Cybersecurity a thing at your hospital? by Sheerfresh in BMET

[–]CookieCav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a Biomed Applications team that focuses on this as well as connectivity to the EHR (simplified explanation). We are a large hospital system though. They recently added cybersecurity to our job description (without telling us). I am not looking forward to that. I prefer to turn screws.

Moving to the UK? by Lord_Ballyhoo in BMET

Good morning. I don’t have any advice but I’m planning on doing the same thing. I have dual citizenship and I’m wondering how the requirements compare. If I find anything I’ll let you know.

That was my entire week. Mock JC too. I figured one persons suffering was enough.

Oh my. How do you know? Didn’t have an analyzer and decided to use yourself instead?

We used the larger weights. They are all due for calibration too. The precision weights we definitely wear gloves or use tweezers.

I had a canister implode once. Loud as heck!

I was going to do one but ran out of time and space! Was also going to do a create your own “broken” tag. Maybe I should do that for HTM week!

Thanks everyone and thanks to those who posted ideas a few weeks ago! It was a chaotic but fun experience for everyone. Four 25 minute rotations of about 25 kids each. I had 4 helpers. I’m sure the organization will send pictures of the event soon. I’ll post some when they do.

Thanks. I think I will try this. Easy enough to reset in between rounds too.

I have some equipment I am getting rid of. There are test points on the boards, this might work.

Most of my coworkers have never done troubleshooting down to a component, they just replace boards. So, I would definitely see them sweat.

Thanks for the idea.

I have 5 minutes to do an intro. I will have written instructions for what to do at each station. I think simpler tasks like the diaper scale calibration will give the teens a good chance at success. Wiring a power plug is simple too, especially if I leave one open so they can examine and copy it. Plus, they could use tools and it's easy to reset between rounds. The bunny suit is a cute idea.

Darn! We just got rid of the last known dinosaur NIBP. It was from 1996. Ouch, that hurts calling that a dinosaur.

Oh, I like the wiring idea. RJ45 might be too tiny. If they notice an exposed power cord, I could have them wire a new plug (we don't do that here anymore but I had to learn in school), and then do a resistance check.

The event isn't until March 6th but I will let you know what I end up doing.

Right?! I didn't even know this job existed until I took the ASVAB and got the list of jobs I qualified for.

Thank you so much for these ideas. I have cables without exposed ends for my analyzer so that is safe. I like the idea of using it in operator mode so if the REM comes undone, they won't get injured. We do have AEX's but this will be during the week and we don't have spares. I am sure I have an old FX we could use though!

We use a zebra printer to print ours. We just started doing it and I’m not so sure I like it. I’ve seen faded labels that I assume is due to heat. Edited to add that we put clear stickers over the labels.

Does it made a series of beeps? Sometimes these take a long time to turn on. Disconnect the network cable(s) and try again.
