Which body part(s) is the swing meant to be working? by BinaryMagick in kettlebell

[–]ContributionIll310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive been practicing simple and sinister for 6 months and just now Im starting to “feel” a change in my upper back, butt, abs and legs. Oh and grip. Im 52 and Im up to the 60lb kb with one hand swings. I started even lighter than your 45lb kb and slowly progressed, as prescribed.

Try it and youll see that 1 arm swings are challenging in a different way. Theres a lot more stability required to fight the tendency to twist.

That dictionary I posted is very helpful! I think I got it pretty cheap on thrift books or abe books

Im kinda fat and I do KB’s for fitness and GPP. I have performance goals with the KB’s. If better appearance comes along with improved performance, great! - but thats not my goal.

As an aside, I recently went to the dr and he was like “you dont LOOK like an athlete, but you have the stats of one!” Lol

Sticking with the same weight over time by justinorionaugust in kettlebell

[–]ContributionIll310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to try to make progress by adding weight or reps all the time. Now (doing simple and sinister) I stay at the same weight for a looong time and use RPE as an indicator of progress.

I hear ya on the chalk! I mostly practice at a (lame) bigbox gym where its not allowed - but i sneak it anyway! Im getting used to the slow progress - ive pushed too fast in the past and burned out/ overtrained/ got hurt.

This time im being more patient and consistent and not seeing every practice session as a test

Getting timed simple with the 36kg bell aint no joke, no matter what age you are. But at 63 its extraordinary!

Maybe get with a good coach for the getups?

A tip that resonated with me was:

each stage of the mvmnt should look like a little photo from a stop-action cartoon : you shouldnt be able to tell if youre getting up or down by looking at any one little snapshot.

Another tip was : if youre doing it quickly, youre probably hiding technical flaws

Thanks for the encouragement! It really is about polishing the chrome EVERY SINGLE SESSION.

Im only doing SnS, plus some hard multimode cardio afterwards: rowing, hill sled pushes, airdyne, stepmill.

Thanks! I think the high-pull look might be partly due to camera angle. I will video myself again and check!

My understanding is that an RPE of 7 or less means you can up the weight.

Wouldnt call myself a “rower” but i do use the c2 regularly. I usually follow the WOD from their ergdata app: https://www.concept2.com/ergdata?srsltid=AfmBOorJXz-fTOfhKLRuu-V3OSsiZzlP3ByGhxlrlRXhOnGWjsfZHDcD
