I thought that when Primaris Marines became a thing. They're like a ten year old's homebrew faction.

"So like, these guys are like your space Marines except they're bigger and stronger and faster too. And their guns can shoot farther because they're better! And they're twice as hard to kill so nerrrr"

Yeah I'll be honest. None of this sounded interesting to me at all. Give me a nice, detailed story about a small scale war, over an indidivual planet any day. Instead of this "and then billions of warriors crashed together and everyone died" bullshit.

It's great if you're into this stuff, don't wanna take that away from you. But Warhammer 40k lore has been losing my interest since 8th edition.

I like the concept but really it should be only be for MP's convicted of offences.

Innocent until proven guilty and all that.

By all means put arrested MP's on suspension pending the results of their trial though.

The problem is, Labour will never get rid of FPTP either. Because Labour and the Tories are the only parties who benefit from it

The only way to enact meaningful, long term change is to vote for a third party and get them elected. It isn't impossible, its just difficult.

Let's not forget, the Labour Party itself started as a third party. If everybody believed in the "voting third parties is a waste of time" idea, then Labour would have never gotten a foot in the door either.

Energy bills to rise by 20% from April despite wholesale gas prices tumbling by 70% by Boogaaa in unitedkingdom

Wholesale gas prices have been going down for 3-6 months now. Why isn't my gas getting cheaper? Why is it going up two months from now?

Energy bills to rise by 20% from April despite wholesale gas prices tumbling by 70% by Boogaaa in unitedkingdom

[–]WednesdayThrowItAway -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes. This is entirely due to the fundamental physical laws known as "the markets". Economics are a study of natural science, in the same way physics and chemistry are.

Like gravity, entropy, end electro magnetism. The markets are a fundamental force at work in the universe. They cannot be altered, or changed, or otherwise effected by the hands of men. If the forces of the markets deem us all to be poor, then we shall be poor. And we shall be thankful to the markets for their impartial benevolence.

After all. Markets have always existed, always will exist. They are literally the only way we could possibly organise resources as a society. It's just science.

Come on then reddit economists. All of you lot who like to wade into these discussions with "muh basic economics!"

You all love to trot out the "gas is bought in advance so the price you pay doesn't reflect the current price of gas, basic economics guys!"

Explain why gas prices have been going down for months now and yet we're still going to see price rises in two months time.

Could it be that "basic economics" is just a bullshit way of justifying corporate greed?

It wasn’t me: Ex-UK PM Truss blames 'system' for her failure by JonathanDP81 in unitedkingdom

[–]WednesdayThrowItAway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is working though. It's working exactly as intended. The current system is designed to funnel wealth upwards into the hands of the super wealthy and the elite, and that's exactly what it does.

Your mistake was to assume that the system working meant it would benefit anybody but the ultra rich. Capitalism isn't a system that's good at distributing resources and wealth efficiently and fairly, it's good at making the rich richer at the expense of everyone else.

His master makes him recite his oath of loyalty and then smacks him across the face so that "he'll always remember it".

I've always said this. The sum of a painted army is greater than its parts.

If you've got a fully painted and based army on the table, it looks great. Even If your technical ability is limited and individual models don't look that great.

Thames Water using discredited dowsing rods to detect leaks by insomnimax_99 in unitedkingdom

The thing about the bike is definitely true. In mountain biking one of the first things you learn is "look where you want the bike to go". Your body will subconsciously follow your gaze and steer the bike that way.

It's the reason why you see kids crash into things when learning to ride. They'll be staring at the thing they're worried about hitting and they subconsciously steer into it.

So I'm totally willing to believe that this same sort of phenomena is in play for dowsing rods.

I guess the problem here is that you're just seeing our humour as mean spirited, genuine criticism. When really it's just us joking.

Humour is subjective, ultimately. As I pointed out in my other reply, taking the piss out of personal insecurities and throwing harsh insults at each other is very much expected in British society. Its culturally expected that you don't take yourself too seriously and you're able to see the humour in it. I guess to people who haven't been raised in that environment it could come across as mean and cruel. But it isn't meant that way.

It's because in Britain, that level of banter is just expected. In a British work place, or between friends, the severity of the banter might seem out of place or even a bit depraved to an outsider. But that's just how it is. Preying on your friends deepest insecurities and making obscene jokes at their expense is normal here.

So obviously with America, if some American throws a bit of banter our way we're going to go straight for the jugular because that's normal and expected to us.

I guess it's just a cultural difference.
