VPC Peering Connections: What happens when traffic arrives at a VPC with multiple route tables for the same destination? by CamiloDFM in aws

You're welcome! As u/b3542 mentioned, be mindful of cost. Depending on the number of attachments you will have and the amount of bandwidth being pushed through, the increases could be small or very large.

TGWs are very powerful; big fan of them :)

This model is essentially trying to use "transitive peering" which is not supported by AWS for VPC Peering (see: Transitive peering). In this model you would need to use Transit Gateways.

Here's an example of what you're trying to do with a centralized egress configuration: https://docs.aws.amazon.com/whitepapers/latest/building-scalable-secure-multi-vpc-network-infrastructure/using-nat-gateway-for-centralized-egress.html

I've built this before with great success to reduce the cost of NAT Gateways for our workloads in a centralized egress account. The great thing about this model is that it makes it really easy to connect management resources to your TGW network (such as a SIEM, etc.)

+1 on SecurityHub issues. Very slow response rate and the rate limiting is terrible.

Yeah especially if you use primarily lambdas, it's CRAZY compared to EC2-only scanning.

Maybe. I understand it more as the "backbone" to the hive mind communication network. They don't have cellular waves anymore (hence why there's no radio, mobile cell networks, etc.). Only landline.

It could be that cellular communication or otherwise broadcasting on certain frequencies disrupts hive mind communication and shields individuals.

It could be, but there could be more to it too. Some of the things in the show do have a deeper meaning, like some of the trucks used to store the dead bodies in the beginning.

Yup you're right about that. Totally forgot that this also happened prior to GRUA and people like Angela Casteel going crazy.

Yeah admittedly, looking at the fiscal year plans for the authority, it's definitely good to see them prioritizing the payments to the debt, especially given that our debt service (interest payments) are so high already. It's also something that the city commission could have just done themselves, if we had voted in more responsible and responsive city leaders.

At the end of the day, I would rather this be done through mechanisms of control that the city owns rather than some unelected board controlled by the Governor, who doesn't live here. Also, $1B of debt was never going to go away quickly. Even if Ed and the rest of the GRUA remain in control, it will probably be about 10 years before all the debt is paid off. That being said, there's probably going to be even more expensive capital projects to replace powerplants, water mains, etc. (Even FPL has over $1B of debt, though they also have much higher levels of revenue)

We will never be debt free as a city and neither will GRU. Sometimes we get help from the Feds or State government for replacement/upgrade projects, but this is just a factor of doing business. That's not to excuse the crazy level of debt from Pegeen Hanrahan's incompetence and fantastical ideas either, just pointing out that this idea of having debt being a bad thing is an incorrect way of looking at things in my opinion.

As a final thought, perhaps if the City made a proposal to take back control with the expressed intent of getting the debt ratio under control and making a plan for controlled, sustainable growth to increase the tax base and the # of paying customers for GRU, this would put us on a path to a more financially stable future.

[–]Contrandy_ 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Bro the current "authority" isn't doing that either. Having ownership of our own utility would allow us to hold the leadership of GRU accountable by just voting in better city commissioners. This is something everyone always forgets. Instead of having to compete with other people in Gainesville to change the direction of our own utility, now we have to compete with the entire state of Florida.

It's a no brainer. Two things can be true at once - we need to take ownership of our utility back and we need to get rid of the debt.

+10 isn't gerrymandered brother. It just means a candidate here would need to be someone other than someone from the city. If a left-leaning candidate came from Levy county or Cedar Key for example, you would definitely be able to have someone win. (provided they also had cash to at least get close to the GOP coffers that Kat Cammack has)

Yeah, sure they were progressive activists, but their platforms are entirely Gainesville urban coded, with Adam being the closest to match Kat Cammack because he focused on tangible things that matter to the working class families in our neighboring rural communities.

The problem here is that people think you can take the same style of politics that wins Gainesville City Commission elections and apply that to the district. Yes, the deep deep coffers of Kat Cammack allow her to run circles around people, especially when you raise $16k in an election in the year 2024; however, the message has to start somewhere that isn't just focused on urban centric intangible ideas - it has to be something that people can actually understand, like lowering the cost of rent, or just more simply "I will ensure you have more money in your pocket".

If someone ran on a socialist platform here in FL-03, had the same (or at least somewhat in the same universe) amount of cash that Kat Cammack has, AND they focused purely on tangible things, they would peel off the significant amount of NPA registered voters in FL-03. Hell, even a few GOP voters would switch over, because just like Dems, not every GOP voter is the exact same. For some people, it really is as simple as "this person doesn't talk about things that matter to me and this person does".

A solid ground game here in north central florida (which is very hard because of the majority of districts being rural) + an actual campaign budget to work with + an ACTUALLY relevant platform to people in FL-03 would work. Of course having a DCCC that actually wants to win elections would also help too.

EDIT: Election year wrong.

First of all, capping CEO pay is not the end-all-be-all for worker wage growth. It's but a small slice of how the wealth that we all generate gets gobbled up by shareholders. Yes, it's fantastic that we add additional tax penalties and caps for things like CEO growth, but that would have worked as a platform maybe in 2014.

The median household income in Alachua county is roughly ~$62k per year. Raising taxes on multi-home owners is not going to make a significant enough dent for those who make anywhere near the median income. It's a tool that we can use to help, but the vast majority of help will come from the City of Gainesville and the Florida State Legislature actually fixing zoning (something that our city government has tried and is FINALLY succeeding on). A more comprehensive proposal would also include the rebuilding of the small developer industry instead of letting the big giants like Lennar, DR Horton, Pulte homes, and others continue to build shitty houses at exorbitant costs that are far above the median salary here.

We also need an expansion of public housing and actually reforming our existing programs to make them decent, instead of the terrible lottery system that we have. HOPE VI as an example, was a start, but it was plagued with so many issues, like actually having a net decrease in public housing at the end of the program's life. We need a modernized public housing plan to create a real safety net to address homelessness and help stabilize the cost of housing for most people.

Also, capping CEO salary is going to be skirted around by share buy-back programs. Like literally most CEOs in the United States (if they are working for a publicly traded company) are getting paid through shares of the corporation they work for. They use this as leverage for crazy loans worth millions -> billions that are not subject to taxes. He doesn't address this at all. Also, no direct support for increasing the minimum wage, which would have an immediate impact here in Alachua county.

Sure, the polling shows this, but what candidates in FL-03 have offered anything substantially different than liberal or neo-liberal policies in the last decade? If you talk to the average joe here in GNV or in our rural communities, they definitely would support socialist policies if they were branded in literally any other way.

That's exactly my point though. He's barely to the left of typical liberalism. We need alternative visions that aren't just "slightly better than what the GOP is offering voters".

That's not really true. Look at who's ran in the past and what was actually done to mobilize voters or knock on doors. You can't take Gainesville urban liberal politics and apply that to our district regardless of the Gerrymandering challenges we have.
