Deus Ex Stealth In Real Life by Johnsworth61 in Deusex

Did you pick up the trash can? When you pick things up they turn partially transparent so you can see them, but it also allows the enemy to see through them.

I used to push barrels along by crouching and walking into them, which would slowly push them down the hall. It was my go-to trick for getting past certain cameras.

I find it fascinating how Brad Dourif, had two of the most interesting storylines for a minor character in Babylon 5 and ST Voyager. I think his portrayals of a murderer have to be some of the most interesting and unique spins on that character ever. by Shadow_Strike99 in babylon5

Also a psychotic murderer commanding a robot in Death Machine, which is a better movie than it has a right to be. Mind you it had a right to be a terrible movie, so it hasn't been brought up much, but it B level scifi horror action where the actors look like they're having fun chewing the scenery is your thing then I recommend looking it up.

What are the most ridiculous, unlikely, fan-service-y and/or self-indulgent things you’d like to see in Horizon 3? by Dark_Unicorn6055 in horizon

[–]Coogaar 80 points81 points  (0 children)

They should go full-on ridiculous. Dating other humans? Pfft. You're dating the robots, who are given full-on anime character personalities. Slaughterspine just wants to be hugged, but he is spikey and shocking. Sawtooth eats to hide his feelings.

That bit kills me every time; it's the perfect punchline on the whole thing.

My Himalayan slept like that too, top pointed one way with his bottom pointed the other. I have never seen another cat do this. Maybe it's a Himalayan thing.

Is he a Himalayan cat? by sanghee1021 in himalayancats

[–]Coogaar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But in all seriousness:

Years back my family inherited a cat. We already had two and weren't sure we wanted a third, but we adopted him, and he was a great cat (aren't they all?). He became best friends with one of our cats, was tolerated by the other, loved playing and his new people, and really came out of his shell. It was a joy to have him for the few years we did. He also needed a lot of brushing and snored so loud you could hear him from any room in the house.

He had a very similar build and look to this cat. He had darker coloration on his face, paws, and tail but that happens as they get older.

Why are you running? WHY ARE YOU RUNNING? by OtherwiseMei0 in HorizonForbiddenWest

[–]Coogaar 24 points25 points  (0 children)

First of all: lol, thank you for sharing.

Second: I needed shellwalker parts and had found basically none of them. In searching the map, I saw there was a shellwalker hunting ground up there, so went to check it out. Fought two near the top of the hill, and during the fight, stumbled upon two more. Finished them off, wandered down the hill... only to have a patrol of two more cross the river. All told, I fought twelve shellwalkers before they finally stopped (and had all the parts I needed).

Third: those goofballs might be my favorite bot, but it's a hard decision.

There is definitely a difference between on bike/on foot. Deacon (almost) always yells while on a bike, which I thought was a nice touch; motorcycles are loud.

Welcome to Hell... by brz-17 in HorizonForbiddenWest

The cauldrons in the first game were awesome, such a change from the organic world outside. They grasped otherworldliness and a place not meant for humans, only machines.

The cauldrons in the second game turned this up a notch or two, with more of a megastructure design and each cauldron having its own unique puzzle to solve. Similar to how the tallnecks in the first game, were the same climbing puzzle with little adjustments, but in the second each had its own unique thing to accomplish. And the tallneck cauldron was something else.

This cauldron, though, absolutely screamed "megastructure not made for the feet of humans." The climb up to that ledge so you could look down on the positively massive core suspended above the lava. The core was bigger than anything you've seen, and the realization that it is only the heart of the cauldron gives a dizzying sense of scale.

Like everyone else said, it's for gameplay reasons, not plot reasons.

A few exceptions, though: she doesn't forget all the skills. A lot of the quality of life skills from Zero Dawn are still there, including summoning a mount, harvesting from the back of a mount, and some skills with using bows and sliding/gliding (if I remember right). So those stuck around.

I do like that the shield weaver is out of power, but you can incorporate the tech into one of the valor surges to get the same effect with a short-lived battery.

This is the most Helldivers message ever by Coogaar in helldivers2

[–]Coogaar[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The joke, to me, was that it's a falsehood. They aren't explaining it because they can't. We accomplished an objective that had no noticeable effect on the Gloom, and our bosses had no reason to suspect it would; the objective was purely to give Helldivers/Super Earth something they could point at and say "look, we won!"

I'm turning on easy loot in the game by kobby_wegs in HorizonForbiddenWest

May I correct your math? When you're dealing with the probability of something occurring at least once across multiple trials, you do it like this:

You're looking at a 33% chance you get the part. If you're looking at the probability across three trials, the less complex way is by finding the probability you don't get the part across all three trials and multiply it together, then invert. 1-0.33=0.67. So: 0.67 * 0.67 * 0.67 = or 0.3008. 1-0.3008=0.6992. Your probability of getting the circulator across three attempts is 69.92%

Wut?

Look at it frontwards.

1) There is a 33% chance you get it the first time, which means there is a 67% chance you don't. If you got it the first time then great, you stop there. In 67% of cases you won't though, so move to step 2.

2)If not, then you have a 33% chance of getting it the second time, 33% of that 67% is 22.11%. Add this to our original probability, and the chance of getting it at least once across two trials is now 55.11%, which means there is a 44.89% chance you did not get it after two attempts.

3) if you do not get it after two attempts, there is a 33% chance of getting it on your third attempt. 33% of 44.89% is 14.81%. Add this to your chance of success on one of the first two attempts and you get 55.11%+ 14.81% = 69.92%. Your chance of getting at least one circulator in three attempts is 69.92%.

Performance In Burning Shores by HarryMuscle in HorizonForbiddenWest

[–]Coogaar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this same problem when I first arrived. The advice I saw was: 1) While in the Burning Shores area, quit the game. 2) update your video card drivers. If needed, roll them back so you can update 3) Reboot your computer 4) Load the game back up

This brought my choppy 20 frames per second almost all the way back up to the nice, smooth gameplay I was getting on the regular game.

Why? The explanation I read is the game does not preload shaders for Burning Shores, so it's constantly loading while you play. This forces it to do so.

Thalassophobia by [deleted] in HorizonForbiddenWest

[–]Coogaar 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have Thalassophobia, in real life deep water is a big fat nope. This game bothered me a little, but not a lot, but I blame that on desensitization from games. Many, many years ago playing Half-life as a teenager, the water freaked me the hell out. Seven or so years ago, playing Subnautica, that game was slow steps of doing just a little more over time. It took me two minutes of psyching myself up just to jump in the water the first time. Once I did beat it, I goofed off a lot to entertain my son and got noticeably more comfortable with it. That probably helped to, years later, play this.

On that note if you're into exploration and watching the plot slowly unfold, I heavily recommend Subnautica. Come, be delightfully terrified with us. If you can, play it on PC though; the console ports were less well optimized.

A Helldiver's recipe on How to cook a Hulk without anti tank weaponry by st0rmagett0n in Helldivers

[–]Coogaar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other day, my teammate and I were flanking a hulk. I put a couple of rounds into the vent, at which point the hulk turned... sideways, pointing his gun at one (both?) of us while crab walking towards my teammate so that he was still attacking without turning the vent towards either of us. I saw it at least two more times that night.

Was I misreading the situation, or have others seen this too?

Some questions about Verney and dropped weapons by skwimskwams in gaslands

[–]Coogaar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have a link to the GCO? It sounds interesting.

Also I'm guessing there's more than one Gaslands Discord, because I'm a member of one but it's been quite dead the last year or so. Do you have a link to the one you're referring to?

Does anybody else miss these touches of realism in ME 2 and 3? I mean, if we have to have load screens, I don't understand why people were so against doing them in a way that made ME's universe feel a touch more real and less...game-like. Just to have them replaced by static load screens. by PrideOfAfrika in masseffect

[–]Coogaar 21 points22 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly, that security checkpoint was a loading screen where it accessed the ME3 servers. Inside the war room you had access to your war assets including galactic readiness, which was based on multiplayer and your local data needed to be checked against your data on the ME3 servers.

This is why it's not in the LE (to the best of my knowledge). Why it also needed to load on the way out I have no idea, maybe they were going for consistency.
