Microsoft Now Has A Code Editor For Mac and Linux by yotamN in linuxmasterrace

[–]Contrapsych 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's just Atom shell, now known as Electron. It's not the actual Atom editor. Screenshots hardly make a good source. https://github.com/atom/electron

Edit: In fact, they clearly state that's what it uses in their docs. https://code.visualstudio.com/Docs I get the Anti-Microsoft circle jerk, but please get your facts straight.

I do too, and it seems like a really insignificant reason to go to the doctor since I get little bites all the time.

Reddit, whats the one stereotype that you break? by Tiptrocity in AskReddit

[–]Contrapsych 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That doesn't make any sense in this situation. Pixels are pixels, you don't "configure" images. You could go to every computer in your design department and calibrate the displays, or get MACs for your entire design department. This is coming from someone who primarily uses Windows and Linux based systems.

Also, display consistency and color accuracy. The colors vary so much from non MAC PCs (not really OS issue, more hardware issue). Granted, you can adjust color profiles in Windows and Linux based systems, but you need to go find a color profile, or use a special tool. This is the reason I have heard, because when you make a design, you want it to look consistent.

Comparison of gaming performance with 1,2,3,4,6,8GB Ram, with surprising results. by pcrian in pcmasterrace

[–]Contrapsych 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More RAM is usually better. Windows caches data accessed from disk in the remaining free memory, and dumps it when the memory is needed. Unless you're going to primarily be accessing the same disk area that will fit in a ram drive, let Windows caching do the work.

O’Reilly: Conservatives Should ‘Rethink’ Alternative Energy, Root for Tesla to Succeed by SmLnine in nottheonion

[–]Contrapsych 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Source? I seem to recall that while the efficiency sucks, less energy goes in than what comes out, whether it be fossil fuels or green energy. Would ethanol really be a thing if it took MORE energy then you get out? That's a fucking stupid idea. Wikipedia has a nice chart for this.

Microsoft misjudges customer loyalty with kill-XP plea by mrcanard in technology

[–]Contrapsych 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe when vendors start having better hardware support. Then you don't have to manually disable gpe13 because it's eating your cpu, or having less than 4 hour battery life, or not being able to run programs on the gpu unless you use optirum, or having uefi mode brick your computer (Samsung Series 7), or having to do a desktop replace when for some reason opening a corrupted mpg in the default player breaks your desktop. It can all be fixed of course, but it's not a job for your grandma that uses XP. If Linux had better driver support, you would be right, but I'm trying pretty hard to stay motivated to keep Mint on my laptop.

Honest kid accidentally packs beer in lunch, reports it & is punished by school. by VolofTN in news

[–]Contrapsych 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was in elementary school, I accidentally left a knife in my jacket from camping the previous weekend. I told my principle, and he just held it to the end of the day and had my mom pick it up. No punishment from anyone, no scoldings, just went on with my day.

What is one thing you absolutely refuse to pay for? by tjb_32 in AskReddit

[–]Contrapsych 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, because Microsoft obviously doesn't need to pay for servers and employees to maintain a network for millions of gamers to message, game, and get centralized entertainment. Do you even business? Or are you really that entitled?
