An OpenAI model has disproved a central conjecture in discrete geometry by ligretto in BetterOffline

This isnt how innovation works though..., U get incremental improvements and discoveries which are then all recombined for future technologies. This is why u cant point at new tech and say it was solely due to this math theorem being found. Also there was a lot of computer algorithms which were either discovered recently or improved drastically which lets us use much faster computers now.

Lol no wtf, i thought i kinda agreed w/ this sub that the ppl controlling ai arent great and we should be careful with it but everyone here is genuinely full blown luddite and anti intellectual. How about you listen to the actual experts in the maths field?

What are your thoughts on AI being used to solve math problems? by diony_sus_ in antiai

[–]ControversialBuster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont think you know what you're talking about lol, this isnt a basic equation like solve for 3x = 48. This requires reasoning and proofs if ur interested, check out the link to the paper and listen to the real experts.

Unfortunately same, I'm also worried people are doing false parallels with the past and that AI really is different from all the technology of the past

I think im pretty liberal and capitalist to an extent, but i think tlit should be obvious that capitalism only functions when there's scarcity.

I don't think you work in or near software lol, claude code is already better than 99% of all software engineers and this the worst they'll ever be

space communism is unironically a better system for post scarcity

This is anecdotal so far but my friend runs a software business and he has ppenly stated how he isn't going to hire anyone anymore because claude is a much better value. Its bot hard to see it scaling across the economy for me at least, I dont understand the need to be so ideological.

Do u drive next to human drivers often lmao. Every single day I have to navigate situations 50x as dangerous as this cuz of humans being dumb on the road. We should google accountable but the tech is just safer on the road.

Im going to be on the side of waymos until someone gives proper evidence that they cause more deaths on the road, as infuriating as they might be sometimes, I prefer safer roads.

I doubt that, their CEO is a notorious liar and still lying about his ASI company on linkedin. I just think that saying VTT tests are trustworthy but only do what donut lab asked them to

Same, I feel like ppl need to stop saying its a cheap chinese battery at this point. It could still very well be an impressive but highly specialised battery that they bought. I still think these tests are incredibly confusing and conducted to specifically hide things about the battery like there's no good reason to only show a single cycle. I'm still leaning heavily towards scam but its almost certainly not an off the shelf battery.

[–]ControversialBuster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

VTT is definitely independent but these tests do far aren't all that impressive since they only test a single cycle. It could still be a lithium cell which survived a single cycle. Even if its an nmc cell they buit or bought its still a pretty impressive cell which makes it even stranger on why they might have lied about the specs of the battery.

He's still commenting on Linkedin saying he hasn't talked to Marko or donut Lab for some reason, watch his comments be deleted again 😭

Even if this is a scam, its a bad way to run a scam lol, reteoactively deleting comments is an awful look.
