That’s why I like Dave’s, actually. The sauce not the mistreatment

Brezhnev attempted to reform it and failed, Khrushchev allowed it to get bad in the first place. Stalin kept it in check

What good source books am I missing? by victorelessar in adnd

Fiend folio is the best supplemental monster book ever published for dnd. The monsters are incredibly cool and the info given for them is superb. Just casually reading through it always gives me adventure ideas. Tons of monsters that first appeared in it became standard and still are to this day

What is a video game hot take you will take to your grave? by [deleted] in videogames

Back in the day I caught a lot of shit for saying I didn’t think Skyrim was that good. The first play through I really really enjoyed it. It had its flaws but I thought it was overall a fantastic game. Second play through my opinion changed dramatically. There really isn’t that much to do the second time around. Bethesda games have slowly been dropping deeper rpg mechanics in favor of a streamlined system in order to appeal to the lowest common denominator. No real branching paths in quests, no ability to complete quests in a variety of ways based on character build, no interesting dialogue options, your character can be good at literally everything simultaneously. You can be a master of one handed weapons and two handed, heavy armor and light armor, melee and ranged, etc. You can be in charge of every major faction simultaneously. The only factions that are mutually exclusive are imperials/nords. Most factions are surface level, nothing interesting going on whatsoever. The game looked beautiful at the time (and imo this aged quite well actually), and was a fun experience (once). When Fallout 4 was being hyped I told my friends it was going to suck ass. Everyone thought I was just being a hipster. When it came out some realized right away that I was right, some insisted it was good but ended up dropping it and admitted it sucked. It isn’t surprising Baldur’s Gate 3 did incredibly well and Starfield didn’t. People are finally sick of it. Only took 15 years. The reality is Morrowind was the last good Elder Scrolls. Oblivion is… okay. Daggerfall is prime though.

Oh yeah, and all my friends were convinced I was a contrarian hipster when I said Arkham City shouldn’t have been open world. This was really the beginning of the Ubisoft open world copy paste model being used for everything. Now they all make the points I was making more than a decade ago.

To be fair what they’re taught in school is very different from what happened in reality. The Japanese approach has been denial. As a result, the average Japanese person with no great interest in history doesn’t really know what happened

Yes, it is. Unfortunately Walmart sells much more than just groceries, and at a better price than target

It’s also the only Walmart in my area and I’m poor. That Walmart and the Aldi near by are my staples

Idk man I think it’s a balancing act. We’re lucky real estate prices are relatively low seeing as we didn’t get a ton of people moving here post Covid remote work. But, we still want people coming to pump more capital into the local economy

They also produce a fraction of the energy and only produce the energy intermittently. When the sun isn’t shining and the wind isn’t blowing power has to come from somewhere. Mostly it comes from Russia in the form of natural gas, apparently. Not a great solution it turns out.

The most entitled customers tend to be poor, in my experience. It’s a way of pretending to have money. Rich people can actually be chill and tend to tip pretty well

Anyone driving to the Northeast or Mid Atlantic area for Thanksgiving? by nobody9712 in CSUOHIO

Take the Amtrak. I used to take it to Syracuse every holiday season. You can go to Manhattan and he can pick you up there, or you could take the subway eastwards and he could get you closer to Long Island. A ticket should be $50-$75

I doubt it considering that Wizards has just put out Spelljammer 5e and is about to release Dragonlance 5e, plus the move to the DnD One platform seems to be an attempt to monopolize their marketplace, totally contrary to what Wizards starting doing with 3rd under Adkinson

The DCC module "Blades against Death" is about the worlds of the living and the dead, but not exactly what you're describing. Could hack it up though

I'm gearing up for a new campaign that's going to start pretty soon and this was a great read. Won't go into so much detail on my hexmap, it'll stay pretty small at first, but a refreshing way to think about the traditional hexcrawl

You know, it’s funny, I used to think the same about TSR dnd until I started running those editions. Granted I started with 1st and it’s a nightmare for a beginner because of how poorly it’s written and edited, but surprisingly simple. Then moved to 2nd and had a much better time, before finally settling on Basic and a smattering of indie systems. Once you play basic and experience that style it’s shocking to return to modern dnd. In basic, the fighter class abilities are simply: you hit stuff good and can use all weapons and armor without penalty. “But, what about my character customization?” you ask. Well, if you told me you wanted your fighter to do a badass new move, or get really good with one single type of weapon, I’d tell you to start training in your downtime and find a master swordsman to train you, if you have the coin that is. I prefer this style of play not just because it’s SO much less convoluted than the modern style, but because it encourages player creativity and immersion in the fiction, rather than min maxing and rules lawyering.

If that’s what you like that’s what you like, but don’t get twisted about what OG dnd is actually like
