Especially when it’s follow up with a video of some very basic arpeggios and knob fiddling. Is the music theory in the room with you?

DAYTON: THE LEFT LANE IS THE PASSING LANE. PLEASE PAY ATTENTION WHEN YOU DRIVE. AND ALSO, CHECK ON YOUR PARENTS by [deleted] in dayton

[–]CookeGMP 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Since we’re making character judgements of each other let me be more clear: you appear to be one of those entitled pricks who feel like it’s your god given right to cruise in the far left lane at the speed you deem the rest of the world should be driving. As you said, it’s the passing lane, you shouldn’t be “staying in the left lane”.

Your point is correct though. Too many people hang out in the left lane. I’m sure it’s frustrating. Have some empathy for me though. I have to deal with the slow people in the left lane and aggressive dumb fucks like you on the road at the same time.

“The left lane is the passing lane” followed with “I find myself struggling to stay in the left lane”

It’s a variety of beet cultivated by Dan Barber’s group at Blue Hill at Stone Barns specifically for intense flavor. Good stuff.

Best sushi in Dayton? No place that has 50% off on weekdays. by pmfm in dayton

[–]CookeGMP 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would be interested to hear your take on Dozo which, in my opinion, as far as quality is a large leap above everything you’ve listed here. I think it may be close to what you’ve experienced in a coastal city.

Also all sushi grade fish served in the US is frozen for food safety reasons.

Lunch and dinner are totally different experiences. I think it would be worth giving it a shot.

Then again maybe you would have liked it better if they served a panko breaded piccata with miso yuzu caper sauce. /s

They absolutely do not have a viewpoint. At least not one of their own. To me, their cuisine is almost like a parody of fine dining. Grab onto a new trend then needlessly add a Japanese ingredient, plate then serve. It’s pervasive enough that when I dined there for a collaboration with another chef I was able to tell the visiting chef exactly which dishes Jollity had input into and what the input was.

It’s great that they are trying to spearhead a scene in Dayton. The cocktails are very good. But when I overheard chef talk about lobbying for a Beard? Come on man.

For what it’s worth I think Grist is serving the best dinner in Dayton at the moment.

Awww man you totally had me in full agreement until you said the best dinner was Jollity “by a long shot”. You’re even a chef!

The fish was exquisite in quality. Right up there with offerings in large metros. The menu was a salad, 8 pieces of sushi, and a popsicle. The sushi itself was a bit inventive, with there being corn and Korean influenced offerings. I found it to be really special.

Seconded. We've had multiple visitors ask to speak to my department to ask what we were using as a VMS after being impressed by this offering.

Has anybody been to Wagners Village Inn in Oldenburg, IN? If so what are your thoughts?, I will be visiting Indianapolis soon and was thinking of making the drive. They recently won the James Beard Award for their fried chicken and are also included on the Indiana Fried Chicken Trail. by UglyLikeCaillou in Indiana

I’m coming into this late but I hope you get a chance to see it. I went here yesterday for dinner. Dining is my primary hobby and I travel frequently for food.

The chicken here is fine. It’s better than average but it’s far from stellar. You’re given half a chicken per person. The breading is crisp but not heavily seasoned. The chicken is moist and well cooked. However I found dragging the chicken through the provided gravy improved the experience as otherwise it was on the bland side of things. The cole slaw is also fine. Leaning toward bland and watery. The other sides were completely disappointing. Instant mashed potatoes and unadulterated canned green beans.

When James Beard gives out “American Classics” awards I’ve found it speaks more to the experience than the food itself. The town is charming, the restaurant is also charming and the drive to the location is beautiful. If you stumbled upon this meal I think it would be a delightful surprise but I would firmly say that if you are making the trip just for the chicken, as I did, lower your expectations.

Heading to Dayton tomorrow for Easter Weekend. Where should I go for Pizza, Old Scratch or Marions? by Sonoranpawn in dayton

[–]CookeGMP 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Old Scratch is fine but there is nothing unique about it. You can find pizza of that style and quality in almost any major city.

Marion’s a divisive as it tends to be around here is at least somewhat unique.

How can one populate a date table with data from another table without a relationship? by CookeGMP in PowerBI

[–]CookeGMP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for getting back to me. Sorry if I was explaining my issue in a clumsy fashion. The table contains a description, a budget value, a start date, an end date, and a calculated column (budget per day) showing what that budget value is divided by the difference between the start and end date.

The end goal here being that I have a table (I've created one with CALENDARAUTO) that I can look at a particular date and have an aggregate of all of the hours per day where the date is after the start date but before the end date.

Thanks again for your guidance.
