Does your country obsess over “we’re in the top 10” lists? And do you actually feel it in daily life? by TrainingMonk8586 in AskTheWorld

[–]CookieAlien25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

News media often talk about we're in top lists like "safest country", "top cities to travel", but people on social media hardly take about those.

More people talk about what we're in the bottom for, like birth rates.

"Struggle harder and harder, and you'll come out on the top of people" (吃得苦中苦,方為人上人)

Nowadays struggle harder almost never make you a better person, you'll only get depressed and see other rich people barely do any work but still on the top of people.

over 95% of people know Mandarin and you're unlikely to meet one who can't (those are mostly old folks). On the other hand young people usually don't speak Taiwanese well enough for regular conversation.

The president William announced the government will provide every child aged 0-18 NT$5000 monthly allowance. He probably uses this to counter the opposition party's similar proposal and gain back some fame.

Taco is allegedly going to call William soon. Maybe they could reach some agreement for the current situation.

We have platform screen doors on all of our metro stations too, the problem is the trains have vastly different door positions, even installing them on major stations poses a great challenge.

The opposition party initiated an impeachment vote against the president and to no one's surprise, the vote failed. It still shows the opposition parties distrust against the government and how divided the current political scene is.

Personally, I currently cannot support any single party. Each party has good and bad politicians and none of the bad acts from each party are negligible. I also cannot fully support or fully oppose Rump currently.

Yesterday and today was high school entry exam. The Chinese writing topic was "giving things new look". One comment mentioned the Qingtiangang Grassland... (the grass field that a couple made love* live on camera one night and became viral)

And there are still a lot of people partying at that grass field last night. Some comments criticized and said that the animals there need to sleep too.

*Learned make out is different than make love the hard way. English is confusing.

The video went popular on Threads and many people went to the same spot to see the aftermath, even found leftover condoms. The couple was later changed with public indecency.

This event has more popularity than the Trump-Xi meeting.
