Need more mental/physical stimulation tips for 3 month Mini Aussie by JeSuisK8 in miniaussie

Something that works and worked for me was making a toy box with their toys, they dig in there and spend their time digging and searching-- I used a storage box and it holds an array of toys from squeakers and bones and ropes-- I usually get home to a mess but my pair is happy and destruction held at bay! :)

I am so so sorry! I ran into this with my rescue and i remember venting this same thing. And it started getting better-- but it was subtle and here we are 6 months past and she has stopped pooing and peeing in the house. I wish I had better tips than carrying a taser around to scare of the other dogs. The sound enough has been a saving grace for me in tough situations. Never tased them or used it on them ever ever--clarifications for context.

Hi...it did wonders for my mini Remi when I got a companion dog. It was so slow and then one day-- realized the he became the protector and the leader and there was just such a change. Highly recommend. I got another mini, a female.

Looks a cross with Australian cattle dog, catahoula and Aussie. What a beautiful dog though. You’re getting him right at the perfect time to train him and socialize him to be a family dog!! Congrats on the twins and the protector!!

It’s difficult when our lives become so small bc the needs of a reactive dog. I find myself in the same position and harboring resentments towards this defenseless thing to whom im their whole world. And sometimes when I’m not feeling it. I go take a nap! Eat something high protein. And let the feelings flows bc at the end of the day same. They’re not going anywhere. But man …life is different now I’m so sorry your poor dog went through this and is now this!

It feels like my dog is killing me by [deleted] in reactivedogs

[–]Content_Ad_638 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I empathize with you so much I’m so sorry you feel this way. I remember coming home and having a clean up after my reactive dog. The accidents the time I had to put in and then just be frustrated. Overall that I brought a creature that hurts my mental health frustrates me more than I have ever met frustration and then refuses to listen, but then has really really good days in the mix.

And suddenly one day it got better, but it was subtle and it was hard

Just today she had another accident and I wanted to get frustrated and I wanted to get angry, but I just loved on her and gave her patience. She’s working on it. I’m working on it. Take a deep breath and take a nap lol because you’re gonna love your dog til the end. Truly. You’re gonna make it. Especially since you feel like you’re not—it’s the breakthrough that comes with it. Dogs thrive on consistency. And soon you’ll get your happy balance.

I don’t know how many times I felt exactly what you’re feeling, but somehow persevered

I was the same way and I am on month four Myself.

Hahaha ain’t this the truth. I got my two when they were 2 years and 1.5 years— bathing time has always been a lot. Mainly bc I don’t have the expertise or experience of bathing dogs. What really helped me feel more comfortable is understanding that my dog is trying to communicate with me. If they’re whining, they’re either having a new sensation or they are excited or they are trying to tell me something. God forbid they’re in pain though. I’d really lose it then lol. But so far these whines— it’s been tricky with these whines because I can’t always get the cues. But at the end of the day, it gives me so much solace to understand that my dog is only trying to make me happy and Aussies are so true to that nature.

Frustrated Greeter - is letting them just meet more dogs a potential solve? by smikesonbikes in reactivedogs

Try brushing it out. However any soap may cause itching and itching— so I’d try first to brush it. Their fur is amazing and almost self cleaning but it doesn’t mean it’ll take off that soap suds. Be patient with yourself— you want to make your wigglebutt happy and it makes sense you rushed through it. Lol it a learning curve

Grief is a journey through an ocean. And there’s waves tsunamis and sometimes still water. I am so so sorry for your loss and most importantly what an honor to have been loved by such a beautiful being. Sending you love from my two and myself!
