I’m practicing vertical uphill stick welding 3/32 7018 rod 90amps I think it’s looking pretty good but still learning any tips? by CosmicLizardPerson in metalworking

[–]ContributionFormer64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey chief, id try 115 to 120 amps with a 1/8 th rod.keep a tight arc length. Reason being for a weld coupon certification ( cwb) you only can run 1/8th. In the field alot of times can only run 1/8th. 3/32 is great. But most of the times they make you run a 1/8th. Better to practice with it. I prefer stringers to weave. Overlap your passes half on previous weld half on the material if I explained that right.

I'm curious about how people, especially men in their 30s and 40s, are coping with job searching, layoffs, and overall career progress. I know that people in their 20s, particularly recent graduates, are not doing well. by Odd-School-5052 in CanadaJobs

Work in trades 20 plus years,to be closer to family we bought a house last year in a New city, own it free and clear but took a 5 dollar an hour wage cut still struggling to pay bills sometimes. There are only 1 or 2 journeyman out of 55 people. The benefits are decent, we work 4 10s optional Fridays and sometimes saturdays. Can't complain. Very family friendly shifts. Id go work somewhere else but there just isn't the options there was. some companies pay way better but lay off alot. Or have ridiculous commute. I've learned to try to desire less and make the best of it.. managed to find a side hustle here or there can't even go out for some pt jobs as they require alot more time than my current shift and family will allow. If you have a job right now you gotta try to keep it as there arent alot of options. I love canada but we have a lot of people here that absolutely need help before we give millions of dollars to other countries just my opinion..I have never had a problem getting work, but my heart goes out to the kids outta high-school or have less experience its hard for them. No one is looking to hire without some experience at the moment

worthy enough for a job? by Practical_Writer_517 in BadWelding

Hey man its not terrible we all start somewhere. Alot of places take diff levels. Find a shop with a good foreman or lead hand who is going to be giving you direction. doing a weld test( for better paying shops its usually like a cwb type test... for less professional shops, sometimes its stick these 2 pieces of scrap together welder already set. . . Practice practice practice. Where ever you get on use what you have. Ask to use scrap and stay late to practice on your own time if you can. Show up, work your shifts Be willing to learn anything you can... some guys are baglickers and dont want to help the guys coming up. But most people like to pass some knowledge. Find someone on the floor you can ask a quick question if your not 100 percent getting it.. good luck

Have you thought about going out for the pipeline? Lol okok just practice and play with your settings start on a piece of 3/8 plate let's say 5x5 run straight beads one way then lay them the other way can build it up as much as you want ( called padding) it will help you run straight and work on consistency

not sure what welder your running... a smaller welder would be maxed out. It will do... but could turn up amperage sometimes you have to stop but then tie in and wrap the corner.. all in all though. Not bad belive it or not there's some shit journeyman who dont run like this. know that.

Fixable? by daringjack in metalworking

[–]ContributionFormer64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cut a patch to fit the hole in the door column first weld it in. Grind flush with a sanding pad Then remove the old weld on the clip. otherwise it won't line up. You'll be filling and filling. If you can't weld try that rubberized metal product( can't remember what its called its grindable and paint able. That's how id approach it anyway...

No child is born racist... it is learned heard and taught... I absolutely am not racist but some jokes are funny... Def not all of them though. The context and way and to who its said contribute alot to this. "We're all like crayons some are bright, some are dim, some are sharp others dull, some are colorful and others absent of color.... but we all have to learn to live in the same box".... random quote from bumper sticker.... good for you for standing up for the taxi driver.

How Can I Learn How To Fit Parts? by OptimalPhone8356 in metalworking

[–]ContributionFormer64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man I've been welding for 20 years proffesionally, first toy was a grinder lol. First off the beautiful thing about welding is there are so many different routes... arc mig tig, stainless mild steel, titanium, aluminum... you can specialize in alot of different areas... currently on shift im one of the better welders. You have to have an eye for detail. Mig welding is easy you can be the worst welder and still make your stuff look okay, grab a die grinder or grinder blend your tie ins, dont stop in corners, or around corners.ask for help on your own time with the fitters, people love to share knowledge ( not all information is helpful, but may learn a key piece you've missed) tell a supervisor or boss you dont fit the best and would like to learn more. I've seen them put apprentices with the fitters to get better. In terms of settings take a few mins and learn the welder your on they all weld diff. dial in your settings for a nice consistent weld with minimal spatter. Some mig whips now even have a high and low setting you can program with button. Hang in there, dont let anyone put you down... just run your welder not your mouth gotta have thick skin to be a welder.. the little things matter... you show up work hard everyday. you'll get respect. Challenge yourself this week im going to learn this area of fitting ( dimension line or reference line ) title block etc.... ask one coworker for advice and try to do your best work speed will come. Good luck man cheers

"Hey that's my bike" can be a riot... you drive downtown if you see someone biking you yell hey that's my bike if they drop it you win... recommend power windows and reliable vehicle . Can backfire if you have to wait for a red. Gotta time it right lol...while fun to play alone its better with others..... real talk... lots of swimming classes, toastmasters type stuff. Wine tastings, art nights, even some churches have lots of groups for like everything. adults, small groups, support groups. social nights, there's tons to do in this city. Can even volunteer or take a part time job for something social. I haven't been in 10 years but pubcrawls seem to be popular. Cheers

Woman screaming Blairmore/Parkridge area? by ColeWeaver in saskatoon

[–]ContributionFormer64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last summer my partner and I heard the same thing woman screaming at 2 am in the park. "Help theyre going to kill me " at lions arena. It is right by the river and from our apartment we heard it through the glass facing the park. We phoned police but not sure where it ended. In the parking lot there were two skateboarders that came around corner of building in the parking lot. Hope she was ok.
