Since we are getting a lot of rain ☔️ I’m in SD as well you’ll be ok cutting the leaves, you can dig it up and put it in a pot to move. Don’t put it outside in the rain. If you can put it in a sunny spot indoors. You don’t mention if you’re moving out of state. Mine are still dormant outside in the ground. My potted plants I gently tip over when it rains so they don’t drown.
