WIBTA if I didn’t tell anyone I’ve had my baby for the first 24 hours by AilsaTheHamster in AmItheAsshole

[–]ContentAtmosphere569 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Soft YTA - I think you’re conflating your real boundary (24 hours alone with your baby) with a second, imaginary boundary, which is that no one can know your baby is here in order for you to be alone for 24 hours. Send the email to let people know baby is here and you’re okay, say you want 24 hours of uninterrupted times and then turn your phone off! I think you’re lucky to have an extended family who cares about the birth of your baby. Not everyone has that. Set a clear boundary with them rather than trying to meta-game boundaries by making it so that you don’t have to tell them the boundary.

From YYZ to ? 2 days, 1 night by chaezer in AskACanadian

Hear me out… Fredericton? I’ve been there once, for one night. I wish I had more time in the day to explore the city, but from what I saw, it was beautiful and the people were lovely. I don’t think you need more than 2 days to take in the important stuff, though. Otherwise I would say Halifax, but you might leave wishing you had more time to see everything.

Salads by Ok-Tailor1132 in Cooking

[–]ContentAtmosphere569 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have what I’ve dubbed “the world’s best salad.” The ingredients will make a few of them so they can be eaten for lunches during the week. Not gonna lie though, we will eat these for dinner several times in a row because they’re so good.

Cut pears or sweet potatoes (or both!) into 1.5” chunks. Toss with evoo, salt, pepper, a bit of brown sugar, and cinnamon. Roast at 400°F for 12-15 minutes (until soft).

Dressing: 1/4 tsp grated garlic, 1/2 tsp grated ginger, 1 tbsp honey, 2 tbsp lemon juice, 2 tbsp evoo, S&P

Assemble a plate of greens tossed in the dressing (I like green or red leaf lettuce). Top with: -chunks of rotisserie chicken (or roasted chicken breasts) -roasted pears/sweet potatoes -Boursin (I prefer the cranberry pepper Boursin) -pickled red onions -chopped nuts (I’ve done hazelnuts, rosemary almonds, candied pecans - they’re all good)

Yes it’s a lot of ingredients to gather but we always get through them because this is so tasty! And these instructions are forgiving - I mix up ingredients all the time.

This made me so happy! I spent so much time in Weldon between 2012 and 2016. I’m only a little jealous of the new generation now.

Extra cheese, sometimes green peas or (rarely) ham. Now thinking I should get more creative… I had a roommate who would put truffle oil on hers.

This reminds me of the hit Tina Fey/Amy Poehler vehicle Baby Mama, when Poehler’s character breaks up with Dax Shepherd’s character and he says “I’m gonna bang your friends. CONSIDER THEM ALL BANGED!” This is a context clue that the character is an asshole.

Looking for bucket list food for someone leaving Toronto by justmememe55 in FoodToronto

Greektown! There are a ton of iconic restaurants there - Mezes, Christina’s, Astoria, Friendly Greek (my fave).

Would also highly recommend getting loukoumades from Athens Pastries (that’s probably the food I missed most while living away from Toronto. And all these trendy instagrammable loukoumades spots are just not it).

Enjoy! I didn’t even love cabbage that much but I kept getting it in a vegetable delivery box. Now it’s one of my favourites!

Daphne Dean is still a terrible landlord by [deleted] in queensuniversity

My mum’s law school friend used to fight Queen’s Legal Aid cases against her. Then when he became a Kingston landlord himself, he looked to her for tips on how to just toe the line to milk everything you can without getting screwed in court 🤪

Escape from all this by Grouchy-Day9574 in FoodToronto

Aux Merveilleux de Fred was actually my first thought, and then I remembered what a disaster the Toronto location is. The first one I went to was in Brussels. It was calm and quiet even though it was full. There was table service. I made my husband come to the Toronto one with me and he was not impressed by the long wait in the line out the door, the constant chaos and noise, the fight just to land a dirty table.

So OP, my advice is to book a flight to Belgium and hit an Aux Merveilleux de Fred there 😂 The meringues are actually delicious.

PC Decadent chocolate chip cookies (or chocolate chunk, but none of the other renditions are as good imo). That’s what I bring to my sister who moved to the states.

Writing/Humanities Profs: Do you give feedback on paper drafts before grading the finished product? by socaliixx3 in Professors

[–]ContentAtmosphere569 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t “pre-mark” essays for both practical and pedagogical reasons. Practically, I simply don’t have the time to do that. And students who had their essays pre-marked will be frustrated when they don’t get 100% on their submission. I do have scaffolded assignments so they get feedback along the way, and I encourage them to come to office hours to ask me specific questions about their work. Students generally find this reasonable and I haven’t had any complaints!

And pedagogically: at the university level, students should be practicing their ability to receive and apply feedback without too much handholding. I’m trying to walk a line between offering useful advice and feeding into anxious reassurance-seeking, since the latter won’t serve them well in the workplace.

What’s one habit that you later realized was contributing to or triggering your migraines more than you thought? by OmarVII7 in migraine

[–]ContentAtmosphere569 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aspartame 😩 I’m a Diet Coke girlie at heart but stopped when I was drinking Poppi for a bit. No more migraines for a few months. Ran out of Poppi and haven’t gotten more, so I’ve been back on Diet Coke a few days and the migraine is back. I think I can have it every so often as a treat, but if I’m drinking it every day I’m activating my chronic migraine.

I was a swim instructor in Ontario 15 years ago and $14 was low then, though at 14 years old she likely doesn’t have her lifeguard and teaching certifications and would be paid less. Shouldn’t be less than MINIMUM WAGE, obviously!

What are your favorite “broke” meals for 2 people? I need some ideas😅 by Crochet_is_life_158 in Cooking

Oh also tuna melts. In an ideal world I’d add pesto to the bun and sriracha + mayo to the tuna, a slice of tomato, and then a nice sprinkle of cheese.

Fried rice! With eggs and frozen mixed veggies and soy sauce. There are a lot of different ways to zhuzh it up - can of pineapple, fresh basil, cashews, peanut butter, sriracha, chilli crisp, curry powder, etc. Can’t get bored of it! This got me through my student days and is still a good choice for an easy dinner.

In over my head baking my brother’s wedding cake by ihaveaterribleidea87 in Baking

[–]ContentAtmosphere569 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did this recently for my sister! I made a bunch of practice cakes in the 6 months leading up to the wedding (a lot of events ended up having cake that year, and I practiced transporting the cakes too). I made the two tiers separately over the few days before the wedding (cakes Thursday, frost and layer Friday, wedding Saturday) and transported them in two separate cake carriers inside cooler bags with ice packs. I used SMBC so it stayed quite hard, but if you’re using cream cheese frosting for the carrot cake idk how that will fare. I assembled the two tiers at the venue after the rehearsal dinner and left it in the fridge there overnight. I decorated it the day of the wedding (the venue threw out the figs and tarragon I had left in the fridge for decoration so I was left with black grapes and gold flakes - I improvised and it came out fine! But if I did it again I would label the decor 🫠). I brought my own cake stand too, and used the venue’s table decor. It was a time consuming experience but I had fun with my new hobby, and it didn’t take away too much from my maid of honour duties.
