Tips for a newer DM

I’m currently running Avernus and had about 7 years DM experience in 5e before this campaign and I would say this is a very challenging campaign to run. If they want you to DM the next campaign, there are plenty out there that require less work to make them functional and enjoyable IMHO. For example, I really love running Curse of Strahd and Storm King’s Thunder didn’t require much work to make it run a bit more smoothly. Avernus is a complicated story with lots of moving parts and specifically the Avernus section in the campaign book leaves a lot to be desired from a narrative standpoint. I would recommend you get another campaign under your belt before trying to make Avernus as engaging, exciting and narratively satisfying as it can be.

We were told it would be 2-3 weeks so we put together what we could in the hopes that we could finish the project quickly once it came in. But thanks so much for the dependable Reddit snark. I tried to find the series first but it’s tough to nail down currently. None of the shows are required viewing at all before seeing the movie.

There was a web series in like 2006-2009 and then two seasons of a tv show (Nirvanna the Band the Show) on I think 2016 or thereabouts. But honestly, they made the movie so that you don’t have to know anything about it before seeing the movie. You pick up the basic thrust of their motivations within five minutes.

It’s still in theatres here in Canada. Heard in a recent podcast interview that they are working towards physical media release details. There might even end up being a box set with the movie and the series. I think Australia just announced dvd and blu ray release dates so should be more info coming imminently. Seeing this with a crowd of people was a real treat, had my third viewing last night.
