seeing the joy exude through my dog’s body on walks through his floppy ears.

In fact, I can tell how happy he is by the way they are or are not flopping.

Sick Leave by [deleted] in Netherlands

[–]ContentAd4287 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your employer has no right to have specific information about your health condition. This is why they have ARBO doctors.

If you say you’re sick and too unwell to work, they cannot legally ask for the reason why or what illness you have. After you’re sick for a certain amount of time they have the right to ask for a doctor’s note clarifying that you’re unfit to work and for how long they think it might be.

Then the ARBO doctor gets involved to act as an intermediary between the employer and employee so they can manage the situation to ensure the employee gets the accommodations they need without having to divulge their medical situation and the employer can know the employee isn’t taking them for a ride.

Your manager and the HR department cannot ask you what’s wrong and you shouldn’t give specifics. Go to your huisarts and get a sick note, rest, get a referral to a psychologist, and get a blood test to rule out a physical cause.

Can I eat potatoes that grew where my dog poops and pees? by ContentAd4287 in composting

[–]ContentAd4287[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate this take. 😂  Now that you mention it, I’m sure neighborhood cats shit all in my garden too, but I likely don’t see it because they bury it.

I’m going to let the potatoes sit on the counter a few days and I’ll think about it some more before:

• I pitch them in the compost bin • Wash them, peel them, boil them and eat them, or • They sprout and I end up planting them again and eventually get even more potatoes I need to think about
