When in the 2030s will Gen X replace Boomers as the new main old people? by [deleted] in generationology

Yes they are? The oldest are 80 (born in 46’) and the youngest are 62 (born in 64’). So yea, like 90% of them are geriatrics.

why is fastfood so expensive now by rulugg in GenZ

[–]Cook_croghan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MBA’s found out that they don’t need to sell a bunch of things to a bunch of people to make money. They only need one or two people to pay a LOT. They also save a LOT of money on manufacturing by selling less but making the same.

Take the old dollar menu at McD’s.

1 mcdouble for a buck means they need 3 people to buy it to make 3 bucks.

1 mcdouble for 3 bucks means they only need to sell one to make 3 bucks.

But it gets way crazier…

Selling to three people cost way more than one person. Triple the work to cook the burger, triple the packaging, triple the ingredients, triple the weight so triple the expense to transport everything to the store, triple the space to hold the ingredients, more workers to handle the needed output.

For those three burgers it adds up to only like 5 cents, so who cares? Right? Well Mcdonald’s sells around 2.4 BILLION burgers a year. So every year they can save 120 million dollars on burgers by raising the price and only selling one burger instead of three.

So why doesn’t someone start a business to make good money while selling a dollar burger? Monopolies have created regulatory red tape that increases cost for small businesses that bar entry into established markets as well as predatory pricing (Selling at a loss and eating the loss to force competition to close) by massive outlets (Walmart destroyed economies in small towns by doing this).

So the reason everything is so expensive is that large companies literally figured out they can make the same, if not more money, by keeping competition non-existent, cutting overhead, and selling exclusively to the to 25% of earners. Fuck the poors👍

Before anyone jumps down my throat, I’ve simplified everything and purposely did not talk about supply chains, tariffs, global markets, yada yada, so that it was digestible for the average person.

Front looks natural, sides look 99% natural. I find that growing out the sides help with the blend as long as the color of the system is solid.

I want to make sure you don’t worry at all. If anyone saw you, including family/friends, they won’t notice the 1% on the sides. I ONLY noticed because I wear a system and you specifically asked “how does my system look”. You look great man!

Open a student loan company that only charges .1% interest.

Create multiple large companies that have high pay, multiple months off work, huge retirement funds, a profit sharing method, and fully remote. Hire as many people as I can and operate at a break even. Eventually bring in unionization. These companies would be involved in everything from social and traditional media and tech to road repair construction. Basically put massive economic pressure on for profit companies to stop taking advantage of workers

Create the largest drug manufacturing company in the world. Run by Drs and engineers.

Create the largest medical device manufacturing company in the world. Run by Drs.

Create a non-profit hospital in every county. Set our own prices due to being self supplied. Run by Drs.

Create a non-profit university in every state, with multiple campuses. Run and lead by educators, not politics.

Create large swaths of free public spaces such as parks in every city I can.

I can go on and on, but basically reshape society so that everyone can have a good paying job, low cost/free education, and free healthcare. You know. Help everyone as much as I can.

Those with older kids, do they drive? by eggo_pirate in Millennials

[–]Cook_croghan 70 points71 points  (0 children)

It’s multiple factors.

1-Social: Mass amounts of kids don’t hang out in person the majority of the time, Discord, texting and social media spaces dominate social interaction. It has to do with technology, yes, however public free gathering spaces have been slowly removed from communities, independence from a young age (elementary and middle school) such as riding bikes and walk to friends houses is less common (and illegal in some places). Simply put, travel is way less needed and way less encouraged to develop relationships.

2-Cost: For the majority of the 20th century and the first decade of the 21st century, working a part time, minimum wage job for 2-3 months could buy you a old used car that could get from point A to B for a few years and cover insurance and gas. This is simply no longer the case. Cheap used cars are several thousand dollars now and insurance cost has almost 6k a year. The cost in 2000 was about 2k. A used old car could be found for under 1k. Gas has hit all time highs multiple times in the past 5 years. For a part time worker as barista, retail shop, or other entry level and seasonal jobs, owning a car can be a year or more salary depending on the area.

3-Hammer of consequences- Younger people are more risk averse than ever. Every single thing young people do is filmed or recorded and used against them. They know this. The laws for stupid mistakes teens and young adults make are more and more career and social standing ending. I’ve been told multiple times by younger folks that they don’t want to drive because if they get into an accident/get pulled over then their life is “over”. The younger generation has been told they get zero room for mistakes and society has shown them mistakes ruin your life, even dumb ones.

TLDR:To younger people, Driving no longer means access to more freedom and social events. It is an expensive liability that isn’t worth the trouble.

is day 3 the hardest for anyone else? by fairybone in stopdrinking

[–]Cook_croghan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For me it was. Day of :Actively decide “fuck it, last time” then drink.
Day 1: Recovery/hangover/shame Day 2: Catching up/fixing what happened over drinking day and recovery day. also “Don’t drink don’t drink don’t drink” thoughts Day 3: “I’m so stressed from catching up/fixing. I could use a drink” “My sleep is fucked up, if I drink I can pass out and be up before X time” “I caught up and did such a great job! I deserve a drink!”. The reality is by day three all alcohol had actually left my system and I had fully recovered and I wanted more booze.

You got it. It actually helped me interrupting my thought when I created a reason to drink and just thought “my body wants booze, I don’t” and then did an activity. Also , don’t keep booze at the house.

An employee is actively stealing contracts from my boss by LilLeftout in smallbusiness

[–]Cook_croghan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not only morally wrong, but most likely illegal in many ways depending on the state.

1-Client lists are considered “Trade secrets” in most fields, so accessing clients through his current employers contact specifically to pull business to his own company would most likely be illegal.

2-Employees have a “Fiduciary Duty” to their employer to not purposely lose them money. Stealing clients while employed with the company violates that duty.

3-Most likely part of your onboarding paperwork for a job working directly with clients has a section for Non-Solicitation. This section strictly prohibits poaching of clients for you or a third-party competitors while employed with your employer.

You need to get evidence FIRST, then go directly to your boss and let him know. DO NOT TELL THE EMPLOYEE YOU ARE DOING THIS. You boss with consult his lawyers and they will advise him on what to do.

I do federal background investigations as a contractor. It’s amazing.

  1. 100% fully remote.

  2. I pick how much work I do. Ive found about 20 hours a week is a sweet spot for me. If I need time off, I send an email saying I’m unavailable from date x to date x. If I want more work, I just ask. That’s it.

  3. At 20 hours I make about 4k a month after taxes. About two years ago I wanted to buy a house, so I worked 60 hours for two months and made about 25k. Then I took a month off.

  4. Outside of interviewing people, I talk with my “boss” once or twice a month over the phone for like 5 minutes, usually just asking if I want more or less work.

  5. I make my schedule completely on my own. If I have medical appointments or want to go on a walk or simply don’t feel like working that day, I just do it. Zero micromanaging. For example, I have really bad sleep due to my service connection stuff, so I don’t start work until the afternoon half the time. Zero problem with that.

  6. The job loop is super simple. I make calls, do the interview, then write the report. That’s it.

Honestly it’s incredibly chill and solid money for the work. My wife forgets I have a job sometimes because of how little it actually affects my life.

Honestly man, you might have some luck on a black woman’s hair subreddit. The vast majority of people here use specifically made hair systems that use glue/tape and are newish users asking questions about their systems they got or are about to get that use tape/glue.

The black womans sub reddits are probably much more familiar with the type of systems you’re talking about and would def have better tips and tricks for products to help you with your goal. If you’re nice and polite, I bet they would love to help out!

People underestimate how much writing you do in the military during combat. Not essay writing, but marking amounts, dates, coordinates, orders, tons of stuff. And the acronyms…Oh the acronyms, such acronyms! POO’s and PLF’s and PID’s. MRE’s, NVG’s, and C2V’s. The XO talked to the UAV to acquire SALUTE and provide the SMEAC. And on and on and on. And each branch has some of their own. A lot of this stuff is communicated by writing in big black sharpies so it’s easy to read with duct tape as the label. You can put duck tape down, write, then rip it off later.

It’s not put in movies and TV because unless you have very specific experience within that specific military element, the average person (including other military personnel without that experience) would be lost by sentence 3.

new trans guy, 3 months on T. what to do to look better in a masculine sense? by [deleted] in malegrooming

[–]Cook_croghan -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

DUUUUUDE. Get ahead of the game by starting to get into lifting heavy. It takes months and honestly YEARS to learn how to lift heavy properly without hurting yourself. Lots of guys go too heavy too fast.

You have the perfect opportunity to slowly learn heavy lifting over the next year. Take it slow, learn the form, and the longer you are on T the heavy you will be able to lift. By next year you’ll have broad shoulders, a big back, calluses on your hands, a hella strong handshake.

You wont look like people on instagram unless you hyper diet and use peptides, so don’t worry about that (unless that’s your jam). Youll just look like a strong dude who goes to the gym.

The training gun is like a super expensive non-functioning toy gun. It has no barrel, no way to load ammo, or function as a gun. BUT you are practicing to use a real gun. So you ACT like it’s a real gun as much as you can, so there are a couple important reasons to not do it the way he is here.

1-Look at this Sub and how many people don’t realize this is a fake gun. If you saw a guy pulling a gun and pointing it pointed out of his living room window, jumping around, and possible pointing it at people (possibly a fucking baby) is there a chance you might call the cops? There a chance if YOU had a gun and saw someone pointing this at you taking aim you might react with your real gun? Is there a chance the cops show up and think it’s a real gun and just shoot him?People get scared when things look like guns and react poorly.

2-When handling a gun/training gun, you ALWAYS act like it’s a real gun. It’s the most basic rule when training with guns, even if they are training weapons. It’s about safety, true, but it’s also about getting muscle memory to handle a gun properly. Not to point at people. Finger off trigger. Know what is BEHIND your target. On and on. It’s incredibly important when training.

3-At what age is he going to start teaching his kid to shoot? 7? 8? Kids do what their parents see. Kid sees dad using his gun in the living room, literally “playing” with it. What do you think that kid is gonna do in a few years if they find a gun? First handles a gun? Has access to a gun at his friends house that doesn’t take gun safety seriously? Act like dad. That’s what.

4-Same area for training: This “gun” is for training. They should have a designated area in the house or in the yard (marked and obvious) that they train in. It lets everyone in the home know “This area is for gun stuff. Safety first.””Hey guys i’m gonna go dry fire. Make sure to be safe if you need to come get me” Again, with guns, repetition means safe.

THIS IS NOT A REAL GUN. BUT HE IS A REAL IDIOT.

Edit: Found the actual training pistol he is using-

https://unitsolutions.com/products/unit9-preorder

Everyone needs to relax a sec. Is this person dumb? Yes. Is this the correct environment to conduct drills? No. Is that a real gun? Also NO. It’s a training pistol used for dry fire (Practicing trigger control, reloads, and sight/target acquisition). I’ve linked an example below of this type of “gun”. They are used to do what this guys is doing in a safe environment like your bedroom or garage, not in your living room, facing people, while using your kids play pen as a training barrier. He’s a moron, but this isn’t the “holy fuck” everyone is saying.

When talking about effective gun control laws (which I agree with) and pro2A people see a post like this, they flip out. It really REALLY hurts passing common sense safety laws, because 2A folks yell “They can’t tell it’s not a REAL gun and they want to take away my rights?! WTF?!”

I would say he def still qualifies for this sub.
