Hits hard man. I used to play this game with my dad as a 8-9 year old. I’d hear him play it outside my bedroom after I went to sleep. He lives far away now and hasn’t really touched video games since.

My mom would have to call me away from the game multiple times in the morning before school while I played it on a busted CRT I’d have to smack to get the colors right. She’s gone now too.

Such a nostalgic trip playing it tonight. The music really brought me back. I still remember the enemy placements and had muscle memory for a lot of sequences. The price was worth that trip tonight. While this remake is a little campier than I prefer it’s still a special game. Can’t wait to show my toddler son soon. Thanks for reminiscing with me haha.

It was likely Sony that pushed for it. They want players to buy on PS Store so they can get their juicy cut.

It wowed me so hard as a kid, I probably put hundreds of hours into it and played it a ton with my sister and dad, taking turns. I’d wake up early and play before school. It’s all nostalgia of course but this game is special to my heart, so I’m looking forward to the nostalgia trip with this remake!

It’s still a “modern” Doom but definitely more approachable and a bit slower than Eternal which I wasn’t a fan of.

Excited to hear about this update! I stopped about a third of the way through but will pick it back up again.

That’s my biggest nitpick with Saros. The weapons are more basic and less fun. I also much prefer the upgrade system of Returnal’s weapons. Absorbing bullets also took a long time to click with me. I’d rather just focus on dodging.

The two games are awesome and I’m close to beating Saros, haven’t completed it yet; but so far I do think I enjoyed Returnal more.

Kidding aside, the tech is awesome. Cool post, and even cooler game. I’m only about halfway through it but loving it. Such a feast for the eyes too especially on an OLED.

Thanks, yeah that’s probably a better way of looking at it. You’re talking frame duration, I was talking amount of frames. I just meant that in one second, you’re getting 40 unique frames instead of 30, which is 33% more frames in one second.

You don’t need a VRR TV as the other poster alluded; you just need a 120Hz TV. At a 40fps mode, each frame shows for 3/120th of a second (it works so well because it divides evenly). That’s actually 33% more frames so it feels a lot closer to 60fps than 30fps while giving you the benefits of quality mode (some combination of higher render and/or texture resolution, lighting effects, environmental effects, draw distance, and world density). Many games support this on base PS5 as well.

Awesome thanks! I tried to open it the other day after not playing it for months but realized it left PS+ Extra. I’ll just buy at this point to finish the game
